Air France-KLM Group 2014 profit falls nearly 15% due mainly to the pilot strike

Air France-KLM Group (Air France) (KLM) (Paris and Amsterdam) reported its pre-tax 2014 earnings fell to 1.59 billion euros ($1.81 billion) from 1.86 billion euros ($2.1 billion) for the previous year. As a result, the group is delaying deliveries of aircraft for both Air France and KLM. Air France will also maintain its Airbus A380 fleet at 10 aircraft and delay taking delivery of the last two.

Transavia orders 17 Boeing Next-Generation 737-800s

Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) and Transavia Company (Transavia Airlines and Transavia France), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Air France KLM Group, today announced an order for 17 Next-Generation 737-800s, including options for three additional airplanes. The order, valued at $1.6 billion at current list prices, was previously booked and attributed to an unidentified customer on the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website.

The order will significantly support the growth of Transavia’s operations from France and the Netherlands. The airline currently has a combined all-Boeing fleet of 45 Next-Generation 737s.

Air France and KLM are now funneling more routes to its two main subsidiaries.

Transavia Company has six bases, with Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport and Paris-Orly Airport as its main hubs, serving 110 destinations in Europe and North Africa. Passenger numbers reached 10 million in 2014.

American Airlines’ traffic declines in January, revises its guidance for the first quarter

American Airlines Group (American Airlines and US Airways) (Dallas/Fort Worth) today reported its January 2015 traffic results.

American Airlines Group’s total revenue passenger miles (RPMs) for the month were 16.8 billion, down 2.8 percent versus January 2014. Total capacity was 21.5 billion available seat miles (ASMs), down 0.2 percent versus January 2014. Total passenger load factor was 78.2 percent for the month of January, down 2.1 percentage points versus January 2014.

Based on one month of actual data and two months of forecast, the Company continues to expect its first quarter 2015 consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM) to be down approximately two percent to four percent. Due to the recent rise in fuel prices, the Company is currently forecasting its first quarter fuel price to be approximately 10 cents higher than its previous guidance. The Company’s current estimate for first quarter fuel price is $1.81 to $1.86 per gallon versus its previous estimate of $1.71 to $1.76 per gallon. As a result, the Company now expects its first quarter pretax margin excluding special items to be approximately 12 percent to 14 percent versus its previous guidance of 13 percent to 15 percent.

Centurion Cargo to return to Amsterdam

Centurion Cargo (Miami) will restore the Miami-Amsterdam route on February 19 with Boeing 747-400F freighters per Cargo Facts. The carrier dropped its only European route last year. The company is restoring services and redeploying its previously parked aircraft.

KLM to introduce the first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on October 26

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (Amsterdam) is planning to introduce the new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the Amsterdam-Abu Dhabi-Bahrain route on October 26 per Luchvaart News.

Air France-KLM Group has 25 787-9s on order.

KLM to launch new routes to Belfast, Krakow and Montpellier

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (Amsterdam) will expand its medium-haul network with three new destinations. KLM will launch a new scheduled service to Belfast, Krakow, and Montpellier. These new services will be part of KLMโ€™s new summer schedule and will operate on a daily basis as from May 18, 2015.

Belfast will be the first city in Northern Ireland which is directly served by KLM and the 14th destination within the United Kingdom. KLM will operate on George Best Belfast City Airport.

Next to Warsaw, Krakow will be the second destination within Poland which is directly served by KLM.

Montpellier will be the sixth destination within France which is directly served by KLM. Air France is already operating into Montpellier out of both Parisian airports, Charles de Gaulle and Orly.

All flights will be operated by KLM Cityhopper.

Qatar Airways finalizes its order for four Boeing 777 freighters

Qatar Airways (Doha) and Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) have finalized an order for four 777 Freighters, valued at $1.24 billion at current list prices. The airline also has purchase rights for four additional airplanes, which when exercised will bring the combined value to $2.46 billion.

Qatar Airways first announced an intent to order the four 777 Freighters at the 2014 Farnborough Airshow.

Qatar Airways currently operates a fleet of 37 Boeing 777-300E Rs (Extended Range) and 777-200 LRs (Longer Range), in addition to seven 777 Freighters.

The 777 Freighter is capable of flying 4,900 nautical miles (9,070 kilometers) with a full payload and general cargo market densities, making it the world’s longest-range twin-engine freighter.

Global air freight traffic is forecast to grow at an annual rate of 4.7 percent, doubling the cargo traffic over the next 20 years, according to the Boeing World Air Cargo Forecast released in October.

Qatar Airways is coming to Amsterdam

Qatar Airways (Doha) has revealed its first new destination in 2015, to the capital city of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, starting from June 16.

The Doha โ€“ Amsterdam route will operate with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, offering 254 seats configured in two classes, with 22 fully-flat-bed seats in Business Class and 232 in Economy Class.

Flying nonstop, the total journey time between Doha and Amsterdam is six hours and 35 minutes.

The daily flights will be departing from Doha in the morning, arriving into Amsterdam in early afternoon, with return flights to Doha departing in the late afternoon.
