LOT announces increased frequencies to North America and new destinations

LOT Polish Airlines (Warsaw) in the winter season of 2016/2017 will enhance its presence in the US by increasing frequencies from New York (JFK) and Chicago (O’Hare) to Warsaw. The Polish carrier has also announced several new long-haul destinations from its Warsaw hub to Bangkok, Seoul and Tokyo (Narita). LOT will also launch more than a dozen new European connections, thus expanding its hub and providing convenient connecting flights to passengers flying to such cities as Ljubljana, Zurich, Cluj-Napoca and Nice.

The airline continued:

Long-haul flights are the most important part of LOT’s strategy. The first new long-haul flight is scheduled for January 13, 2016 and will be to Tokyoโ€“the first direct connection from Poland and New Europe (Central and Eastern Europe) to Japan. Bangkok and Seoul will start in autumn 2016. The Polish carrier will also enhance its presence in New York and Chicago by adding two additional frequencies to its winter schedule from each city.

“Opening new long-haul destinations is essential for our development, which is why we will launch them as quickly as possible,” said Sebastian Mikosz, CEO of LOT Polish Airlines.

“Even now, connections operated by the Dreamliner (above) are the most profitable part of our business.

LOT is the only airline that offers on a larger scale, convenient, regular flights from Poland and New Europe to New York, Chicago, Toronto and Beijing. Four current connections will be supplemented with three more, and later this year, LOT will announce two new long-haul destinations to operate in 2016. After opening these five new destinations next year, LOT will more than double its network of long-haul connections compared to today. We want our hub to develop along with us. Opening more than a dozen European connections guarantees even more convenient transfers for new passengers from Poland and the entire region. But the new connections are just the start. Next year we plan to enhance our presence in those destinations where we already operate. This means, for example, an increased frequency of flights from Chicago and New York in the winter season.”

In addition to the new long-haul flights, LOT will begin to fly to three new destinations in Europe in 2016: from Warsaw to Venice and Cluj-Napoca (January) and to Ljubljana (March). LOT will also return to routes that were suspended due to the Restructuring Plan. Thus LOT’s passengers will be able to fly directly from Warsaw to Barcelona (January) and to Athens, Nice, Zurich and Beirut (March). From January 2016, flights between Warsaw and Belgrade, Dusseldorf, Yerevan, Chisinau, Zagreb and between Gdansk and Krakow will be restored, many of which are the connections suspended since July this year, as part of the final pool of compensatory measures required by the European Commission.

LOT is able to operate the entire first phase of its network development using only existing aircraft.

Update: On July 7, 2015 Boeing issued this statement:

Boeing logo (medium)Boeing, airline customers, industry partners and community leaders joined together on July 7 to celebrate Boeing’s donation of the first 787-8 Dreamliner flight test airplane to Centrair International Airport in Nagoya.

“It is fitting that we bring Boeing’s first-ever 787 Dreamliner, also known as ZA001, back home to Nagoya, the heart of Japan’s aerospace industry,” said George Maffeo, president, Boeing Japan.

“Many of our partners here spent countless hours to develop and produce the 787 Dreamliner’s airframe structure and Centrair was with us from the very start of the journey. ZA001 carried all of our dreams and aspirations, and has grown to symbolize the storied partnership between Boeing and Japan’s outstanding aerospace industry.”

“We are honored to be selected by Boeing to house the permanent display of the world’s first-ever 787 Dreamliner,” said Masanao Tomozoe, president and CEO, Central Japan International Airport Co., Ltd. “This milestone will allow us to significantly contribute to the aerospace community as well as the Greater Nagoya region by spurring the imagination and interest of future aviation pioneers here in Japan.”

ZA001 is the last of three original flight test 787-8s Boeing has donated to inspire future generations, communities and aviation enthusiasts around the world. Previously, Boeing donated ZA002 to the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona and ZA003 to the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

ZA001 first flew on December 15, 2009, beginning what would become a six-airplane flight test and certification program for the 787-8. ZA001 performed a variety of ground and flight tests with a focus on aerodynamics, flight controls and systems performance.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner is the first in a family of technologically advanced, super-efficient airplanes with new passenger-pleasing features. With its unmatched fuel efficiency and environmental performance โ€“ 20 percent less fuel and emissions than the airplanes it replaces โ€“ the 787 has saved more than 2 billion pounds of fuel since entering service in 2011.Sixty customers from around the world have ordered more than 1,100 Dreamliners, making it the fastest selling twin-aisle airplane in Boeing history. In Japan, ANA and Japan Airlines have ordered a combined 128 787 Dreamliners โ€“ marking the largest customer base of 787s in the world.

Central Japan International Airport (Centrair) is a 24-hour international hub airport located on a man-made island off the coast of Nagoya. Centrair serves 30 cities around the world with 300 weekly departures, as well as major cities in Japan with 80 flights per day. In 2015, the airport celebrated its 10th year of operations and was also awarded the prestigious “Best Regional Airport in the World” accolade by Skytrax.

Centrair is a transport hub for the local aerospace and automotive industries. It is the only airport in the world from which both the 787 main wing and fuselage sections are flown to Boeing’s final assembly plants in the U.S. on the Dreamlifter.
