Fly Louie to offer flights between Pittsburgh and New York

Fly Louie has issued this statement:

Now there’s a smarter, easier way to travel between New York City and Pittsburgh. Faster, too, with Fly Louie. The new air service offers a modern take on air travel, combining the luxury and speed of private travel at some of the best prices available with single seat bookings on private flights.

Fly Louieย operates regularly scheduled flights on popular, underserved routes on private planes, allowing travelers to skip the commercial airport. Starting Monday, January 7, 2019, Fly Louie begins a new route with 16 weekly flights between Pittsburgh and New York. The flights operate out of Allegheny County Airport (AGC), just 9 miles from downtown Pittsburgh, and New York’s Westchester County Airport (HGN), where you can get to midtown Manhattan in under an hour by car service or the MTA Metro-North.

Passengers arrive at the airport 15 minutes before take-off and go from the tarmac to the office on arrival. For Pittsburgh to New York, that’s just under three hours from home to the ultimate destination. “We’re incredibly excited to start our PittsburghNew York route,” said Julia Takeda, founder and CEO of Fly Louie. “With Pittsburgh, it was love at first sight, and the response by the business community has been outstanding. Travelers want more options and flexibility when flying. Fly Louie will not only get you to your destination safely, but we also bring the speed and convenience of private travel and make it accessible to commercial travelers.”

With two pilots on every flight and a Fly Louie concierge at the private terminal, customers come first. Travelers can book by the seat or the entire plane on the website. And everything is included in the Fly Louie airfare: drinks and snacks, bags, and ticket changes. Fly Louie is offering a welcome rate of $538per seat ($495 + tax), valid on travel through Jan. 31, 2019.

All Fly Louie flights are performed by FAA-licensed and DOT-registered air carriers: Altius Aviation, Reliant Air Charter or similar air taxi. The preferred aircraft include the luxurious King Air 350, a twin-engine turboprop, and the Pilatus PC-12. The King Air 350 is considered one of the most comfortable solutions for short-haul flights. It is also more economical than comparably sized jets and offers virtually the same flight time.

“We prioritize safety, value, and speed above all for our passengers,” Julia adds. “And we work with excellent charter operators and crews to ensure a pleasant flight and a level of service that Fly Louie customers come back for.”

PittsburghNew York is Fly Louie’s second dedicated route. The company started a popular New York to Nantucket route in 2018 and plans to add new routes in the future.

With 2018 drawing to a close, British Airways is celebrating flying high in the last 12 months with additional investment for customers now totaling ยฃ6.5 bn. ย Hereโ€™s a recap of whatโ€™s changed at British Airways over the last year.

18 new aircraft for 2018

For 2018 British Airways introduced 18 new fuel-efficient aircraft to its fleet of almost 300 planes โ€“ including its 30th 787, plus A320 and 21neos, and Embraer for BA CityFlyer.ย  The airlineโ€™s 767 fleet was retired to make way for more new aircraft, arriving next year.

Work continued at pace to refresh existing long-haul cabins โ€“ with all seats being equipped with state-of-the-art entertainment systems and direct access to power.

Technology

During 2018, British Airways began installing its industry-leading streamingย WiFiย on long-haul aircraft โ€“ย  all short-haul aircraft will be fitted with the system by next summer.ย ย This exciting development allows customers to use their own devices to live stream TV programmes and movies.

The airlineโ€™s website, BA.com, received a refresh and achieved record sales. There were enhancements for the hugely popular BA app, including adding Appleโ€™s Siri voice service on the iPhone. A new reward app was also released to help British Airwaysโ€™ Executive Club members discover new ways to collect and spend Avios –ย  including selecting seats on flights, as well as spending on flights, car hire, hotels, excursions, etc.

The airline is focused on providing customers with a seamless and efficient journey through the airport. Throughout the year it continued to pioneer facial recognition airport technology. British Airways was the first airline to install biometric technology at Heathrow โ€“ enabling it to board domestic (UK) flights in half the usual time.ย ย It also began using the same technology to speedily board aircraft in Orlando, Los Angeles, New York and Miami.

Departing on time is important to customers, and as such, the airline became the first to introduce remote-controlled devices to push back aircraft, helping it to maintain its status asย theย most punctual of the three-big short-haul carriers flying from London, and reducing pushback delays by more than 70 percent. Trials are now underway on long-haul aircraft.

Premium service

The airline completed its roll-out of The White Company bedding in Club World, and announced that a new, larger seat would be launched for the cabin in 2019, on its A350 aircraft. It opened new lounges in Aberdeen, Rome and New Yorkโ€™s JFK. And the carrierโ€™s millionth customer was welcomed through its First Wing, reminiscent of a luxury hotel lobby, with dedicated security lanes and direct access to the First lounge.ย ย The team in the airlineโ€™s Concorde Lounge continued to work with the experts in customer service at the Dorchester Hotel to provide outstanding assistance to customers.

The airline also improved its connections service – doubling the number of cars offering premium customers on tight connections a chauffeur driven ride to their next flight.ย ย  Dedicated connections managers now fast-track customers through to their next flight, or re-book them onto another flight and organize a hotel if needed, all while theyโ€™re still in the air.

Dining

British Airways announced an extension to its partnership withย Do&Co, the premier provider of fine dining in the skies, for all flights departing from Heathrow.

It also launched a multi-million pounds investment in its World Traveller catering and fine dining in Club World cabins.

On short-haul the carrier invested in Club Europe, with new menus and improved recipes, and regularly updated M&S menus for customers travelling in Euro Traveller.

Customer Service

The airline became the first in Europe to start training its airport hosts at Heathrow Terminal 5 to handle a multitude of customer issues, around bookings, re-booking, upgrades, baggage and transfer queries and flight information.

Alongside this, it opened the only family check-in zone in the UK,ย and delivered staff training, to allow the 50,000 customers with hidden or visible disabilities to travel more comfortably.

At Heathrow Terminal 3 British Airways enhanced its our operation, with a new control room and flight connection centre to further improve punctuality.

On top of all of this, Skytrax voted British Airwaysโ€™ cabin crew the best in the UK in 2018.

Partnerships

The airline celebrated raising ยฃ20m for its Flying Start charity partnership with Comic Relief.

British Airways was proud to fly Team GB and Paralympics GB to Korea for the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, and Team UK to the Invictus Games in Sydney.

It formed partnerships with top-ranking British tennis player Kyle Edmund, England Rugby, and Twickenham.

It announced that Savile Row tailor and fashion designer,ย Ozwaldย Boateng, is to design a new uniform for 32,000 staff.

To celebrate International Womensโ€™ Day, the airline put on an all-female flight, which you can watch again here.

British Airways welcomed 600 work experience students to give them an idea of what itโ€™s like to work for an airline and held special events to encourage more girls to consider a career flying aircraft.

Xiamen Air opens a new route to the Philippines

Xiamen Air Boeing 737-85C WL B-5708 (msn 38403) SIN (Pascal Simon). Image: 940566.

On December 18, 2018ย Xiamen Airlines officially launched its Davao to Quanzhou nonstop flight, marking the opening of Davao’s first direct flight route to Mainland China. The new flight service is set to provide a bridge in the air for the economic and trade exchanges between Davao and Jinjiang of Quanzhou as sister cities.

Davao has thus become the fourth Philippine city where Xiamen Airlines operates direct flights, after Manila, Cebu and Kalibo. As the airline company enjoying the largest share of the commercial flight market between China and the Philippines, Xiamen Airlines has been facilitating the exchanges between the two nations through its flight network for 32 years in a row.

Davao’s First Nonstop Flight Route to Mainland China

Quanzhou, one of the three central cities in China’s Fujian Province, holds the distinction of being the only UNESCO-accredited starting point of the Maritime Silk Road. A large number of ethnic Chinese in the Philippines trace their ancestry to Quanzhou as well. Davao, the third largest Philippine city, is one of the leading cities in the country in terms of interaction with China.

In October, the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Davao officially opened. At the inauguration ceremony, China’s foreign minister Wang Yi specifically introduced Xiamen Airlines’ Davao-Quanzhou flight route, stating that it “is set to inject fresh vitality into the development of Davao and the southern part of the Philippines.” In November, Davao and Jinjiang of Quanzhou were paired up as sister cities, creating a solid platform for both cities to deepen goodwill cooperation and exchange on all fronts.

The Davao-Quanzhou flight route is serviced with Boeing 737s. The flight departs from Quanzhou Jinjiang International Airport at 09:00 every Tuesday and Friday, arriving in Davao at 12:15. The return flight leaves Davao International Airport at 13:15, arriving in Quanzhou at 16:30. It is currently the only direct flight between Davao and Mainland China.

The opening of the flight route not only provides ethnic Chinese in the Philippines with a fast and convenient “through bus in the air;” it also significantly facilitates business travels between China’sFujian Province and Davao, and is expected to boost economic, trade, cultural and tourist exchanges between the two regions.

Xiamen Airlines opened direct flights between Manila and Xiamen as early as November 1, 1986, making it one of the first Chinese carriers to offer direct flights between China and the Philippines. In recent years, Xiamen Airlines has devoted a greater part of its transportation capacity to the Philippines, providing vital air transportation support for the exchanges between the two nations on various fronts.

Before the opening of the Davao-Quanzhou flight route, Xiamen Airlines’ flight network covered three Philippine cities โ€“ Manila, Cebu and Kalibo, with six flight routes โ€“ ManilaXiamen/Quanzhou, Cebu-Xiamen/Fuzhou, and Kalibo-Hangzhou/Fuzhou. These flights routes connected to all major cities across China. There were 34 flights a week on these routes, with an accumulative total of 7,690 flights and nearly 1 million passengers, giving Xiamen Airlines the largest share of the commercial flight market between the two nations.

Going forward, Xiamen Airlines will devote greater resources to flights between the two countries to create a flight network that offers regular services between major Philippine cities and China’s Fujian, Beijing and Hangzhou, which are the bases of Xiamen Airlines. This is expected to further facilitate the economic and trade exchanges between the nations.

Since 2015, Xiamen Airlines has opened 11 intercontinental flight routes to Amsterdam, Sydney, Melbourne, Vancouver, Seattle/Tacoma, New York, Los Angeles and Paris. Its flight network now covers Europe, North America and Oceania.

Emirates and South African Airways to expand strategic partnership with enhanced codeshare agreement, operates A380 to Glasgow

Emirates, the worldโ€™s largest international airline and South African Airways (SAA), the South African flag carrier, are expanding their strategic cooperation with enhancements to its codeshare agreement, opening up new destinations for both Emirates and SAA customers.

Pending governmental approval, SAA and Emirates have signed an enhanced commercial partnership which will see the relationship between the two carriers grow and strengthen their already successful codeshare agreement signed in 1997, across a wide spectrum of commercial and customer touch points.

In 2017/18, the codeshare agreement between Emirates and SAA saw approximately 90,000 passengers benefit from seamless travel and greater connectivity, in this year alone. Emirates launched operations to South Africa in 1995 with flights between Dubai and Johannesburg. The relationship between SAA and Emirates spans over 20 years dating back to June 1997 with the signing of Emiratesโ€™ first ever codeshare agreement, whereby the SAA code started to appear on flights operated by Emirates to Dubai.

SAA is able to offer its customers seats on the eight daily flights operated by Emirates between South Africa and Dubai (four daily flights from Johannesburg including its iconic A380 aircraft, three daily flights from Cape Town and one daily flight from Durban).

The enhanced agreement means the codeshare will be expanded across both carriersโ€™ networks.

The two airlines will work towards bringing more synergies in their respective route network, customer touch points, cargo services and flight schedules to enable seamless connectivity and enhance passenger flows. Connectivity will be improved by adjusting connecting times through Johannesburg, with a special focus on popular regional markets.

Included in the new agreement are plans to enhance the frequent flyer programmes, Emiratesโ€™ Skywards and Voyager by SAA. Emirates became a Voyager airline partner in 2000, which means Voyager members are able to earn and redeem Miles on flights operated by Emirates; and similarly, Skywards members are able to earn and redeem Miles on SAA-operated flights.

The airlines will separately work on other areas of bilateral cooperation and an exchange of best practices across multiple airline functions.

Emirates in South Africa

Emirates launched services in South Africa in 1995 with flights to Johannesburg, and has since grown its footprint in the country to Cape Town and Durban. Emirates operates eight daily flights to South Africa (four to Johannesburg, three to Cape Town and one to Durban) including its iconic A380 to Johannesburg.

A 2016 study quantifying Emiratesโ€™ impact on the South African economy showed the Emirates Groupโ€™s total economic contribution amounted to US$417 million/ZAR 5.81 billion, supporting 12,989 jobs in FY 2014/15. Emirates has since grown its seat capacity to South Africa from 2,572 to 3,101 daily seats, increasing Emiratesโ€™ impact on the economy and employment further.

Emirates carries business and leisure travellers from around the world to โ€˜destination South Africaโ€™ via its Dubai hub. In FY 2017/18, Emirates carried over 1.7 million passengers to and from its three points in South Africa, and over 61,800 tonnes of high value cargo โ€“ including seafood, fruits and vegetables, fresh and frozen meats, wine, pharmaceuticals and gold. Over 1,000 South African nationals are employed by the Emirates Group, including over 250 pilots and 500 cabin crew.

In other news,ย Emirates has announced it will introduce a daily Airbus A380 service for a temporary period between Glasgow and Dubai from April 16, 2019. ย It will be the first time the popular double decker aircraft will operate on a scheduled basis to Scotland.

The larger capacity A380 will replace Emiratesโ€™ current twice daily Boeing 777 service between Glasgow and Dubai from April 16 until May 31, 2019, during which time Dubai Airports plan to close Dubai Internationalโ€™s (DXB) southern runway for upgrade works, and the single runway operations require airlines to reduce and adjust their operating schedules. The deployment of the A380 is to minimise the reduction of Emiratesโ€™ capacity from Glasgow to Dubai and beyond during this period.

The A380 flight will depart Dubai at 1450 hrs and arrive in Glasgow at 1945 hrs, while the return flight will leave Glasgow at 2130 hrs and land in Dubai at 0755 hrs the next morning.

From ย June 1 until September 30, 2019, the double daily service will be reinstated on the route, with the A380 operating on the first flight of the day, and a Boeing 777 on the second, increasing capacity on the route during this period to meet seasonal summer demand.

Thereafter, the service will revert back to a twice daily Boeing 777 operation. Launched in October this year, Emirates also offers a daily service to Edinburgh, bringing to three the number of daily flights between Scotland and Dubai.

The Emirates A380 will have a three class cabin configuration, offering 14 private suites in First Class, 76 lie flat seats in Business Class, and 399 spacious seats in Economy Class. Customers travelling to and from Glasgow on the A380 can look forward to more space across all classes, while enjoying Emiratesโ€™ famed hospitality and service from its multi-national cabin crew, award winning entertainment system, ice, with over 3500 channels of on demand audio and visual entertainment, Wi-Fi and complimentary meals and beverages.

First Class customers will have exclusive access to an on-board shower spa, while First and Business Class customers will enjoy the on-board lounge, where they can socialise with other travellers. As with all Emiratesโ€™ flights, customers get a generous baggage allowance, with 50kg for First Class, 40kg for Business Class and up to 35kg for Economy Class passengers.

Emirates first operated the A380 to Glasgow as a one off in April 2014, when the airline celebrated 10 years of successful operations to the city. This year also marks the 10th year of Emiratesโ€™ A380 operations. With an A380 fleet of 108, and with 54 additional aircraft on order, Emirates is the largest operator of A380s in the world.

Finally,ย Emirates, the main sponsor of Spanish football club, Real Madrid, has unveiled a new decal featuring action images of some of the clubโ€™s top players on one of its Airbus A380 aircraft.

The new decal was created to mark the occasion of Real Madridโ€™s charter flight on an Emirates A380 from Madrid to Abu Dhabi today, where the team in their capacity as current European champions will compete with football club champions from other continents.

The bespoke decal features first team players Marcelo, Luka Modriฤ‡, Sergio Ramos, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, and covers over 200 square metres on each side of the double decker aircraft. A time lapse video of the decal being placed onto the A380 can be viewed here.

Decals featuring Real Madrid players first appeared on an Emirates A380 in 2015, and has since become an eye-catching representation of the airlineโ€™s association with the club. Emirates has been the Official Main Sponsor of Real Madrid since 2013 with Fly Emirates branding prominently displayed on the playersโ€™ kits.

The decal will remain on the aircraft for six months and fans can catch the aircraft as it traverses the globe with scheduled services planned to Washington, Nice, Mauritius, London Gatwick and Sao Paulo.

Emirates is the world’s largest operator of the double-decker A380 aircraft, with 108 in service, and another 54 pending delivery. The aircraft is deployed to about 50 destinations across six continents around Emirates global network. Customers travelling to and from Spain, have the opportunity to experience the Emirates A380 on one of the double daily services to both Madrid and Barcelona.
