World Airways extends MD-11 freighter contract with Etihad Crystal Cargo

World Airways (Atlanta) has extended a contract with Etihad Crystal Cargo (Abu Dhabi) to provide two MD-11 cargo aircraft into 2011, operating on scheduled routes to Europe, Asia and Africa.

Etihad introduced all-cargo services in February 2005. It currently operates a fleet of regional freighter aircraft including two Airbus A300-600RF aircraft and its first A330F.

Lufthansa Cargo McDonnell Douglas MD-11F D-ALCQ crashes at Riyadh

Lufthansa Cargo’s (Frankfurt) McDonnell Douglas MD-11F D-ALCQ (msn 48431) crashed on landing at Riyadh today (July 27). The freighter caught on fire as it was landing, crashed and split into two sections. The pilot and the first officer were slightly injured and were taken to the hospital.

World Airways expands its contract with ANA-Allied Air Cargo

World Airways (Atlanta) has expanded its cooperation with ANA-Allied Air Cargo to include a second MD-11F aircraft for service through December 2011 between Europe and various cities in Africa. World Airways, a subsidiary of Global Aviation Holdings, Inc., began operating aircraft for ANA-Allied Air in October 2008.

Allied Air is a Nigerian all-cargo airline that operates four Boeing 727 freighters in addition to the two MD-11 freighters leased from World Airways. Allied works closely with its worldwide sales agent, ANA Aviation Services, to provide scheduled flights and ad hoc charter services. Allied Air carries more than 400 tons per week of fresh flowers and vegetables from bothย Kenyaย andย Ugandaย to the major European markets in the Netherlands and theย United Kingdom.

FedEx Corporation reports higher fourth quarter and full year earnings

FedEx Corporation (Memphis) reported fourth quarter net income of $419 million, up from last yearโ€™s net loss of $876 million.

For the fiscal full year, net income of $1.18 billion was reported, up from last yearโ€™s $98 million.

Air France-KLM loss grows in fourth quarter and the fiscal year

Air France (Paris) and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (Amsterdam) reported its net loss widened in the fourth quarter as the global economic crisis hammered freight and passenger traffic, resulting in its biggest loss in more than 15 years.

Europe’s largest airline group reported a net loss of $859 million for the three months ending on March 31
