Emirates to bring the Airbus A380 to Milan Malpensa starting on December 1

Emirates (Dubai) will grow its services to and from Milan with the upgrade of one of its daily Boeing 777-300 services to an Airbus A380 from December 1. This will be the first ever permanently scheduled A380 service to Milan Malpensa Airport.

Bringing the A380 onto one of Emiratesโ€™ three daily Milan services will mean an increase in capacity of almost 38%. The triple-daily service connecting Dubai to Milan is currently operated with a mix of Boeing 777-300 and 777-300 ER aircraft. One of these services continues onward to New York.

Emirates currently operates 53 Airbus A380s.

The A380 service will operate daily as flight EK 91, departing Dubai at 1540 and arriving at Milan Malpensa airport at 1935. The return flight, EK 92, departs Milan at 2120 and arrives in Dubai at 0625 the next day.

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport welcomes the first Airbus A380 of Emirates

Emirates A380 arrives at DFW

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has welcomed the first arrival of an Emirates (Dubai) Airbus A380. The airport issued this statement:

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport today (October 1) welcomed the start of Emirates Airbus A380 daily service to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The arriving Emirates A380 aircraft was met with a traditional DFW Airport “shower of affection” water cannon salute (above) from the Airport’s Department of Public Safety, as well as local dignitaries.

Emirates, the largest airline in the Middle East and one of the fastest growing carriers in the world, became the first airline to offer direct service from DFW to the Middle East in 2012. The transition from Boeing 777-200 aircraft to the double-decker Airbus A380-800 means that Emirates is increasing its capacity on the DFW to Dubai route by over 80 percent.

DFW airline partners offer nonstop service to 55 international destinations and 147 cities in the United States, with every major city in the continental U.S., Canada and Mexico within a four-hour flight.

DFW has reconfigured two gates, namely D15 and D16, to simultaneously accommodate A380 flights while on the ground, utilizing a total of three boarding bridges. DFW Airport also completed modifications to the airfield, specifically ramps and taxiways in order to accommodate A380 service, and the Airport has installed a new seating configuration which doubles the seating capacity in the Terminal D15/D16 gate waiting area.

American files to fly nonstop from Dallas/Fort Worth to Beijing, China

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) has filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for the right to operate new service from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) beginning next summer. Once approved, the new route will be the first nonstop flight connecting Beijing and Dallas/Fort Worth.

The new service between Dallas/Fort Worth and Beijing will be operated with a Boeing 777-200 ER aircraft. American is retrofitting its entire fleet of 777-200 ERs to include fully lie-flat Business Class seats, all with aisle access; new seats in the Main Cabin; in-seat entertainment; and international Wi-Fi capability. The new fully lie-flat Business Class seats on American’s 777-200 ERs offer customers the largest space of any 777 Business Class seat offered by any U.S. carrier.

The new flight from DFW will also complement American’s existing service from Chicago (O’Hare) to Beijing and will be American’s 11th route between the U.S. and Asia. Since 2013, American has added new nonstop flights connecting Hong Kong, Seoul and Shanghai to DFW, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to expanding and strengthening its presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

This route will be operated as part of American’s joint business agreement with fellow oneworldยฎ alliance member Japan Airlines. Through oneworld member airlines and their affiliates, American’s customers have access to nearly 150 destinations within Asia.

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport today opens 10 new gates for American Eagle in Terminal B

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) today unveiled a total of ten new gates and a new concourse extension at Terminal B. The new gates, B30-B39 (see map below), will be used to serve American Eagle regional jet flights. The concourse and new gates are part of DFW’s ongoing Terminal Renewal and Improvement Program (TRIP), a multi-year, $2.3 billion capital improvement program to redefine the Airport’s four original terminals which first opened in 1974.

DFW logo

“These new gates give DFW Airport additional capacity for hosting flights in Terminal B, and a beautiful new space for customers to enjoy as they await their flights,” said Sean Donohue, CEO of DFW Airport. “We’ve also added some very nice customer touches in the new concourse, including a comfort zone seating area, charging stations, and of course, our fast and free WiFi.”

The new concourse at Terminal B offers an additional 20,000 square feet of gate space for customers. The entrance to the new concourse is adjacent to a Skylink people mover station for fast and efficient connections to any gate at DFW. The new concourse construction replaced one gate at Terminal B, for an overall net gain of nine gates to DFW.

With the addition of the ten gates in the new concourse at Terminal B, DFW now has a total of 164 gates across its five terminals. It is the first new terminal concourse to open at DFW since the grand opening of Terminal D in July of 2005.

TRIP is redefining DFW Airport for the next generation of air travel customers, with all new glass, floors and finishes, along with updated technology and renewed infrastructure. Under TRIP, renovation work continues in other parts of Terminal B, as well as in Terminals A and E.

QANTAS Airways to bring the Airbus A380 to Dallas/Fort Worth

QANTAS Airways (Sydney) has announced that its Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to Sydney service will be served with the Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft starting on September 29. The upgrade to the Airbus A380 will mean that the longest scheduled commercial flight in the world will now be served by the largest passenger jet in the world.

Given the additional range of the A380, the QANTAS DFW to Australia service will now operate nonstop to Sydney rather than via Brisbane. The new A380 service will operate six flights per week between Dallas/Fort Worth and Sydney (every day except Tuesdays), representing a net increase of seats on the route by 10 percent per week.

The announcement means DFW will host Airbus A380 flights from two carriers, the other being Emirates Airline, starting in the fall. Those aircraft will utilize two gates, D15 and D16, and will be served utilizing three passenger jet bridges.

DFW Airport is currently finalizing preparations for the arrival of the A380 with the construction of a second level jet bridge in Terminal D and modifications to the airfield, ramps and taxiways. Terminal D opened in 2005 with A380 capabilities already built into its design, so the final additions to make DFW ready for the A380 are relatively minor.

DFW offers nonstop service to 56 international destinations and 147 cities in the U.S. with every major city in the U.S., Canada and Mexico within a four-hour flight. For Qantas customers, DFW provides the best routing to more than 100 destinations in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
