Singapore Airlines (Singapore) will introduce the Airbus A380 on the SIN-Melbourne route on September 29.

AeroLogic commences cargo operations

AeroLogic (Leipzig/Halle), the joint cargo airline of DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo, yesterday (June 19) launched operations after receiving its AOC. The airline will initially serve the route Leipzig – Bahrain – Singapore – Delhi – Leipzig on weekdays and the route Leipzig – Tashkent – Hong Kong – Tashkent – Leipzig on weekends. By 2010, the airline will gradually expand the network to offer new direct connections to most of Asia’s major metropolitan areas.

The new airline will operate with eight leased new Boeing 777F freighters, the first four of which are expected to be delivered this year. The 777F has a maximum payload capacity of 103 tons and can fly distances of over 9000 km, which enables non-stop flights from AeroLogic’s home base of Leipzig/Halle to key Asian growth markets.

Air France (Paris) took delivery of the SkyTeam decorated Boeing 777-328 ER F-GZNE (msn 37432) on June 10.

Megantara Air shuts down in Indonesia

Megantara Air (Jakarta) shut down all operations in early May 2009. Cargo operations began in October 2007 on the Jakarta-Singapore route for DHL International with a single Boeing 727-200F (PK-TMA). A 737-200F (PK-TME) was added in September 2007.

Biman to lease four Boeing 777-200s

Biman Bangladesh Airlines (Dhaka) will lease two Boeing 777-200s from Cathay Pacific Airways (Hong Kong) and two 777-200s from SIngapore Airlines (Singapore) as an interim measure. The lease will be for three years with the first delivery in either May or June 2009. This will permit the company to phase out its four old McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30s. The flag carrier has four new 463-seat Boeing 777-300 ERs on order (the first is due in July 2013) as well as four 787-8 Dreamliners.

QANTAS to raise stake in Jetstar Asia/Valuair

QANTAS Airways (Sydney) has announced it will increase its share in Jetstar Asia (Singapore) and Valuair (Singapore) from 45 percent to 49 percent through a new holding company (Newstar). Choo Teck Wong, a businessman in Singapore, will hold the remaining 51 percent through his holding company (Westbrook).

Garuda Indonesia leases eight 737-800s

Garuda Indonesia Airways (Jakarta) has leased eight Boeing 737-800s from DAE Capital with the first deliveries starting in June 2009. The transaction is actually a sale and leaseback and the aircraft are the first eight of an order for 50 aircraft ordered by Garuda last year.
