Korean Air launches its new route to Zagreb, Croatia

Korean Air celebrated its inaugural flight from Seoul, South Korea to Zagreb, Croatia on September 1, marking the first regular service connecting Croatia and Far East Asia directly.

The airline’s maiden flight KE919 from Seoul, which took 11 hours and 40 minutes, was welcomed with a water cannon salute upon landing at Zagreb (Franjo Tuđman) International Airport on Saturday. An inaugural flight ceremony was held at Zagreb Airport, with government and industry officials, Mr. Park Won-sup, Korean Ambassador to Croatia, Mr. Damir Kušen, the newly appointed Croatian Ambassador to Korea, Ms. Olivera Šarić, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Ms. Martina Bienenfeld, director of Touristic Board of Zagreb, Mr. Jacques Feron, CEO of the Zagreb International Airport attended.

Korean Air commenced the three-times weekly nonstop service between Incheon and Zagreb, utilizing Airbus A330-200 aircraft. The flight departs Incheon, Seoul at 11:00, arriving in Zagreb at 15:45. It then departs Zagreb at 17:20, arriving back in Incheon at 11:30 the next day.

With the addition of the new route, Korean Air will operate international flights to 112 cities in 43 countries.

Korean Air is coming to Boston

Korean Air is launching new nonstop service between Boston and Seoul on April 12, 2019 in cooperation with joint venture partner, Delta Air Lines.

The new Boston flight, along with new Minneapolis/St. Paul-Seoul service that Delta is launching in 2019, are the first additions to the joint venture’s Seoul-Incheon network since the two carriers launched their partnership in May.

The Boston-Seoul service will be operated on Korean Air’s new 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft featuring six First Class sleeper suites, 18 Prestige business class sleeper suites, and 245 seats in economy class.

First Class features farm-to-flight meals with food grown at the airline’s own farm on Jeju Island, a 23-inch high-resolution monitor, luxurious duvet and bedding, in-flight comfort clothing by Gianfranco Ferre, and DAVI-branded amenity kits with five different luxury cosmetic products. First class customers also can enjoy the exclusive benefits of a dedicated check-in lounge and First Class lounge at Incheon Airport.

Korean Air’s Prestige Suites offer private 21-inch wide flatbed seats spaced 75 inches apart with direct aisle access. Onboard, Prestige customers enjoy Korean Air’s award-wining food and wine program and a premium DAVI amenity kit.

Meanwhile, Korean Air’s economy class is among the industry’s most comfortable, with 33-34 inches between seats, a 10.6-inch high-resolution personal monitor and a variety of meal options.

With the launch of Boston and Minneapolis/St. Paul, Korean Air and Delta will offer up to 29 flights a day between 14 gateways in the U.S. and Asia. From Korea alone, the joint venture partners will offer over 115 weekly flights to 13 U.S. destinations, an increase of over 10% from summer 2018. By combining both airlines’ schedules, customers have matchless travel options while enjoying improved reciprocal frequent flier benefits.

Delta, Korean Air to provide world-class cargo services with launch of JV partnership

Delta Air Lines Cargo and Korean Air Cargo are launching new cargo cooperation to offer world-class cargo services across one of the most comprehensive route networks in the trans-Pacific market. This comes after the recent implementation of the trans-Pacific Joint Venture partnership between the two airlines.

The joint venture routes, on which Delta and Korean Air carried 268 million tons of belly cargo in 2017, will allow customers to work with either carrier to transport shipments across a broad network of flights. The expansive combined network formed by this partnership gives Delta and Korean Air’s shared customers access to more than 290 destinations in the Americas and more than 80 in Asia.

The new joint venture builds on nearly two decades of close partnership between Korean Air and Delta; both were founding members of the SkyTeam global airline alliance.

Delta and Korean Air currently transport a diverse range of cargo products in the trans-Pacific market. From the U.S., semi-conductor production facilities, perishables and e-commerce shipments are some of the key products shipped to Seoul and throughout Asia. In the reverse direction mobile phones, automobile parts and other electronics are carried.

Earlier this year, Delta and Korean Air co-located into the new, state-of-the-art Terminal 2 at Seoul’s Incheon International Airport. This means substantially reduced connecting times for both passengers and cargo, and one-roof warehousing is planned for the airport as well. As one of the world’s largest airports, Incheon has among the fastest connection times in the region. It has been named among the best airports in the world for more than a decade by Airports Council International, as well as the world’s cleanest airport and the world’s best international transit airport by Skytrax.

We anticipate that Seoul Incheon will continue to grow as a major Asia gateway for Delta and Korean Air. From Seoul, Delta is the only U.S. carrier to offer nonstop service to three major U.S. gateways, including Seattle, Detroit and Atlanta, with service to Minneapolis launching in 2019. Korean Air provides the largest trans-Pacific air freight capacity.

Delta and Korean Air enhance codeshare flights in the U.S.

Delta Air Lines and Korean Air are expanding codeshare flights, following the launch of a joint venture partnership May 1 that gives customers world-class travel benefits across one of the most comprehensive route networks in the trans-Pacific market.

A total of 132 Delta-operated flights from Seattle, Atlanta, Las Vegas, New York, San Francisco, Honolulu, Chicago and Dallas have been recently coded with Korean Air’s flight number. These new codeshares complement 164 existing Korean Air codeshare markets on Delta in the Americas from Delta’s hubs in Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York-JFK. An additional 66 markets from Detroit, Portland, Seattle and Atlanta will become codeshares in North America next week. In addition, Korean Air’s code will be added to five Delta-operated flights from Japan to Atlanta, Detroit, Seattle and Portland, beginning June 6.

The enhanced codeshare flights in the Americas will further strengthen the existing 36 codeshare routes within Asia.

Earlier this year, Delta and Korean Air co-located at the new, state-of-the-art Terminal 2 of Seoul’s Incheon International Airport, substantially reducing connection times for customers. Since April, Delta and Korean Air have been codesharing on each other’s Seattle–Incheon flights, significantly increasing customer choice and connectivity. Both airlines have also improved their loyalty programs’ reciprocal benefits, including the ability to earn more miles on both loyalty programs and redeem them on the increased codeshare flights.

Delta and Korean Air continue to work closely to implement full reciprocal codesharing on each other’s networks to the extent allowed and provide the best travel experience for customers between the U.S. and Asia.

Delta is investing in the Asia-Pacific region where it has seen a steady increase in customer satisfaction as more Asia-based customers choose to fly Delta. Some of the investments include expanding its Asia-Pacific network, developing strong partnerships with important Asian carriers like Korean Air, operating Delta’s first Airbus A350s into Asian markets featuring the all-new Delta One suite product enhancement and Delta Premium Select cabin, upgrading complimentary economy cabin amenities and more.

Delta Air Lines and Korean Air will launch a new joint venture partnership that will offer customers world-class travel benefits across one of the most comprehensive route networks in the trans-Pacific market.

The joint venture has now been approved by regulatory authorities in the U.S. and Korea, including the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The expansive combined network formed by this partnership gives Delta and Korean Air’s shared customers seamless access to more than 290 destinations in the Americas and more than 80 in Asia.

The airlines will work closely together to bring customers the full benefits of the partnership, including joint growth in the trans-Pacific market, optimized schedules, a more seamless customer experience, improved loyalty program benefits, integrated IT systems, joint sales and marketing activities, and co-location at key hubs.

Beginning soon, Delta and Korean Air will:

Implement full reciprocal codesharing on each other’s networks and work together to provide the best travel experience for customers between U.S. and Asia
Offer improved reciprocal loyalty program benefits, including providing customers of both airlines the ability to earn more miles on Korean Air’s SKYPASS program and Delta’s SkyMiles program
Begin implementing joint sales and marketing initiatives
Increase belly cargo cooperation across the trans-Pacific

Korean Air announces its summer schedule

Korean Air has announced changes to its flight schedule in time for the 2018 summer season, commencing March 25. The changes include increasing service frequency on key long-haul routes between Korean Air’s hub at Incheon International Airport, Seoul and Europe and America.

A significant change in Korean Air’s schedule is the increase in flight frequency to provide passengers flying to North America with a wider range of choice.

As of March 25 flights between Incheon and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas will increase from four times a week to five times a week (Mon/Wed/Thu/Sat/Sun).

The Incheon-Toronto flight will increase on March 25 from five times a week to a daily flight and the Incheon-Seattle/Tacoma flight will also have the same increase to daily flights as from May 1.

In addition, Korean Air will boost the frequency of some European routes; the Incheon-Rome service will go daily and the Incheon-Prague flight will increase to four times a week (Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat). The Incheon to Madrid service will be operated four days a week (Tue/Thu/Sat/Sun) and the flights between Incheon and Istanbul will also be increased to four times a week (Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun).

Meanwhile, from April 19 Korean Air will resume operating its direct flight to St. Petersburg and from April 23 to Irkutsk. These Russian routes do not operate in the winter season due to low demand.

Korean Air will deploy recently introduced aircraft, such as Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental, on the main American and European long-haul routes, where the demand is expected to grow during the summer vacation season.

The official summer schedule for 2018 will run from March 25 until October 27.

Korean Air becomes the third operator of the Bombardier CS300

Bombardier Commercial Aircraft on December 22, 2017 celebrated the delivery of a first CS300 (HL8092, msn 55018) aircraft to Seoul-based Korean Air Lines Co., Ltd., the Asian launch customer for the C Series aircraft family.

Executives from Korean Air and Bombardier and several hundred shop floor employees who build the C Series aircraft attended the delivery ceremony at the C Series production facility at Mirabel, Quebec.

The CS300 aircraft will allow Korean Air to allocate its larger single-aisle jets and wide body aircraft to routes requiring their capacity and “right size” the Bombardier jet to lower-density regional routes. Korean Air may later take advantage of the CS300 aircraft’s range and expand internationally.

Korean Air Lines is expected to take delivery of their second CS300 before year-end – another 127seat dual-class configuration with Premium Economy and Economy seating.

Korean Air’s firm order for 10 CS300 aircraft, with options for 10 and purchase rights for an additional 10 was announced on July 29, 2011, following the Letter of Intent announced a month previously at the International Le Bourget Paris Air Show.

Delta, Korean Air joint venture is approved by the U.S. DOT

Delta Air Lines and Korean Air took a significant step in the creation of their trans-Pacific joint venture with approval of the joint venture by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The DOT approval reflects the consumer benefits that will be created by the new joint venture. The two carriers will deepen their relationship, offering customers in the U.S. and Asia an enhanced and expanded flight network as well as more compelling travel options. The airlines have also applied for approval for the joint venture from the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The joint venture will create a combined network serving more than 290 destinations in the Americas and more than 80 in Asia, providing customers of both airlines with more travel choices than ever before. The joint venture will provide both airlines with the expanded scale and scope to offer new alternatives to customers. The two airlines will also expand codeshare flights on trans-Pacific routes. Customers will benefit from enhanced frequent flyer benefits, providing customers of both airlines the ability to earn and redeem miles on Delta’s SkyMiles and Korean Air’s SKYPASS program. In addition, co-location at key airports including Incheon Terminal 2 which will provide customers with a seamless connection and baggage transit experience. Under the agreement, the airlines will share costs and revenues on flights within the scope of the joint venture as they work to expand service options for travelers.

In anticipation of the joint venture, Delta launched new nonstop service between Atlanta and Seoul earlier this year. This flight complements Korean Air’s existing service and provides customers in the U.S. with greater access to destinations across Asia. Korean Air operates to 10 gateways in the U.S. while Delta has three gateways from Seoul along with nonstop service to six other gateways in Asia. The new joint venture provides U.S. travelers with more options when flying to Asia.

Delta has a 25-year track record of partnering closely with airlines around the globe, beginning with the first successful trans-Atlantic partnership, when Northwest and KLM launched their joint venture in 1993. Today, Delta has seven partnerships with leading carriers in the biggest aviation markets in the world that are either joint ventures, equity investments, or both – spanning Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia. Through these deep relationships and immunized joint ventures, Delta has successfully achieved many of the benefits of cross-border cooperation for our customers.

Delta and Korean Air to expand partnership

Delta Air Lines and Korean Air have reached an agreement to deepen their historic partnership, with an expanded trans-Pacific network that will increase travel choices and boost competition between the U.S. and Asia.

The airlines signed a memorandum of understanding to implement a joint venture arrangement, which will offer customers access to the most comprehensive route network, industry-leading airline products, world-class airport facilities and a seamless customer experience.

Highlights of the agreement, subject to regulatory approvals, include:

The intent to create a fully integrated trans-Pacific joint venture arrangement, with both airlines sharing the costs and revenues on flights and coordinating schedules for seamless, convenient connections.

A combined network, serving more than 290 destinations in the Americas and more than 80 in Asia, providing customers of both airlines with more travel choices than ever before.

Enhanced frequent flyer benefits, providing customers of both airlines the ability to earn and redeem miles on Delta’s Sky Miles and Korean Air’s SKYPASS programs.

Upon the signing of the final joint venture arrangement, Delta and Korean Air will work together to implement all aspects of the enhanced co-operation including expanded codesharing, frequent flyer programs and joint growth in the trans-Pacific market, with co-location at key hubs with seamless passenger and baggage transit experience.

Delta will be launching new nonstop service between Atlanta and Seoul in June 2017, a flight that complements Korean Air’s existing service, providing customers in the U.S. with greater access to destinations across Asia.

At the same time Korean Air will continue to expand its U.S. – Korea network in summer 2017 with the introduction of a third roundtrip between Los Angeles and Seoul, as well as a second flight between San Francisco and Seoul.

Korean Air:

Boeing delivers the first 787-9 Dreamliner to Korean Air

Boeing and Korean Air on February 22, 2017 celebrated the delivery of the airline’s first 787-9 Dreamliner. The Seoul-based carrier will be the first Korean carrier to operate the 787-9 Dreamliner in the country. The airline is scheduled to launch domestic flights to Jeju from Seoul (Gimpo) for a month as part of the required certification period, before launching long-haul international routes to Toronto, Madrid, and Zurich later this year.

Korean Air is scheduled to introduce five 787-9 Dreamliners to its fleet this year with another five joining the fleet by 2019.
