Azul to fly to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Orlando and New York JFK

Azul Linhas Aereas Brasileiras (Sao Paulo-Campinas) has announced the first three routes it will fly its new Airbus A330-200s to the United States.

Azul plans to start the Campinas (Viracopos) to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood (FLL) and also to Orlando (MCO) in December 2014 and a route to New York (JFK) in July of next year according to Panrotas.

Azul was founded by David Neeleman, who also founded JetBlue Airways.ย Today, with almost 18% of the domestic market share, Azul has established itself as the third largest airline in Brazil.ย  Together, Azul and TRIP have at their disposal 121 aircraft and operate over 840 daily flights to 100 destinations.

Norwegian brings the first Boeing 787 to Orlando

Norwegian 787 arrives in MCO (OIA)(LRW)

Norwegian Air Shuttle (Norwegian Long Haul) (Norwegian.com) (Oslo) landed the first scheduled Boeing 787 Dreamliner service at Orlando International Airport (MCO) on Thursday night (May 29). The maiden flight from Oslo, Norway to Orlando was the first Boeing 787 to land at MCO. The full flight was greeted with a traditional water salute by the airport rescue fire fighters (ARFF).

Norwegian Air will offer nonstop service between Orlando and Oslo two-days-a-week, Thursdays and Saturdays, with connections to over 94 locations in Europe and Thailand.

Thomas Cook Airlines to operate long-haul flights from London’s Stansted Airport

Thomas Cook Airlines (UK) (Manchester) has announced that for the summer schedule of 2015, it will operate long-haul flights from London’s Stansted Airport to Orlando, Cancun and Las Vegas, becoming the only airline to offer a long haul program from the airport.

Last year, Thomas Cook Airlines announced that from this June it will operate two aircraft from Stansted ย Airport โ€“ using the larger Airbus A321 aircraft replacing the existing Airbus A320 โ€“ bringing an increased amount of flights and holidays which are now on sale for holidaymakers from the East and South East of England to a range of new destinations.

With the long-haul flights on a larger Airbus A330, the additional flights in 2015 will begin on the weekend of Friday, July 17, 2015 with two flights a week to Orlando and one per week to both Cancun and Las Vegas โ€“ and continue up until August 17, 2015.

In other news, the airline alsoย announced that for the summer of 2015, it will operate a weekly flight to Las Vegas from Glasgow Airport following a series of one-off flights to the U.S. in recent summers. Operating each Monday with the Airbus A330 fleet, the new flights in 2015 will begin on Monday 4 May 4, 2015 and continue until October 31, 2015.

Previously the airline announced new Airbus A330 routes from Manchester to both New York (JFK) and Miami.

JetBlue to launch Salt Lake City-Orlando flights on November 12

JetBlue Airways (New York) today announced plans to launch a new daily nonstop route between Salt Lake City and Orlando, Florida beginning on November 12, 2014.The Utah capital will be JetBlue’s 24th nonstop destination from its focus city at Orlando International Airport.

JetBlue also offers daily nonstop service between Salt Lake City and both New York City and Long Beach, California.

Delta Air Lines to add nonstop Orlando-Las Vegas flights on March 2

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) on March 2, 2014 will launch a new nonstop route from Orlando to Las Vegas with Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The route will be operated three days a week per Airline Route.

Delta is also starting Raleigh/Durham-Las Vegas service on March 2, 2014. Both are traditional Southwest Airlines routes.

WestJet arrives in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

WestJet (Calgary) yesterday (May 2) launched new twice-weekly nonstop service between Toronto (Pearson) and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The first flight left Toronto’s Pearson International Airport at 9:30 a.m. EDT.

Details of WestJet’s new nonstop twice-weekly service (Thursdays and Sundays) between Toronto and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, are as follows:

Further service expansion began April 29, when WestJet launched new nonstop daily service between Calgary and Dallas-Fort Worth, offering more connectivity than ever to the United States through WestJet’s code-share agreement with American Airlines. Within Canada, WestJet is also increasing the number of flights between Toronto and Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon and Regina, and will introduce new nonstop service between Toronto and Fort McMurray. The airline will also increase to two flights daily from one between Calgary and Los Angeles, and to 11 from seven flights weekly between Toronto and Orlando.

Internationally, WestJet will extend service to Aruba; Liberia, Costa Rica; and Trinidad and Tobago on a year-round basis. The airline will also add one extra flight each week between Toronto and Kingston and Montego Bay, Jamaica; Varadero, Cuba; St. Maarten; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; and Cancun, Mexico.

US Airways retires the last Boeing 737-300 after 28 years

US Airways (Phoenix) quietly retired its last Boeing 737-300 on November 26 from revenue service. Aircraft 737-3B7 N530AU (msn 24412) operated flight US 1611 from Raleigh/Durham to the Charlotte hub ending 28 years of faithful service for the type with the company per Airliners.net. USAir was the launch customer of the 737-300 and received its first copy (N353AU, later registered as N374US) on November 28, 1984. N530AU was delivered new on June 26, 1989. N530AU was immediately ferried to Miami. US Airways still operates the Boeing 737-400.

Southwest Airlines currently still operates the Boeing 737-300 and is now likely to be the longest operator of the type when retired.

American inaugurates Los Angeles-Washington Reagan National flights

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) yesterday launched new daily nonstop service between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Stars of the CBS television show “NCIS” and the Disney Pixar film “Brave,” along with World War II veterans, helped inaugurate the first flight from Los Angelesย to Washington.

The new flight will feature American’s Boeing 757-200 aircraft with 22 First Class and 166 Main Cabin seats. As part of American’s fleet renewal effort, the airline is currently upgrading its Boeing 757 aircraft used on domestic routes to add style and comfort. Modifications include new Main Cabin and First Class seats, new sidewalls that give the interior a lighter and brighter look, and new LCD monitors to enhance inflight entertainment viewing.

Honoring Our Military Heroes

Actors Brian Dietzen, who plays “Jimmy Palmer” on the hit television drama series “NCIS,”ย and John Ratzenberger, who played “Cliff Clavin” on the award-winning sitcom “Cheers” โ€“ and who has voiced a character in each of Disney Pixar’s feature films, including the upcoming “Brave”ย โ€“ย helped welcome a very special group of American heroes as the first customers on the inaugural flight.

Nine World War II veterans from the Los Angeles area traveled on the inaugural flight in conjunction with American’s relationship with the Honor Flight Network. These distinguished veterans will receive a VIP tour of the World War II Memorial that is dedicated to their bravery and will visit other monuments that honor our veterans and members of the armed services. Dietzen and Ratzenberger spent time with these heroes on the transcontinental flight.

AirTran Airways launches new routes

AirTran Airways (Orlando and Atlanta) yesterday (May 4) began twice daily service from Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport to Jacksonville International Airport.

The company also launched yesterday daily nonstop service from Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, Mich., to both Orlando International Airport and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
