Gulfstream wins an EAS contract to serve four Continental Connection destinations from the Cleveland hub

Gulfstream International Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) has been awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) a new two year contract as the Essential Air Service (EAS) provider for the communities of Bradford, PA; DuBois, PA; Franklin/Oil City, PA and Jamestown, NY. Gulfstream operates flights from all four cities to the Continental Airlines hub in Cleveland, OH.

These flights will continue to be operated under Gulfstream’s Continental Connection affiliation with Continental Airlines. Under this arrangement, Gulfstream coordinates pricing and schedules with Continental Airlines.

Gulfstream currently operates 23 aircraft with over 150 daily system departures throughout Florida, the Bahamas and now with service at Cleveland, OH. Gulfstream operates as Continental Connection, under contractual agreement with Continental Airlines. Additionally, Gulfstream has codeshare relationships with United Airlines and Copa Airlines of Panama.

OpenSkies offers a money-back guarantee

OpenSkies (British Airways) (Paris-Orly), the all business-class airline operating transatlantic flights, today launched its “OpenSkies Satisfaction Guarantee” program offering customers the opportunity to fly the airline and receive reimbursement if not satisfied with the experience โ€“ an unprecedented offer in the airline sector.

According to the airline, the launch of this unique program, in effect today, Wednesday, September 8, 2010 through November 30, 2010, follows a survey conducted by OpenSkies in June 2010, which reveals that of the 4,250 people polled, 96.85 percent of passengers would recommend OpenSkies.

OpenSkies currently flies from Newark and Washington (Dulles) to Paris (Orly).

UPS loses N571UP and two crew members at Dubai

UPS Airlines (United Parcel Service) (Atlanta and Louisville) yesterday (September 3) lost its Boeing 747-44AF N571UP (msn 35668) and the two crew members on board when it crashed on takeoff at Dubai.

American to start DFW-Barbados flights

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) is planning to add nonstop flights to Barbados from its Dallas- Fort Worth (DFW) hub three times per week service beginning on December 16. Currently the airline provides daily nonstop service from New York-JFK and Miami International Airport.

The flight will be operated with Boeing 757 aircraft with 22 seats in Business Class and 166 in the Coach cabin.

American Eagle starts New York LaGuardia-Charlotte

American Eagle Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) yesterday (August 24) launched three daily nonstop flights between New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). Eagle is flying the route with Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet aircraft.

All of American Eagle’s existing fleet of 25 CRJ700 aircraft have been outfitted with a premium cabin, and the airline has also begun taking delivery of 22 new two-class CRJ700s, with all the new jets arriving by the end of second quarter 2011.

Gulfstream International Airlines to fly Parkersburg-Cleveland for Continental

Gulfstream International Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) announced details of its new service linking Parkersburg, WV with Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Gulfstream will inaugurate this new service on October 1, 2010. These flights will be operated under Gulfstream’s “Continental Connection” affiliation with Continental Airlines.

Gulfstream currently operates 23 Beech (Raytheon) 1900D aircraft with over 150 daily system departures throughout Florida, the Bahamas and now with service at Cleveland, OH. Gulfstream operates as Continental Connection, under contractual agreement with Continental Airlines. Southwest Airlines converts 25 options for 25 additional Boeing 737-700s

Southwest Airlines (Dallas) according to the Associated Press converted 25 options into firm orders for 25 Boeing 737-700s in order to continue to replace older 737-300/500s. Deliveries will run from 2011 through 2016. The order was previously attributed to an unidentified customer.

Qatar Airways orders two more Boeing 777-200 LRs

Qatar Airways (Doha) announced an order for two additional Boeing 777-200 LR (Longer Range) airliners. This order was previously accounted for on Boeing’s Orders and Deliveries website attributed to an unidentified customer.

Qatar Airways already operates six 777-200 LRs, 11 777-300 ERs and two 777F Freighters. Including today’s order, Qatar Airways has 10 777s in unfilled orders.

UAL Corporation reports its first quarterly profit since 2007

UAL Corporation (United Airlines) (Chiacgo) reported its first quarterly profit since 2007 with a second quarter net profit of $430 million, or $1.95 per diluted share, excluding non-cash, net mark-to-market hedge gains and certain accounting charges as outlined in note 4 of the attached statement of consolidated operations, an improvement of $751 million from second quarter 2009. The company reported a GAAP net profit of $273 million, or $1.29 per diluted share.

This profit beats Wall Street’s expectations.

Will AMR sell American Eagle?

American Eagle Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) is again facing the possibility of being spun off and sold. Parent AMR Corporation is again considering this possibility following the sale of two regional carriers by Delta Air Lines.

In route news, American Eagle Airlines, yesterday (July 2) launched five daily nonstop flights between New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport (ATL). Eagle is flying the route with Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet aircraft, featuring Eagle’s new First Class service. Eagle is now expanding operations at LGA with CRJ700s.

Additionally, American Eagle, yesterday (July 2) also launched nonstop jet service between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Tri-Cities Regional Airport (TRI), operating the service with 44-seat Embraer ERJ 140 regional jets.
