The SACAA issues its final report on the Nationwide Airlines Boeing 737-200 engine detachment incident

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) issued its final report on the engine detachment incident of November 7, 2007 involving Nationwide Airlines’ Boeing 737-230 ZS-OEZ (msn 22118).

The SACAA determined the probable cause:

“The right-hand engine separated from the aircraft due to the failure of the aft cone bolt as a result of a pre-existing fatigue crack which was most likely caused by incorrect installation of the cone bolt.”

Airberlin Boeing 737-800 aborts takeoff, runs off the runway at Dortmund

Airberlin (Berlin-Tegel) had an accident at Dortmund this morning (January 3). Boeing 737-86J D-ABKF (msn 37745) with 165 passengers and six crew members aborted its takeoff to Las Palmas and slid off the end of the runway. There were no injuries.

Kiunga Aviation Cessna 185E P2-MJL crashes in Papua New Guinea, six passengers killed

Kiunga Aviation (Lae) Cessna 185E P2-MJL (msn 01947) crashed yesterday (December 30) in Marobe Province. Six passengers were killed in the accident.

American Airlines Boeing 737-823 N977AN (msn 29550) MIA (overshoots the runway at Kingston)

American Airlines’ (Dallas/Fort Worth) Boeing 737-823 N977AN (msn 29550) as flight AA 331 from Washington (Reagan National) to Kingston, Jamaica via the Miami hub overshot the runway at KIN on landing with 148 passengers and six crew members in a heavy rainstorm late last night. The aircraft is substantially damaged (a possible insurance write off).

Airlink Embraer ERJ 135 overruns the runway at George

Airlink (Johannesburg) suffered through another accident yesterday (December 7) at George (South Africa). Embraer ERJ 135 ZS-SJW (msn 145423) overran the wet runway on landing and crashed through the security fence ending up on a road. The regional jet was operating flight SA 8625. There were only minor injuries.

Seair Seaplanes’ Beaver C-GTMC crashes in Gulf Islands

Seair Seaplanes’ (Vancouver) de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Mk. 1 Beaver C-GTMC (msn 1171) crashed on takeoff from Lyall Harbour (Satura Island, Gulf Islands, BC) on November 29. Unfortunately six people died in the tragic crash.

CAA’s McDonnell Douglas DC-9-82 9Q-CAB runs off the runway at Goma, 20 hurt

Compagnie Africaine d’Aviation-CAA’s (Kinshasa) McDonnell Douglas DC-9-82 (MD-82) 9Q-CAB (msn 49702) overran the runway at Goma yesterday (November 19) after arriving from Kinshasa. The airliner crashed into a lava field. At least 20 people were injured in the accident.

Yemenia’s crashed Airbus A310 FDR found

Yemenia’s (Yemen Airways) (Sana’a) Airbus A310-304 7O-ADJ (msn 535) flight data recorder (FDR) has been founded in the Indian Ocean in a slightly damaged condition.

Bangkok Air ATR 72 runs off Koh Samui runway

Bangkok Air (Bangkok) lost its ATR 72-212A (ATR 72-500) HS-PGL (msn 670) in an accident today (August 4) on the resort island of Koh Samui in Thailand. At least one person is dead (the captain) and seven others are injured. The ATR was landing in a rain storm after arriving from Krabi. The airliner ran off the runway crashing into an old (unmanned) control tower.
