Jet2 to add East Midlands-Paris CDG flights on April 3, 2014

Jet2 (Jet2.com) (East Midlands) will add a new route from its East Midlands base to Paris (CDG) starting on April 3, 2014 according to Airline Route. The new route four days a week with Boeing 737-300s.

Airberlin and Jat Airways begin code sharing on August 1

Airberlin (airberlin.com) (Berlin) and Jat Airways (Belgrade), the national airline of the Republic of Serbia, will offer their passengers selected flights under shared flight numbers, subject to government approvals. The codeshare agreement is valid for flights from August 1, 2013.

Under the agreement, Airberlin will offer the nonstop Jat Airways flights between Belgrade and Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Stuttgart under an AB flight number, thereby expanding their route range in South East Europe.

In return, Jat Airways passengers will be able to connect from Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Stuttgart to numerous Airberlin German domestic flights. From Airberlinโ€™s hub in Berlin there will be further codeshare flights to prime destinations in Northern Europe to cities such as Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm.

ALC to lease one Boeing 737-700 and two ATR 72-600s to Jettime

Air Lease Corporation (ALC) (Los Angeles) announced today long term lease agreements with Jettime (Copenhagen) for one Boeing 737-700 aircraft scheduled for delivery in November 2013, and two new ATR 72-600sย scheduled for delivery in April and May 2014.

The ATR 72-600 will be a new type for the charter airline.

Virgin Australia starts its new code share agreement with Airberlin

Virgin Australia Airlines (Brisbane) has announced a reciprocal code share and frequent flyer agreement with Airberlin (Berlin), Germanyโ€™s second largest airline.

The code share flights commence on August 1, 2013, subject to government approval, Virgin Australia will code share on Airberlinโ€™s daily direct services from Abu Dhabi to Dusseldorf and Berlin. Airberlin will also code share on Virgin Australiaโ€™s Abu Dhabi to Sydney service, its Phuket to Perth service and on nine of its domestic services within Australia.

As part of the new agreement, members of Virgin Australiaโ€™s loyalty program Velocity Frequent Flyer and Airberlinโ€™s top bonus program will receive reciprocal benefits, with the ability to earn and redeem Points or miles, regardless of which airline is operating the flight.

Airberlin operates daily direct services between Abu Dhabi and Berlin and between Abu Dhabi and Dusseldorf. The Airbus A330-200 operated services offer Full Flat seats with a massage function and 15 inch LED monitors in Business Class ensuring a superior level of comfort. In Economy Class, Airberlin offer new seats with anti-thrombosis cushions, a complimentary drinks service and a new in-seat entertainment system.

Norwegian’s second quarter profit soars to $45.6 million

Norwegian Air Shuttle (Norwegian.com) (Oslo) reported a profit before taxes of $45.6 million for the second quarter. The company issued this statement:

Norwegian today reported a profit before tax (EBT) of 277 million NOK for the second quarter of 2012. This is an improvement of 152 million Norwegian kroner, compared with the same period last year. The quarter was marked by significant cost reduction, strong output growth and fully booked flight. Even with startup costs for long-range effort and new bases in Europe reduces costs, something that is crucial to ensure the company’s competitiveness in the future.

Norwegian had a turnover of NOK 4 billion in the second quarter, an increase of 27 percent compared to the same quarter last year. Earnings before tax (EBT) amounted to 277 MNOK 152 million Norwegian crowns better than in 2012. Number of passengers flew with Norwegian in the second quarter amounted to 5.5 million, over 1 million more than the same period last year and an increase of 23 percent. The traffic growth (RPK) increased sharply to 35 percent, which is linked to every Norwegian passengers now fly much longer than they did a year ago. Cost reduction is at 9 percent.

Growth in all markets

The figures also show a strong production growth, with an increase of 34 percent (ASK). Growth is consistently in all markets. Even with a solid growth in capacity is the load factor high. The load factor for the second quarter was 77 percent, 1 percentage point higher than in the same period last year. The Norwegian’s long-range initiatives, Norwegian has had a load factor of 96 percent. The new base at London Gatwick already has a 85 percent load factor on the newly opened Mediterranean routes.

“It has been a good quarter for Norwegian where we see clear results on the choices the company has made. We finally got started with long-haul flights and we have opened a new base in London. At the same time, we have managed to reduce our costs, which is essential in such a competitive industry as the airline industry”, said Norwegian’s CEO Bjorn Kjos.

Go2Sky starts operations from Bratislava, Slovakia

Go2Sky (Bratislava) is a new airline in Slovakia based at Milan Rastislav Stefanik Airport in Bratislava, Go2Sky provides non-scheduled transportation of passengers, cargo and mail. The new carrier is being headed by pilot and investor Daniel Ferjancek, together with two partners. Ferjancek was previously a shareholder in another Slovakian charter carrier, AirExplore, which continues to operate.
The carrier signed a lease agreement with Triton Aviation Ireland Limited for one Boeing 737-400 in March 2013. The pictured Boeing 737-4Q8 registered OM-GTA (msn 24332) was delivered onย June 30. It was previously operated by Chinaโ€™s Hainan Airlines and has undergone a C check and refurbishment. It is operated in a single-class, 168-seat configuration.
Go2Sky is operating this aircraft until mid-September to Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY) (near Milan) on behalf of Mistral Air.
The slogan of the airline is “To the Sky and Beyond”.

Azerbaijan Airlines (Baku) on July 2 took delivery of its first Embraer 190.

EasyJet to add five new routes in the winter schedule

EasyJet (UK) (easyJet.com) (London-Luton)ย has today added a further five routes to its flight schedule making 190,000 more seats available for its passengers.

The new routes will take off from October 17, 2013.

The schedule additions include a new route to the Romanian capital of Bucharest, Larnaca in Cyprus, Venice, Lyon and Tenerife. The routes will fly from across easyJetโ€™s UK bases including London Gatwick, London Luton, Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle.

ALC to lease two Airbus A321-200s with Sharklets to Monarch Airlines

Air Lease Corporation (Los Angeles) has announced long term lease agreements with Monarch Airlines (London-Luton) for two new Airbus A321-200ย aircraft with Sharklets and powered by IAE V2533 engines. Both aircraft are scheduled for delivery in April and May of 2015.

The new Germanwings is launched today

Germanwings (2nd) (Cologne/Bonn) as a subsidiary of Lufthansa, relaunched operations today (July 1) as a re-invented airline, taking over many former Lufthansa routes and offering three levels of fares and services.
