SkyWest to upgrade United Express service at San Luis Obispo

SkyWest Airlines (St. George, Utah) has issued this statement:

United Express flights from the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport (SBP) are getting an upgrade with new jet service! On April 7. SkyWest Airlines will begin operating daily United Express jet service from SBP to the state’s top destinations: Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO).

The upgraded flights will be onboard the 50-passenger Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ200). Flight schedules will also be adjusted to ensure consistent seat availability, starting with two daily flights to San Francisco and three daily flights to Los Angeles. From there, passengers will be able to easily connect onto nearly 500 daily flights to hundreds of destinations on United’s worldwide network.

Branson AirExpress to add two new routes

Branson AirExpress (Branson, Missouri) is adding two new routes. Branson-Denver (operated by Elite Airways Bombardier CRJ200s) will start on April 16 followed by Branson-Austin (operated by Buzz Airways) on May 8.

These two new routes will complement existing service to Chicago (Midway) and Houston (Hobby), both operated by Buzz Airways BAe Jetstream 41s.

Delta Air Lines to stay at Dallas Love Field for at least another 180 days

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) has secured another reprieve at Dallas’ Love Field. Delta was due to lose their temporary sublease of a Southwest Airlines gate this week. Southwest needs the gate for expansion at DAL. Instead the carrier has secured a 180-day sublease of an United Airlines gate until early July according to Channel 5 in Dallas.

Delta offers Delta Connection service from Love Field to its Atlanta hub.

Ak Bars Aero to end scheduled passenger operations on January 13

Ak Bars Aero (formerly Bugulma Air Enterprise) (Bugulma, Russia) is getting out of the scheduled airline business. The last scheduled flight will be operated on January 13 per Airline Route. The airline mostly operates Bombardier CRJ200 regional jets on the scheduled routes.

The last routes to be operated:

Bugulma – Nizhnevartovsk
Bugulma – St. Petersburg
Nizhnekamsk – Moscow (Domodedovo)
Nizhnekamsk – St. Petersburg

The company was established on July 10, 1953 as Bugulminskoe Aviapredpriyatie. That year operations began between Bugulma and Kazan. The airline was formerly part of Tatarstan Airlines.

SkyWest Airlines to drop all service to St. Cloud, Minnesota

SkyWest Airlines (United Express) (St. George, Utah) has announced it will drop its twice-daily service to St. Cloud Regional Airport in Minnesota in April 2015 due to disappointing traffic. The airline operates United Express service to United Airlines’ (Chicago) O’Hare International Airport (ORD) hub.

IFL Group to acquire its first Bombardier CRJ200 Special Freighter

Bombardier Commercial Aircraft (Montreal and Toronto) has announced an entity owned by‎ the IFL Group (Pontiac) has signed a firm purchase agreement to acquire the first Bombardier CRJ200 SF (Special Freighter) aircraft. The aircraft will join IFL Group’s fleet flying air freight throughout North, Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean.

Prior to being delivered to the IFL Group, the aircraft will be converted to all-cargo configuration by Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) of Miami, Florida, a Bombardier-licensed Third Party Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) Provider for passenger-to-freighter conversions for CRJ100 and CRJ200 aircraft. The freighters include a large cargo door and are marketed by AEI as CRJ100 and CRJ200 Special Freighter (SF) aircraft.

“We are seeing significant interest in the CRJ100 and CRJ200 passenger-to-freighter conversions,” said Robert Convey, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, AEI. “The dependability and affordable operating economics of both platforms make them particularly well suited for regional cargo and feed operations.”

Features for the CRJ100/CRJ200 SF aircraft include:

– Eight 61.5 in x 88 in (256 cm x 223.5 cm) pallet positions
– Up to 14,840 lbs. (6,731 kg) main deck payload
– Large cargo door 94 in. x 77 in (238.7 x 195.6 cm)
– 10,000 lb. (4, 536 kg) payload can be flown 1,735 nm (3,213 km)
– 15,000 lb. (6 804 kg) payload can be flown 800 nm (1,482 km)
– Dual vent door system
– Rigid 9G barrier
– 28-VDC independent cargo door hydraulic system
– Main deck converted to Class “E” Cargo Compartment
– Cabin windows replaced with lightweight aluminum window plugs

SAS acquires Cimber, Cimber to receive 12 Bombardier CRJ900s from SAS

Scandinavian Airlines-SAS (Stockholm) has acquired Cimber A/S (Sonderborg and Copenhagen). SAS issued this statement this morning:

SAS has entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares in Cimber A/S.

Since 2004, SAS has had a wet lease agreement (aircraft and crew) with Cimber A/S (Cimber) that has a cost efficient production platform for regional jet operation. The acquisition provides SAS with an opportunity to transfer production with smaller aircraft to Cimber, consisting of 12 Bombardier CRJ900s with a base in Copenhagen. As a result, a more focused and flexible production can be achieved.

The acquisition of Cimber, will give SAS access to a specialist within regional flights with a very competitive production platform that complements SAS’ production of larger Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Due to expected synergies, the acquisition of Cimber can also provide opportunities for SAS to maintain and develop regional routes within the network for the benefit of SAS customers, says Rickard Gustafson, SAS President & CEO.

The acquisition, includes Cimber’s option to receive CO2emission rights for the years 2015-2020. The nominal value of these rights currently amount to approximately MDKK 35 subject to the EU Commission’s approval of the Danish allocation plan for European Aviation Allowances (EUAA) for 2015-2020.

The discontinuation of Cimber’s current fleet of Bombardier CRJ200s and ATR 72s will be implemented as already communicated and decided by Cimber.

The value of the transaction is MDKK 20 with final payment in April 2015. The transaction must be approved by relevant Competition Authorities, and is subject to other customary conditions.

SkyWest Airlines is taking over the Endeavor Air Fort Wayne maintenance base

SkyWest Airlines (St. George, Utah) has informed its maintenance employees that it is taking over the Endeavor Air (Delta Connection) (Minneapolis/St. Paul) maintenance base at Fort Wayne, Indiana on February 1, 2015. The company expects to handle up to four overnight Bombardier CRJ200s for the Delta Connection system (see route map below).

SkyWest Airlines to start CRJ200 regional jet flights to Pocatello and Elko on January 1, 2015

SkyWest Airlines (Delta Connection) (St. George, Utah) will commence new daily jet service between Pocatello, Idaho and the Salt Lake City hub on January 1, 2015. SkyWest will operate Delta Connection flights from Pocatello to Salt Lake City with two roundtrips from Monday through Friday and one roundtrip on Saturdays and Sundays.

The new jet service will be onboard the 50-passenger Canadair Regional Jets (CRJ200s) and will replace the existing 30-seat Embraer EMB-120 turboprops. SkyWest Airlines is phasing out its EMB-120 Brasilias.

The carrier on the same day is also replacing its Brasilias with CRJ200s on the Salt Lake City-Elko, Nevada route.

Delta Connection-SkyWest:

Air Wisconsin to start flying for Delta on January 5, 2015 (see update)

Air Wisconsin (Appleton) has apparently reached an agreement with Delta Air Lines to operate 26 Bombardier CRJ200s for Delta Air Lines as a new Delta Connection carrier according to Flightglobal. The first flight is expected to be launched on January 5, 2015 per ch-aviation (see update below). Delta or the Air Wisconsin Airlines Corporation has not yet made a formal announcement. The 26 CRJ200s will be transferred from Endeavor Air according to the report.

Air Wisconsin Airlines Corporation, founded in 1965, currently operates nearly 500 departures per day system-wide to 26 states and three Canadian provinces in partnership with US Airways. With service to approximately 70 cities throughout North America, Air Wisconsin carries nearly 6 million passengers per year.

The airline currently operates 71 Bombardier (Canadair) CRJ200 regional jets. The company has maintenance bases at Milwaukee, Norfolk, Philadelphia and Columbia, SC. Crews are domiciled at New York (LaGuardia), Washington (Reagan National), Philadelphia and Norfolk.

Update: Ch-aviation is now reporting Air Wisconsin will not start flying for Delta on January 5, 2015. It is unclear if this agreement was finalized.
