ANA finalizes its order for three Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners

ANA 787-10 (82)(Flt)(Boeing)(LR)

ANA-All Nippon Airways (Tokyo) and Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) have finalized an order for three 787-10 Dreamliners, valued at approximately $900 million at list prices. With this order, originally announced as a commitment in January 2015, ANA becomes Boeing’s newest 787-10 customer and first airline in Asia to operate the entire family of 787 Dreamliners.

ANA, the launch customer of the 787, currently operates the world’s largest 787 fleet with 34 Dreamliners. The airline will further expand their future fleet with an additional 49 787s on order, leveraging the added efficiency and full flexibility of the complete 787 family.

The 787-10 is the third and longest member of the super-efficient 787 family. With its greater passenger and cargo capacity, high degree of commonality and passenger-pleasing features, the 787-10 will complement the family while setting a new benchmark for fuel efficiency and operating economics.

The 787-10 will be 25 to 30 percent more efficient than the airplanes it replaces and more than 10 percent better than anything offered by the competition for the future.

Here is a new app: ANA introduces a smartphone app to help you relax during takeoff!

ANA Takeoff App

ANA-All Nippon Airways (Tokyo) has introduced a new smartphone app to help you relax during the takeoff. Here is the official release:

A new survey, commissioned by All Nippon Airways (ANA) for the US market, has found that 72% of U.S. airline passengers have felt anxious about flying before. The most anxious flyers find takeoff to be the most stress-inducing part of the journey (68%), which is why Japanโ€™s largest airline, ANA, developed โ€˜ANA Takeoff Modeโ€™, specifically designed to relax and take peopleโ€™s minds off the takeoff. The app can be downloaded for free in the Apple App store here: CLICK HERE

#ANA Launches New Smartphone App Designed to Relax Flyers During Takeoff

The โ€˜ANA Takeoff Modeโ€™ app takes the form of a simple but absorbing puzzle where users have to maneuver a ball on screen to collect points, with relaxing music playing in the background. What really makes the app truly unique; however, is that it measures the amplitude and frequency response of the ambient noise inside the aircraft cabin. When the aircraftโ€™s engines are at full throttle during takeoff, the audio profile triggers a special animation and message for the user. (The surrounding environment may affect how the app detects takeoff.)

The puzzle aspect of the game should prove particularly appealing. In the ANA survey, puzzle games ranked second only to listening to music when it came to ways that passengers relaxed while flying (61% of people relax by listening to music; 56% by playing puzzle games). Reading, watching TV and falling asleep came in not far behind (54%, 48% and 46% respectively).

The โ€˜ANA Takeoff Modeโ€™ is one of the first smartphones apps to take advantage of the U.S. Department of Transportationโ€™s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)โ€™s announcement on October 31, 2013 that airlines can safely expand passenger use of Portable Electronic Devices during all phases of flight.

โ€œANA offers a unique flight experience with staff paying attention to even the smallest detail to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable flight for all our customers. Consideration has gone into every stage of the passenger journey, from our flagship lounges in Tokyo to our award winning โ€˜Connoisseursโ€™ inflight dining experience. Now we hope that the โ€˜ANA Takeoff Modeโ€™ will ease and relax flyers, allowing them to enjoy their flight with ANA from the very beginning.โ€ said Masaki Yokai, VP Marketing & Sales The Americas.

Additional key findings from the ANA survey:

Women are about twice as likely to be anxious about flying

Of the subgroup who almost always get anxious about flying, 63% are women, 37% men

Older people (45 yrs+) are much calmer about flying than younger people (18-44yrs)

Of the always anxious group 66% are younger than 45 yrs old

Of the calm group 47% are younger than 45 yrs old

Anxious flyers are most concerned about takeoff (68%), whereas people who get stressed about flying less frequently find the thought of turbulence more anxiety inducing (60%)

80% of people surveyed play puzzle games

97% of these people find such games to be relaxing

46% of people say they find flying during Thanksgiving or Christmas period more stressful than other times of the year

Top reasons for this extra stress are crowded airports (69%) and delayed flights (63%)

Information on the survey:

ANA commissioned an online survey of 1,000 air travelers from across the U.S. The survey was fielded from October 29 to November 2, 2014.

ANA announces the first Boeing 787-9 revenue flights on August 7

ANA (All Nippon Airways) (Tokyo) announced that it will launch scheduled services to three domestic Japanese destinations using the latest stretched version of the Boeing Dreamliner, the 787-9, from August 7. The plane, in 395-seat configuration, will be introduced progressively on routes between Tokyoโ€™s Haneda Airport and Fukuoka, Osaka (Itami) and Matsuyama as ANA becomes the first airline in the world to operate the scheduled flight of 787-9.

In addition to the first 787-9 going into service in August, ANA is scheduled to take delivery of a further two aircraft in the fiscal year ending March 2015. For the launch of international services, ANA has opted for the 215-seat version of the long-range aircraft – 46 seats more than the existing Boeing 787-8 currently used on international long-haul routes.

The 787-9 is engineered for greater fuel economy than 787-8, while also ensuring approximately 20% more seating and cargo capacity and will help ANA achieve expansion into new markets.

ANA will focus on utilizing the 395-seat version of the 787-9 on major domestic routes to maximize passenger numbers, while also lowering operational costs.

On ANAโ€™s international network, the plan is to utilize the 787-9 to increase capacity on some long-haul routes to Europe, North America and other key destinations which are at present served by the smaller 787-8 or to replace larger aircraft currently operating the routes. This will help ANA to maximize commercial returns, stabilize operating costs and enhance its ability to win more passengers and bigger cargo demand.

ANA is determined to take maximum advantage of the competitive edge provided by the outstanding fuel efficiency of the Boeing 787 to accelerate its growth and make the airline stronger.
