TUI AG to sell Corsair to Groupe Dubreuil, the owner of Air Caraibes

Corsair International (Paris-Orly), the French airline unit of TUI AG, will be sold to Groupe Dubreuil, the owner of Air Caraibes. Both carriers will be operated separately according to this report by Bloomberg.

According to Bloomberg, “Dubreuil, who sold French carrier Regional Airlines to Air France in 2000, said he plans to sign a lease deal for three A350s from an unspecified supplier, adding to six of the wide-body twinjets that are already due to arrive from 2016 through 2023 — three ordered outright for Air Caraibes and three to be leased from ILFC, now owned by AerCap Holdings NV.”

TUI Travel commits for 60 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft

Boeing (Chicago) and TUI Travel PLC (London) announced a commitment today for 60 737 MAX airplanes, valued at $6.09 billion at list prices. The commitment by one of the world’s leading leisure travel groups includes 737 MAX 8s and 9s. Boeing looks forward to working with TUI Travel to finalize the details, at which time the order will be posted as a firm order to the Boeing Orders and Deliveries website.

“A major part of TUI Travel’s strategy is to provide our customers with unique holiday experiences that they can only get from us,” said Peter Long, Chief Executive, TUI Travel. “This multi-billion pound investment in the Boeing 737 MAX – representing the future generation of more fuel-efficient aircraft for our short and medium-haul programs – will be a further driver in delivering this.”

The TUI Travel airlines are Arkefly (Netherlands), Corsair International (France), Jetairfly (Belgium), Thomson Airways (UK), TUIfly (Germany) and TUIfly Nordic (Sweden). This graph shows TUI Travels’ brands and market shares in these key European markets:

Corsair International accepts its first Airbus A330-300

Corsair International (Paris-Orly) yesterday (November 27) took delivery of the first of two A330-300s ordered from Airbus. The aircraft was delivered at a special ceremony in Toulouse attended by Corsair Chairman, Pascal de Izaguirre.

This new A330-300 is part of TUI’s commitment to invest in today’s greenest aircraft and to strengthen services from Paris across the Atlantic Ocean, to the French West Indies, Canada and West Africa and to the Indian Ocean destinations The aircraft is the first to be delivered from the two A330-300s ordered in December 2010. It will enter in commercial service by end of this month .

Corsair to resume weekly service to Cancun on November 1

Corsair International (formerly Corsairfly) (Paris-Orly) is planning to resume weekly Paris (Orly)-Cancun service with Boeing 747-400s starting on November 1 according to Airline Route.

Corsairfly rebrands as Corsair International

Corsairfly (Corsairfly.com) (Paris-Orly) is going back to its roots, rebranding as Corsair International with an imposing new livery. The first aircraft has not yet been painted, but an Airbus A330-200 is expected to be repainted this summer.

According to Wikipedia, the French airline was established in 1981 and started operations on May 17, 1981 as Corse Air International. It was founded by the Corsican Rossi family and was acquired by Nouvelles Frontières, a French tour operator, in 1990 and the name was changed to Corsair. Worldwide traffic rights were obtained in 1991. In 2000 TUI AG, one of the world’s leading tour operator groups, took over Nouvelles Frontières. In 2004, Corsair aircraft were repainted in the above TUI colors using the Corsairfly name. On March 22, 2012, the airline announced it was changing its name to Corsair International.
