Norwegian takes delivery of its first Boeing 787-8 from ILFC and Boeing

Norwegian Air Shuttle (Norwegian Long haul) (Oslo) has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Boeing, International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) and Norwegian celebrated several milestones on Thursday (June 27) during a delivery ceremony for a new 787 Dreamliner. It was the first 787 delivered to ILFC and its lessee, Norwegian, which will operate the airplane. The 787 also marked the 700^th airplane Boeing delivered to ILFC.

The delivery to ILFC builds on Boeing’s 40-year relationship with the Los Angeles-based leasing company and largest 787 customer with 74 Dreamliners on order.

Norwegian currently has eight 787s on order through lease agreements and direct deliveries. The carrier will use the 787s to service its new long-haul routes from Oslo and Stockholm to New York (JFK) and Bangkok. In November, the airline also will operate the 787 to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood from Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen.

The delivery flight to Oslo (Gardermoen) took 8 hours and 20 minutes.

Before the new aircraft is deployed on its long-haul routes to New York (JFK) and Bangkok, between July 4 and August 4, the new type will be flying a range of European routes from Oslo to include London, Alicante, Malaga, Nice and Barcelona.

Air Lease Corporation signs a contract for 20 A350-900s and five A350-1000s

Air Lease Corporation (ALC) (Los Angeles), the aircraft leasing company, has signed a contract for 25 A350 XWB Family aircraft, consisting of 20 A350-900 and five A350-1000, the largest member of the A350 XWB Family. ALC also has options for five additional A350-1000s. With this new order, ALC becomes the 35th A350 XWB customer and the order takes the A350 XWB backlog past 600 (to 617).

Concurrently, ALC has signed a purchase order for 14 A321neo aircraft following an earlier agreement announced at the 2012 Farnborough International Air Show for 36 A320neo Family aircraft plus 14 options. With this latest confirmation from ALC, the lessor’s cumulative orders for the A320neo Family have reached 50, of which up to 34 will be A321neo models. ALC will announce engine selections at a later date.

ALAFCO firms up its order for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8s

Boeing (Chicago) and Kuwait airplane leasing company ALAFCO (Kuwait City) finalized an order for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8s valued at $2.0 billion at current list price. The order was first announced as a commitment at the Farnborough Airshow in July.

The order brings the total number of 737 MAX orders to date to 878.

Jetairfly to lease two Embraer ERJ 190s in 2013

Jetairfly (Jetairfly.com) (TUI Airlines Belgium) (subsidiary of TUI Travel PLC) (Brussels) will lease two Embraer ERJ 190 jets under an agreement with BOC Aviation (Singapore), an aircraft leasing company. The two ERJ 190s will be delivered in the first half of 2013.

Jetairfly’s ERJ 190s will be configured with 112 slim line seats in a single-class layout. The E-Jets will allow the airline to provide capacity more economically on lower-demand routes that are currently served by larger narrow-body equipment. The ERJ 190s are also intended to be deployed in winter markets where seasonal demand is better satisfied with 100-seat aircraft.

Boeing and Air Lease Corporation announce order for 75 737 MAXs

Boeing (Chicago) and Air Lease Corporation (Los Angeles) announced today a firm order for 60 737 MAX 8 and 15 737 MAX 9 airplanes, with reconfirmation rights for 25 additional 737 MAXs. The order, with a list-price value of $7.2 billion, represents the first 737 MAX order by a leasing company.

The 737 MAX is a new-engine variant of the world’s best selling airplane and builds on the strengths of today’s Next-Generation 737. The 737 MAX incorporates the latest-technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market.

Airlines operating the 737 MAX will see a 13 percent fuel burn improvement over today’s most fuel efficient single-aisle airplanes and an eight percent operating cost per seat advantage over tomorrow’s competition.

ALC has ordered a total of 170 airplanes from Boeing including 75 737 MAX, 78 Next-Generation 737-800s, five 777-300ERs (Extended Range) and 12 787-9 Dreamliners.
