JetBlue logo

After successfully launching the first Havana-bound flight on a major airline from New York since travel restrictions were eased this year, JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU) and Cuba Travel Services (CTS) today announced the addition of a second JetBlue charter flight connecting the two cities with nonstop service. The expansion of the JetBlue-CTS schedule comes shortly after the U.S. further eased restrictions by allowing approved travelers to Cuba to travel with close relatives.

The roundtrip charter flight between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Havana’s Josรฉ Martรญ International Airport (HAV) will operate every Tuesday beginning December 1, 2015. The existing JetBlue-CTS flight operates every Friday, giving New York customers more flexibility in their travel plans.

JetBlue has doubled its number of charter flights to Cuba since travel restrictions have eased, and is the only major airline operating charter flights from New York.

Through its charter partners, JetBlue flies to Havana and Santa Clara from New York, Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood, and Tampa. All flights are operated on 150-seat Airbus A320 aircraft with JetBlue crewmembers and the same JetBlue experience as scheduled service, including free Fly-Fi broadband internet, the most inflight entertainment, free snacks and soft drinks, and the most legroom in coach (a).

When scheduled service is allowed, Cuba will play an important role in JetBlue’s network in the Latin America and the Caribbean, where it has quickly become a leading airline with its friendly service and competitive fares. The airline has built valuable experience operating in Cuba since 2011 with its charter program, and has plans for service from multiple cities ready to go.

Delta and New York City enter into a co-branding campaign

Delta I Love NY logo (LRW)

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) is building on its relationship with New York City with a co-branding campaign with the city. The airline issued this statement:

Delta logo

I LOVE NY is one of the worldโ€™s most recognizable logos. Designed in 1977, itโ€™s been used to promote tourism in New York for nearly 40 years. And beginning this week, Delta will spotlight its leadership as New Yorkโ€™s No. 1 airline by tapping into the iconic logoโ€™s strength and launching a co-branded partnership with Empire State Developmentโ€™s Division of Tourism.

The new co-branded logo (above) was unveiled outside the New York Stock Exchange yesterday, where Delta rang the closing bell. In an interactive activation at the exchange, Delta will showcase its own New York partners, network and presence alongside New Yorkโ€™s Upstate tourism initiatives.

Delta will leverage the co-branded logo in a statewide, multi-faceted advertising campaign launching this week with a takeover at Grand Central Terminal, featuring ads that communicate the airlineโ€™s commitment to New York through its sponsorships of iconic cultural landmarks and destinations, partnerships with the sports teams New Yorkers love, industry-leading network and product offerings, and ongoing commitment to continually improving travel in and out of New York.

Delta certainly loves New York. The airline offers more than 500 peak-day departures to more than 130 destinations worldwide from its hubs at New Yorkโ€™s LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport โ€“ including service to more destinations from New York state than any other airline as well as nonstop service to five continents.

Over the past six years, Delta has invested more than $2 billion in New York Cityโ€™s airports, leading the way in improving the traveler experience by bringing state-of-the-art technology, award-winning chefs and exceptional customer service to a growing number of New York passengers โ€“ more than 24 million in 2014.

Delta is deeply embedded in the New York community, acting as the official airline of the Yankees, Mets, Knicks, Rangers, Madison Square Garden, Food Bank for New York City and the Whitney Museum, among many others.

In addition to the Grand Central takeover, the campaign will reach New Yorkers through street-level placements, airport assets, radio, digital marketing and social media. The campaign will promote borough-specific partnerships in each of New York Cityโ€™s five boroughs before moving upstate to Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse. Travelers from near and far will also experience the campaign, including at several New York airports with the co-branding at varying customer touch points, such as jetways and flight information screens, and on board through promotion in the annual New York edition of the Deltaโ€™s Sky magazine, available on all flights.

American Airlines is pleased to welcome fellow oneworld alliance member and Pacific Joint Business partner Japan Airlines (JAL) to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) with its return to service between Tokyo Narita (NRT) and DFW starting November 30, 2015. American will add its code to the route.

JAL will offer customers service four days per week with Boeing 787-8 aircraft fitted with the airline’s latest cabin interiors and seats in a three-class configuration and is considering scheduling daily service for spring 2016.

“On behalf of American’s 100,000 employees, we welcome our joint business partner, Japan Airlines, to our great hub in Dallas/Fort Worth,” said Andrew Nocella, American’s chief marketing officer. “American is making great strides to expand our presence in Asia, and this partnership represents a key component of that effort. This new service complements American’s existing service and brings more choice for our customers traveling between Asia and the U.S., providing more opportunities to connect Asia to South America. Japan Airlines is an honorable partner and a great friend to American.”

“We are pleased to announce the return of Dallas/Fort Worth to our international network, which becomes our eighth gateway in North America and our fourth U.S. service launch in just over three years,” said Yoshiharu Ueki, President of Japan Airlines. “By making full use of the efficiencies of the Dreamliner as well as capitalizing on our even stronger relationship with American Airlines, we are confident this resumed service will provide even more valuable links for commercial and cultural exchanges for our customers in both regions and beyond.”

“We are honored to welcome back Japan Airlines to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and are excited about the outstanding connectivity and customer service they will provide to passengers flying to Japan and throughout Asia,” said Sean Donohue, chief executive officer of DFW Airport. “With the addition of this new flight to Tokyo, coupled with partner American Airlines’ two daily flights, DFW Airport will further support our mission to connect the world to Dallas Fort Worth.”

American and JAL commenced their Pacific Joint Business partnership in April 2011, and have since greatly expanded customer benefits including better flight schedules, expanded codesharing, more coordinated services and greater access to a wider variety of fares.

JAL will offer a special bonus mile campaign for JAL Mileage Bank loyalty program members. For details, refer to the JAL website.
