Emirates arrives in Washington

Emirates Airline (Dubai), one of the fastest growing airlines in the world, has launched its daily nonstop service from Dubai to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). It is the seventh gateway for Emirates in the United States, and the twelfth new route to join the airlineโ€™s international network in 2012.

Lufthansa’s cabin crews delay their strike plans

Lufthansa‘s (Frankfurt) 10,000 cabin staff (flight attendants)ย haveย rejected the latest contract proposal. The union will decide next week whether they will strike according to this report by Reuters.

Colgan Air’s Bombardier DHC-8-402 N341NG collides on the ground with Lufthansa’s Airbus A330-343X D-AIKE at Washington Dulles

Colgan Air (2nd) (Memphis) has its share of problems. First the company is going out of business on September 5. Adding to this problem, yesterday (August 10) aย Lufthansa Airbus A330-343X registered as D-AIKE clipped the tail of Colgan Air’s Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Q400) N341NG operating as ย flight UA 3912 for United Express from Pittsburgh to Washington (Dulles). After landing at Dulles and during the taxi to the gate at Dulles International Airport (IAD) the incident happened. There were no injuries.

Lufthansa Group’s second quarter operating profit jumps 28% to $444 million

Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa) (Frankfurt) reported its operating profit rose 28 percent to $444 million, beating estimates. The Group has been dropping unprofitable routes and reducing costs.

United starts Washington Dulles-Dublin flights today

United Airlines (Chicago)ย today (June 7) will welcome government officials from Ireland and VIP guests to its Washington hub, Dulles International Airport, to celebrate the launch of the airline’s new daily nonstop service between Washington and Dublin Airport.

Ambassador of Ireland to the United States H.E. Michael Collins, United Vice President of Hubs and Line Stations Fernie Lopez, Vice President of Marketing-USA for Tourism Ireland Alison Metcalfe and Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority President and CEO Jack Potter will address customers and guests before joining other community leaders in a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at the gate to officially begin service to Dublin.

United will operate the service using Boeing 757-200 aircraft featuring 169 seats โ€“ 16 flat-bed seats in United BusinessFirst and 153 in United Economy, including 45 Economy Plus seats with added legroom and increased personal space.

In May, United launched new service from Washington Dulles to Doha, Qatar and Manchester, U.K. United will also begin a new daily nonstop service between Washington Dulles and Honolulu beginning June 7.
