Panalpina sells its 12% share of Luxair

Panalpina (Basel) has sold its 12.09 percent share of Luxair-Luxembourg Airlines (Luxembourg). The government of Luxembourg purchased the shares in June according to this report by Handelszeitung.

Aer Lingus wants to fly domestic routes in the United Kingdom

Aer Lingus (Dublin) is planning to launch a domestic route in the United Kingdom between London (Heathrow) and Edinburgh according to the Irish Independent. The route is up for grabs after British Airways (London) took over bmi (East Midlands) and was forced to give up the appropriate LHR slots as ordered by the European Commission. Virgin Atlantic Airways (London) has also expressed an interest in serving the UK domestic route. The projected expansion comes after Ryanair (Dublin), which owns 29.8 percent of the Aer Lingus stock, launched its hostile bid to take control of the Irish carrier.

In other news,ย Aer Lingus today announced its schedule for winter 2012 along with the addition of six new routes and increased frequencies.

Dublin to Verona and Stockholm and Cork to Brussels are set to continue right throughout the winter, owing to their continued popularity. Other exciting destinations on offer include Copenhagen, Bordeaux and Venice.

Frequencies will be increased on a further eight popular routes such as Berlin, Vienna and Amsterdam. There will also be extra flights to Lanzarote and Tenerife which will be music to the ears of those seeking out a winter sunshine holiday in the Canary Islands.

El Al starts Tel Aviv-Eilat flights with Boeing 737-700s

El Al Israel Airlines (Tel Aviv) has launched the Tel Aviv-Eilat domestic route. The airline will operate 17 flights a week (three a day from Sunday to Thursday and one a day on Friday and Saturday) in each direction from Ben Gurionโ€™s domestic terminal. The 55 minute flight will be operated using a Boeing 737-700 with 136 seats. El Al will only charge $11 one-way for UK-bound passengers. The offer is open to customers with return international flights from the UK.

Quantum Air ceases all operations

Quantum Air (La Compania Quantum Air S.A.) (Madrid) on January 26 ceased all operations. The company originallyย started operations on July 4, 2000 withย an initial fleet of three Boeing 717-200s under the AeBal (Aerolineas Baleares) brand. It was initially owned by Spanair (51 percent) and the GAS Group )(49 percent). However AeBal (Spanair Link)ย ceased operations on September 16, 2008 as part of the Spanair restructuring plan. SAS sold the company in January 2009 to Proturin, a Spanish investment company. Inย March 2009, AeBal was reorganized as Quantum Air.

LOT Polish Airlines (Warsaw) in December 2009 introduced this new “sunny face” livery on its Boeing 737-4Q8 SP-LLK (msn 25740). This new color scheme replaces the now dated Centralwings livery worn by the charter division.

Myair.com is shut down by ENAC

Myair (Italy) (myair.com) (My Way Airlines) (Vicenza) on July 21 received notice from the ENAC that its AOC would be suspended by tomorrow (July 24) at midnight. Myair has stopped selling tickets. The company had been given a temporary AOC in June and Italy’s ENAC was hoping the airline would be able to work through its cash problems. However some recent flight cancellation leaving hundreds of passengers stranded left ENAC with no other solution. Myair started its low-fare operations on December 17, 2004.

Airberlin (Berlin-Tegel) has agreed with TUI Travel to cross share stock with its TUIfly (TUIfly.com) (Hanover) subsidiary. Airberlin will purchase up to 20 percent of the TUIfly stock and take over TUIfly’s European inter-city routes. TUIfly’s charter section will remain with TUIfly. ย In turn, TUIfly Travel will purchase up to 20 percent of the stock of Airberlin. This agreement is subject to regulatory approvals. If approved both airlines will keep their brands.
