American Airlines to consolidate operations at New York’s LaGuardia Airport

American Airlines customers will enjoy an improved experience at New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) starting December 9, 2017 when the carrier consolidates its operations to one terminal.

Upon the move, all American flights from LGA will be located in Terminal B. Since December 2013, flights have been split between Terminals B and C. This consolidated operation means all customers will check in at Terminal B and American will operate flights from each of the terminal’s four concourses.”

To ensure smooth travels for passengers, American’s customer assistance representatives will be stationed throughout Terminal B to guide customers and answer questions.

The terminal move at LGA is just another example of the customer experience improvements American is bringing to hubs across its network. Earlier this week, Philadelphia International Airport’s Terminal B debuted new food and dining options. Additionally, American is in the process of building five new gates at its Chicago O’Hare hub and is investing more than $1.6 billion to improve the experience at Los Angeles International Airport.

American operates more than 170 daily flights to 41 destinations in the United States and Canada from LGA. In addition, the American Airlines Shuttle offers business travelers frequent and convenient access between LGA and Boston (BOS) and Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA) with dedicated check-in areas, departure gates and baggage carousels at each airport.

With nearly 6,000 team members who live and work in New York, American proudly supports a variety of community and civic programs important to the city, including City Year New York, PENCIL and The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

JetBlue to move to the Marine Air Terminal at LaGuardia

JetBlue Airways, New York’s Hometown Airline^®, on October 20, 2017 announced it has reached an agreement with multiple parties to move its operations at New York’s LaGuardia Airport to the historic Marine Air Terminal, bringing JetBlue customers greater convenience and an improved ground experience while the Central Terminal undergoes reconstruction.

JetBlue will be the main tenant at the Marine Air Terminal, an aviation landmark, occupying four gates once the transition is completed in December – just in time for the start of the busy holiday travel season. This move will alleviate traffic and congestion as construction on the Central Terminal gets underway. JetBlue plans to move back to the Central Terminal when construction is completed.

While honoring the historic design of the Marine Air Terminal, JetBlue will add its own modern touches creating an airport experience in line with the award-winning service its customers receive onboard. With the needs of both business and leisure travelers in mind, including customers traveling on JetBlue’s popular Boston-LaGuardia route, customers can:

Avoid the congestion of the Central Terminal area
Request pick-up and drop-off points right at the Marine Air Terminal curb
Secure taxis with shorter lines and less congestion
Park conveniently next to the terminal
Access multiple city bus services

Once the move is completed, JetBlue customers arriving at the Marine Air Terminal, the airport’s closest terminal to Manhattan, will be welcomed by hospitality-trained crewmembers in an open concept, self-service focused lobby, designed to provide personal, helpful and simple touches.

The Art Deco Marine Air Terminal is one of aviation’s most historic landmarks. When it opened in 1940, it housed operations for seaplane service with aircraft departing from the East River. Over the years it has also served as a private jet terminal.

Delta to serve Havana, Cuba, from New York-JFK, Atlanta and Miami

Delta Air Lines will begin serving Havana, Cuba, this fall from New York-JFK, Atlanta and Miami as a result of today’s announcement by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Delta applauds and thanks the DOT for awarding the airline the ability to resume operating daily, nonstop scheduled service to the Caribbean island for the first time in almost 55 years.

All routes are subject to Cuban regulatory approval. Delta will begin selling seats to Havana this summer.

Delta inherited passenger service to Havana, Cuba, from its merger with Chicago and Southern Air Lines (C&S) on May 1, 1953, offering nonstop flights from New Orleans. Political instability and profitability issues ultimately led Delta to suspend service on December 1, 1961.

From 2002-2004 Delta operated charters between New York-JFK and Havana. In October 2011, Delta began operating up to a dozen charter flights to Havana per week with daily service from Miami and weekly service from Atlanta and New York-JFK. It operated almost 500 trips before suspending service on December 29, 2012. Most recently, in 2015, Delta performed three ad hoc charter flights including one that carried the Minnesota Orchestra back to Cuba for its first performance on the island in more than 85 years.

KLM celebrates 70 years of flying to New York

Exactly 70 years ago today. May 21, 2016, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines became the first European airline to initiate scheduled service between Amsterdam and New York.

On May 21, 1946, KLM operated its first flight with a Douglas DC-4 to what is now John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York (JFK). After the Second World War, KLM was the first European airline to initiate service between Europe and America.

To mark this auspicious occasion, passengers flying from Amsterdam to New York (KL641) will on May 21, 2016 will be served the recently introduced BOLS cocktail “The Flying Dutchman”. The cocktails will be shaken live on board by BOLS cocktail shakers.

Additionally, all passengers will receive the booklet “Boterballentijd”, specially written for KLM by Ronald Giphart. The book gives a fictional account of the inaugural flight.

New York

In 1946, KLM started with a daily flight to New York. In cooperation with our partner Delta Air Lines, KLM now operates four flights a day between Amsterdam and John F. Kennedy Airport. On this route, KLM and Delta Air Lines each operate two flights a day. In addition, Delta operates daily service between Amsterdam and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Each year, KLM brings around 400,000 passengers to “New Amsterdam”, making it KLM’s top North-Atlantic destination. Together, KLM and Delta bring more than 750,000 passengers each year between Amsterdam and New York.

Air France to restore two long-range routes next summer

Air France (Paris) will be enhancing its flight schedule for summer 2016 with two additional routes. Starting in June 2016, Air France will begin service from New York (JFK) to Paris-Orly, in addition to the four daily frequencies to Paris Charles de Gaulle.

Beginning in April 2016, Air France will operate three weekly flights from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport.

The daily New York-JFK to Paris-Orly service will be operated by Boeing 777-200 aircraft, equipped with 309 seats – 35 in Business, 24 in Premium Economy and 250 in Economy.

This route is part of the transatlantic joint venture with Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) and offers customers the possibility of arriving at Paris’ second busiest airport. It also enables passengers to easily connect with Air France’s domestic network on arrival at Paris-Orly.

AF37: Leaves New York-JFK at 18:05, arrives at Paris-Orly at 7:05 the following day;
AF32: Leaves Paris-Orly at 11:00, arrives at New York-JFK at 13:10.

Air France is supporting the resumption of commercial exchange with Iran and will serve Tehran from Paris-Charles de Gaulle three times a week (on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday) starting in April 2016.

Background of the New York – Paris Route

The route was launched on July 1, 1946, by Douglas DC-4. The flight lasted 23 hours 45 minutes and carried 33 passengers on board.

In 1960, Air France served New York from Paris-Orly by Boeing 707 in 8 hours 15 minutes.

In 1970, JFK airport welcomed Air France’s Boeing 747-100, then the Concorde (1977), a romance that lasted more than 25 years. In 2009, New York was the first to welcome the Airbus A380.

Background of the Paris – Tehran Route

On April 29, 1946, Air France launched a scheduled route Paris – Marseille – Tunis – Benghazi – Cairo – Beirut – Baghdad – Tehran, with a flight every two weeks.

The nonstop Paris-Tehran route was suspended in October 2008.

Norwegian launches its U.S. flights to Martinique and Guadeloupe

Norwegian Air Shuttle’s (Norwegian.com) (Oslo) inaugural flight from Boston to the French Caribbean island of Martinique will take off today, while the first flights from New York and Baltimore/Washington to Martinique and Guadeloupe also departing this week.

Norwegian will be the only airline to offer free WiFi and live TV service between the U.S. and Caribbean using its Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which already operate on 29 routes from the UK to Europe.

In other news, Norwegian retired its last Boeing 737-300 Classic in November.

JetBlue adds more Cuban charters from New York

JetBlue Airways (New York) and Cuba Travel Services (CTS) today announced the start of their second weekly roundtrip charter flights between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and José Martí International Airport (HAV) in Havana. The added flights will operate on Tuesdays and become JetBlue’s sixth weekly roundtrip charter route between the U.S. and Cuba. In July, JetBlue became the first major airline to fly to Cuba from New York when it launched weekly flights on Fridays.

Since government restrictions were eased earlier this year, JetBlue has doubled its number of charter flights to Cuba and has positioned itself as a leading airline to the island nation with its award-winning service. Once scheduled service is allowed, Cuba will play an important role in JetBlue’s growing network in Latin America and the Caribbean.

JetBlue first began operating charters to Cuba in 2011 and now flies to Havana and Santa Clara from New York (JFK), Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood, and Tampa. All flights are operated on 150-seat Airbus A320 aircraft with JetBlue crew members.

In other news, JetBlue also announced that it has joined the White House’s American Business Act on Climate Pledge, which includes more than 154 companies from across the American economy demonstrating an ongoing commitment to climate action and voicing support for a strong outcome to the Conference of Parties 21 (COP21) Paris climate negotiations.

JetBlue Airways (New York) and Amazon (Seattle) today announced that unlimited streaming entertainment on Amazon Video is available beginning this week on over 150 JetBlue aircraft equipped with free Fly-Fi broadband Internet, just in time to entertain travelers during the holiday travel season.

Amazon Prime members can sign-in or sign-up to instantly access tens of thousands of movies and TV episodes, including Amazon Originals such as the critically-acclaimed new series The Man in the High Castle, the multi Emmy and Golden Globe-winning series, Transparent, and the Emmy award-winning kid’s series Tumble Leaf, at no additional cost to their membership. In addition, all JetBlue customers can rent or purchase titles in the Amazon Video store, including new release movies and day-after TV programming.

As part of the multiyear year agreement, Amazon on JetBlue has been integrated into The Hub, JetBlue’s entertainment portal that customers access on their personal devices. Amazon on JetBlue offers a high-quality and reliable streaming experience for customers choosing from thousands of titles 35,000 feet in the air.

The collaboration will involve a broad array of benefits for customers, including activities in JetBlue’s flagship Terminal 5 at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. In 2016, TrueBlue loyalty program members will be able to earn TrueBlue points for their purchases in more than 40 categories on Amazon while inflight or on the ground through other JetBlue marketing channels.

Customers will also be able to watch Amazon Originals such as the just-launched series The Man in the High Castle as well as the second season of the Emmy and Golden Globe winning series Transparent which airs on December 11, among others, on JetBlue’s seatback televisions.

JetBlue Airways (New York) yesterday (November 5) launched service to its newest destination, Antigua and Barbuda’s V.C. Bird International Airport (ANU), from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), with three times weekly service on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Antigua and Barbuda becomes JetBlue’s 92nd destination in its growing network and 34th destination in Latin America and Caribbean, where JetBlue has quickly become a leading airline from the U.S.
