China Eastern Airlines takes delivery of its first Boeing 777-300 ER, introduces a new simplified livery

China Eastern Airlines (Shanghai) and Boeing (Chicago and Seattle) are celebrating the delivery of the airline’s first 777-300 ER. The new airplane is the first of 20 777-300 ERs China Eastern has on order. The pictured Boeing 777-39P ER B-2001 (msn 43269) was handed over yesterday (September 24).

China Eastern will operate 777-300 ERs on routes between China and North America, which will be a major market for China Eastern over the next three years. The carrier plans to open new routes to North America and also boost frequencies on existing routes from Shanghai to Los Angeles, New York (JFK), San Francisco, Vancouver and Toronto (Pearson). Starting in November, the carrier will deploy its first 777-300 ER on services to Los Angeles and New York (JFK).

China Eastern debuted this new simplified livery on the new 777-300 ER โ€“ a change to its 25-year old livery. The new look features an updated logo โ€“ a swallow consisting of two capital letters, C and E, which represent the carrier’s name.

China Eastern has configured its new 777-300 ER to feature three distinct cabins. Passengers will find six first class suits, 52 business class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration and 258 economy seats in a 3-4-3 configuration.

The 777-300 ER is equipped with the world’s most powerful GE90-115B commercial jet engine, and can travel, with a standard three class configuration, a maximum range of 7,825 nautical miles (14,490 kilometers).

China Eastern has a fleet of 500 long-haul and short-haul airplanes with an average age of less than seven years, China Eastern serves nearly 80 million travelers annually and ranks among the world’s top five airlines in terms of passenger transportation volume.

Air Lease 777-300ER and 737 MAX 8 (Boeing)(LRW)

Boeing (Chicago and Seattle) and Air Lease Corporation (ALC) (Los Angeles) announced today an order for 26 airplanes โ€“ six 777-300 ER (Extended Range) and reconfirmed 20 737 MAX 8 airplanes, valued at $3.9 billion at current list prices.

This 737 MAX order for 20 airplanes, valued at more than $2 billion at current list prices, brings Air Lease Corporation’s combined orders for the 737 MAX to 104 airplanes. The 777-300 ER order, valued at more than $1.9 billion at current list prices, marks the 100th 777 order from ALC Chairman and CEO Steven Udvar-Hazy during his career in the industry.

The 737 MAX incorporates the latest-technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market. The 737 MAX 8 provides customers with more flexibility and cost efficiency than the competition in the heart of the single-aisle market. Airlines operating the 737 MAX will see an 8 percent operating cost per seat advantage over tomorrow’s competition. The 737 MAX has surpassed 2,000 orders from 42 customers, the fastest selling airplane in history.

American to deploy the Boeing 777-300 ER to London Heathrow in February

American’s First Class product on the new Boeing 777-323 ER.

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) has announced Los Angeles โ€“ London Heathrow as the next route to feature its new Boeing 777-300 ER.

American’s 777-300 ERs will be configured as three-class aircraft and will include fully lie-flat First and Business Class seats with direct aisle access, Main Cabin Extra, inflight entertainment at every seat, and Wi-Fi capability to keep customers connected while traveling internationally. American previously announced that customers traveling between Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Sao Paulo (GRU) will be the first to experience the newest addition to American’s fleet in December 2012. In February 2013 the aircraft will fly to London Heathrow from both Dallas/Fort Worth and New York JFK.

Below is the schedule for the new 777-300ER LAX-LHR routes that will appear in global distribution systems this week.

Market Flight Frequency Date
Los Angeles (LAX) โ€“ London Heathrow (LHR) AA136/AA137 Daily June 1, 2013

The three-class cabin configuration in the new 777-300 ERs will provide American with more customer and cargo capacity than any other aircraft in its fleet today. American will be the first airline to use a dramatic archway and ceiling treatment on the 777-300 ER to create a feeling of spaciousness, and customers will be welcomed into the aircraft by unique mood lighting. A walk-up bar in the premium cabin stocked with snacks and refreshments will be a first for any U.S. airline and adds another unique element of luxury to the 777-300 ER. Entertainment options include up to 120 movies, more than 150 TV programs and more than 350 audio selections that will be offered throughout the aircraft. Every seat will feature individual 110-volt AC power outlets and USB jacks for charging personal electronic devices.

American is the first U.S. airline to order and take delivery of the Boeing 777-300 ER. American anticipates taking delivery of 10 Boeing 777-300 ERs beginning in December 2012. ย The 777-300 ERs will complement American’s fleet by offering additional network flexibility in the future, as well as providing increased efficiency due to better seat mile economics and performance characteristics.

The question still remains, will AA introduce a long-overdue brand refresh with the first stretched Triple Seven?
