JetBlue Airways and British Airways start interlining, becomes the 25th partner for JetBlue

JetBlue Airways (New York)ย and British Airways (London) have announced an interline agreement to connect the carriers’ networks at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), creating new possibilities for travelers.

This marks the first partnership between JetBlue and British Airways, and the 25thย airline agreement for JetBlue. The carriers initially plan to interline on 18 daily trans-Atlantic British Airways flights, more than 50 U.S routes on the JetBlue network and more than 100 British Airways routes beyond London. British Airways’ intercontinental routes that are part of the interline agreement include Boston-London Heathrow (LHR), New York/JFK-London City Airport (LCY), New York/JFK- London Heathrow (LHR), New York/JFK-Paris Orly (ORY), Orlando-London Gatwick (LGW) and Washington/Dulles-London Heathrow (LHR). Tickets can be purchased through British Airways.

Customers will be able to enjoy access to a variety of British Airways destinations beyond London, including Europe, Africa, the Middle East and India, as well as non-stop access to Paris Orly Airport from New York. Meanwhile, British Airways customers can now book onward tickets to new U.S. destinations such as Burlington, Vermont (BTV); Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts (MVY); Nantucket, Massachusetts (ACK); and Portland, Maine (PWM).

At JFK Airport British Airways operates from Terminal 7. ย JetBlue operates from nearby Terminal 5, a quick ride away on the airport’s free AirTrain service.

At Boston Airport, where JetBlue is the largest carrier and offers nonstop service to 49 cities, more than any other airline, British Airways operates from Terminal E, while JetBlue operates from nearby Terminal C.

At Orlando, where JetBlue operates numerous routes to the Caribbean and Latin America, British Airways operates from Terminal B and JetBlue from Terminal A.

United to start new service to Guatemala City and San Jose, Costa Rica tomorrow

United Airlines (Chicago) will begin weekly year-round service between its hub at Washington-Dulles International Airport and both Guatemala City, Guatemala, and San Jose, Costa Rica, on April 13.ย  The airline also will begin weekly year-round service between its Chicago O’Hare hub and San Jose the same day.

All routes will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 16 seats in United Business, 48 seats in Economy Plus and 90 seats in United Economy class. ย The new flights complement United’s existing service to Guatemala City and San Jose from the airline’s hubs in New York and Houston.

JetBlue announces a new code-share agreement with Qatar Airways

JetBlue Airways (New York)ย and Qatar Airways (Doha)ย today announced a one-way codeshare agreement to connect the carriers’ networks via New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport, subject to receipt of government approval.

The two airlines have been interline partners since 2011, enabling customers to enjoy the convenience of a single combined ticket for Qatar and JetBlue-operated flights, plus other benefits including one-stop check-in and baggage transfer.

Tickets featuring a Qatar Airways flight number will soon be available for sale for JetBlue-operated connections in 26 markets between New York/JFK and Washington Dulles, including the following U.S. destinations:

  • Buffalo, New York (BUF)
  • Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT)
  • Denver, Colorado (DEN)
  • Fort Lauderdale, Florida (FLL)
  • Fort Myers, Florida (RSW)
  • Jacksonville, Florida (JAX)
  • Long Beach, California (LGB)
  • New Orleans, Louisiana (MSY)
  • Palm Beach, Florida, (PBI)
  • Phoenix, Arizona (PHX)
  • Portland, Oregon (PDX)
  • Salt Lake City, Utah (SLC)
  • Syracuse, New York (SYR)

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said: “We are delighted to further expand our partnership with JetBlue, an airline that focuses on quality and service, a key hallmark of Qatar Airways. Through this enhanced agreement, we will extend our reach to more customers and more markets, providing greater convenience for travellers to and from our global network.”

JetBlue customers can avail themselves of Qatar Airways’ connecting service to destinations across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific regions, including 12 cities in India and a number of destinations including Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Kuwait, Riyadh, Islamabad, Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.

JetBlue is a top domestic airline at JFK, with more than 150 daily departures to dozens of major U.S. cities including Boston, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Orlando, San Francisco, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, from its home at the modern Terminal 5.

At Washington Dulles, the airline offers service to Boston, New York, and Long Beach and Oakland, California. Customers traveling with JetBlue enjoy premium amenities including unlimited free snacks and drinks, personal seatback televisions, spacious leather seating, the most legroom in coach of any U.S. airline (based on average fleet-wide seat pitch), and personalized service from JetBlue’s award-recognized in-flight crewmembers.

Silver Airways is coming to Macon, Georgia

Silver Airways (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) has been selected for Essential Air Service (EAS) authority to serve Macon, Georgia (MCN). The company expects to launch operations on April 1 to both Atlanta and Orlando (weekend only service) according to this report by The Telegraph.

Delta Air Lines is looking at an order for 24-30 narrow body aircraft

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) is in discussions with both Airbus and Boeing about an order for 24 to 30 narrow body airliners according to this report by Bloomberg.

Delta is in a select group of airlines that operates both the Airbus A319/A320 family (inherited from Northwest) and the Boeing 737-700/800 Next-Generation family. The order will be for current models which are now being reportedly discounted by the manufacturers pending the arrival of the next round of new more fuel-efficient engines.

Porter Airlines finishes 2012 with a record 2.45 million passengers

Porter Airlines (Toronto) wrapped up 2012 on a high, reporting a 64.3 per cent load factor for December. This is an increase of 0.4 points from last year.

For the calendar year, Porter carried 2.45 million passengers versus 2.13 million in 2011. This is an increase of 15 per cent. Load factor in 2012 improved 0.3 points to 62 per cent compared to 61.7 percent the year prior.

Figures for December show 121 million Available Seat Miles (ASMs) and 77.8 million Revenue Passenger Miles (RPMs). ASMs grew 2.9 per cent from 117.6 million and RPMs increased 3.5 per cent from 75.2 million last year.

“Overall, Porter has finished 2012 by solidifying our gains for passenger numbers and load factor through the year,” said Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines. “I want to thank our team for continuing to deliver a travel experience that is known to be distinct among our competitors. This emphasis on premium service will help us attract new customers and continue growing in 2013.”

United Airlines announces new routes from its hub cities

United Airlines (Chicago) today announced plans to launch nonstop service on several new international and domestic routes beginning in the spring of 2013, including:

  • New flights to Latin America from Chicago and Washington, D.C.
  • New service to Canada from Denver, New York, and Washington, D.C.
  • Additional domestic routes from Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

United and its regional partners will operate these new routes with a mix of mainline and regional aircraft.

United will begin weekly year-round service between its hub at Washington-Dulles International Airport and both Guatemala City, Guatemala, and San Jose, Costa Rica, subject to government approval. The airline will also begin weekly year-round service between its Chicago O’Hare hub and San Jose, subject to government approval. These flights, beginning April 13, 2013, will operate using Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 16 seats in United Business, 48 seats in Economy Plus and 90 seats in United Economy class.

These new flights will complement United’s existing service to Guatemala City and San Jose from the airline’s hubs in New York and Houston.

United will launch new flights between its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, beginning on May 1, 2013. The flights will operate six-times-weekly, using Airbus A319 aircraft, configured with eight seats in United First, 40 in Economy Plus, and 72 in United Economy.

The airline also serves Edmonton from its hubs in Chicago, Denver, Houston, and San Francisco.

New service between the Washington-Dulles hub and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, will begin on June 8, 2013, using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, operating on Saturdays and Sundays through August 25, 2013.

United serves Vancouver year-round from Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco, and seasonally from New York-Newark.

On June 6, 2013 United will start service between Denver and Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada, the only nonstop service offered from Fort McMurray to the United States. SkyWest Airlines will operate the daily flights using 66-seat Canadair CRJ-700 regional jets, with six seats in United Business, 28 seats in Economy Plus, and 32 seats in United Economy.

Fort McMurray will be United’s 18thย destination in Canada.ย  United offers more flights to more destinations in Canada than any other US airline.

United will also add new domestic routes from four of its hubs:

  • Chicago โ€“ย Daily flights between Chicago and Fairbanks, Alaska, begin on June 6, 2013, using Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Chicago is the second United hub with service to Fairbanks, following the addition of flights from Denver earlier this year.
  • Denver โ€“ย Twice-daily United Express service between Denver and Santa Fe, N.M., will begin on May 1, 2013. ExpressJet will operate the flights using 50-seat Embraer ERJ 145 regional jet aircraft.
  • Los Angeles โ€“ย New United Express service between the Los Angeles hub and Wichita, Kan., will begin on May 1, 2013. SkyWest Airlines will operate the daily flights using 66-seat Canadair CRJ700 regional jets. These flights are in addition to United’s existing service to Wichita from Chicago, Denver and Houston.
  • Washington-Dulles โ€“ย United will add daily United Express service between Washington-Dulles and Grand Rapids, Michigan beginning on May 1, 2013. ExpressJet will operate the flights with 50-seat Embraer ERJ 145 regional jet aircraft. United currently serves Grand Rapids from hubs in Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Houston and New York.

United Airlines to launch new service to Monterrey, Mexico and San Salvador, El Salvador tomorrow

United Airlines (Chicago) will begin daily nonstop service between its hub at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and Monterrey, Mexico, on December 19, 2012. The same day, United will begin daily service between its Washington/Dulles International Airport hub and San Salvador International Airport in El Salvador.

Chicago O’Hare to Monterrey

Flight UA6276 will depart Chicago at 8:50 a.m., arriving in Monterrey at 12:20 p.m. The return flight, UA6277, will depart Monterrey at 12:55 p.m., arriving in Chicago at 4:25 p.m. (all times local).

The new Chicago-Monterrey United Express flight will operate using Canadair CRJ700 regional jet aircraft with 66 seats โ€“ six in first class, 28 in Economy Plus and 32 in economy.

United offers service to 28 Mexican destinations — more than any other airline from the U.S.ย  The airline also serves Monterrey seven times daily from its Houston hub. From Chicago, United offers nonstop daily service to Mexico City.

Washington, D.C. (Dulles) to San Salvador

Flight UA1660 will depart Washington at 8:59 a.m., arriving in San Salvador at 12:45 p.m. The return flight, UA1716, will depart San Salvador at 1:35 p.m., arriving in Washington at 6:54 p.m. (all times local).

The flight will operate with Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 154 seats โ€“ 16 in first class, 48 in Economy Plus and 90 in economy.

United also operates twice-daily flights to San Salvador from its Houston hub.

US Airways and South African Airways expand their codeshare agreement

US Airways (Phoenix) and fellow Star Alliance member South African Airways (Johannesburg) today announced a new bilateral codeshare agreement after receiving approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Department of Transport โ€“ South Africa. Flights are currently available for sale for travel beginning on December 19.

US Airways customers will gain access to destinations throughout South Africa with the new agreement and to Dakar, Senegal pending final government approval, along with the convenience of a single-ticket purchase. Conversely, customers traveling on South African Airways will also receive expanded access to and throughout the United States.ย  US Airways customers will continue to have the ability to earn and redeem Dividend Miles on these new codeshare flights. South African Airways customers will also continue to earn and redeem miles as a member of the Voyager Frequent Flyer program.

US Airways customers will have access to South African Airways’ hub in Johannesburg as well as convenient connections to Cape Town, Durban, East London and Port Elizabeth in South Africa.ย  Customers will also have access to Dakar, Senegal via South African Airways’ Washington-Dulles to Johannesburg.ย  South African Airways customers will have access to US Airways’ hub cities of Charlotte, N.C., Philadelphia and Phoenix as well as various destinations within the United States. United Airlines’ pilots ratify the new contract

United Airlines (Chicago) yesterday (December 15) ย announced that its pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), ratified a new joint labor agreement for all United Airlines pilots.

“The ratification of this agreement is an important step forward for our pilots and the company,” said Fred Abbott, senior vice president of flight operations. “We look forward to the efficiencies and teamwork we will achieve as our pilots become one group once they complete their seniority integration.”

The agreement runs through December 2016 and covers nearly 10,000 United pilots.
