Spirit Airlines announces Las Vegas – New Orleans flights

Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) has announced daily, nonstop service to and from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International (MSY) and McCarran International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas.

This new daily service begins on November 13, 2015 and brings the total number of Spirit nonstop flights to six destinations from New Orleans including Chicago (O’Hare), Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood, Houston (Bush Intercontinental), Dallas/Fort Worth, and Detroit.

Spirit operates 28 daily departures to 19 destinations from Las Vegas.

Air Canada rouge to introduce the Airbus A321 on December 16

Air Canada rouge (subsidiary of Air Canada) (Toronto) will soon be receiving five Airbus A321s from parent Air Canada (Montreal).

The leisure brand is planning to introduce the new type on December 16 on the Montreal (Trudeau) – Las Vegas route followed by Montreal (Trudeau) – Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood service two days later per Airline Route.

Rouge will also introduce the A321 from Toronto (Pearson) on January 14, 2016 with flights to Punta Cana and Tampa, followed by Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Sarasota/Bradenton, Varadero and Phoenix.

Delta to end the Salt Lake City – Chicago Midway route, PRASM declined 3% in July

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) will end the Salt Lake City – Chicago (Midway) route on August 31. The daily Delta Connection route is currently operated with Bombardier CRJ900 jets per Airline Route.

In other news, Delta today reported “consolidated passenger unit revenue (PRASM) for the month of July decreased 3.0 percent year over year, with pressure from foreign exchange, lower surcharges in international markets, and continued yield pressure in select domestic markets.”

Air Canada sets new records for daily passengers

Air Canada (Montreal) said it achieved a single-day record for passengers carried on July 30 and it expected to surpass its record again yesterday as Canadians take to the skies for the August holiday long weekend. On July 30 Air Canada welcomed an estimated 141,000 customers on board its aircraft, and the July 31 forecasted bookings indicated that number was expected to grow to approximately 150,000.

Frontier announces new routes from Orlando and Las Vegas

Frontier Airlines (2nd) (Denver) is adding new routes from the two biggest leisure markets in the United States, Orlando and Las Vegas.

Today the carrier announced two new routes from Orlando to both Indianapolis and Los Angeles.

From Las Vegas, the ultra low-fare carrier is adding four new routes to Houston (Bush Intercontinental), Miami, Milwaukee and San Francisco.

Additionally, the airline will start new service from Philadelphia to both Fort Myers and Montego Bay.

The new routes begin on October 25.

The company issued this statement on the new service:

Frontier Airlines will add new nonstop service in leisure markets across its network with the addition of new flights in eight cities throughout the United States and Caribbean. This new service begins October 25.

Four new cities from Las Vegas

Frontier will add four daily nonstop flights between Las Vegas and Miami, Milwaukee, Houston and San Francisco. These flights will operate daily on Frontier’s fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft. The addition of the four new cities brings Frontier’s nonstop destinations from Las Vegas to 13. Currently, Frontier serves Atlanta; Austin Texas; Chicago O’Hare; Cleveland; Cincinnati; Denver; Orlando; St. Louis and Washington — Dulles from Las Vegas.

Four new markets in Florida and the Caribbean

Frontier also will add new service between Orlando and Indianapolis and Los Angeles as well as adding new service between Philadelphia and vacation destinations, Fort Myers and Montego Bay. From Orlando the number of nonstop Frontier destinations will increase to 12, more than doubling its level of service in the past year.

Allegiant announces further expansion in Memphis

Allegiant Air (Las Vegas) has announced further expansion in Memphis with the addition of twice weekly nonstop service to Austin, Texas and St. Petersburg/Clearwater beginning on October 1, 2015.

Allegiant began service to Memphis last May with flights to Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood, Las Vegas and Sanford (near Orlando).

Delta to extend the seasonal Boston-Paris (CDG) route to year-round service

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) will extend its seasonal daily nonstop service between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Boston Logan International Airport to a year-round operation, beginning on October 25.

The route will be operated in conjunction with joint venture partner Air France (Paris) and will become Delta’s 10th U.S. gateway offered year-round from Paris. Delta will operate the service on a Boeing 757-200 aircraft.

Volaris arrives in New York

Volaris (Controladora Vuela Compania de Aviacion, S.A.B. de C.V.) (Mexico City) on July 15 opened a new nonstop route from Guadalajara to New York (JFK). The new route operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The carrier now operates 140 routes to 62 destinations, of which 23 are international and 38 domestic.

Statement by Southwest Airlines regarding Dallas Love Field gate usage

Southwest Airlines (Dallas) has issued this statement concerning the City of Dallas and Delta Air Lines (Atlanta):

Southwest supports the City’s efforts to manage Love Field in accordance with its obligations under airline leases and the Wright Amendment Reform Act. Southwest disagrees with guidance provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation regarding the use of Love Field gates by non-tenant airlines like Delta. That guidance not only violates Southwest’s legal and contractual rights but would also reduce competition, costing consumers millions of dollars in higher airfares.

Delta’s temporary license to use gate space at Dallas Love Field expires at midnight on July 6, 2015. Beginning August 9, Southwest will fully utilize its 18 Love Field gates by operating 180 flights a day to 50 nonstop destinations resulting in an industry-leading gate utilization of ten flights a day per gate. Southwest will therefore be unable to accommodate any other airline, including Delta, on its gates after that date. Tickets on these Southwest flights have been for sale to our Customers since February or earlier.

The lawsuit filed by the City of Dallas allows the City and Southwest to ask the court to properly interpret applicable law as well as the contractual agreements entered into by the City and Southwest relating to Love Field, which clearly give Southwest the right to expand upon and maximize the usage of its leased gates in the best interest of the citizens of Dallas. Every other air carrier serving North Texas, including Delta, can grow without restriction at DFW Intl. Airport, which Delta currently serves. Southwest is restricted from growing beyond its 18 Love Field gates, which is a small fraction of the total 185 gates in the Dallas Ft. Worth market.
