Frontier Airlines launches the Bakersfield-Denver route

Frontier Airlines (2nd) (Denver) yesterday (May 16) launched nonstop service from Bakersfield, California (BFL) to its hub in Denver, Colorado.

The service will operate on 138-seat Airbus A319 aircraft.

Norwegian is coming to Oakland today

Norwegian Long Haul (Norwegian.com) (Oslo) today (May 3) launched the first nonstop flight from Stockholm (Arlanda) to Oakland, California. It is the first time that Sweden has a direct flight to the San Francisco Bay area.

The new route is operated two days a week with the Boeing 787. Oslo-Oakland service starts on May 28.

Norwegian’s other long-haul routes from Stockholm (Arlanda) and Oslo (Gardermoen) operates to New York (JFK), Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood and Bangkok. From Copenhagen the fast-growing airline operates nonstopย flights to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Los Angeles and New York (JFK).

A 16-year boy survives a flight from San Jose to Honolulu in the wheel well!

A 16-year old boy somehow survived a 5 and a half hour flight from San Jose, California to Honolulu, Hawaii. The boy from Santa Clara, California hopped the fence at Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) and climbed into the wheel well of a Hawaiian Airlines (Honolulu) Boeing 767-300 departing for Honolulu. Running away from home according to ABC News, the boy somehow survived the long flight and the color temperatures. The airliner was flying over the Pacific Ocean at 38,000 feet. On arrival at HNL, he jumped down and started walking around the tarmac!

United Airlines to end all service to Klamath Falls and Modesto in June

United Airlines (Chicago) will end United Express Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia service to Klamath Falls, Oregon (from Portland and San Francisco) on June 3 per Airline Route. Service to Modesto, California from San Francisco will end on June 4. The routes are operated by SkyWest Airlines (St. George, Utah).

Virgin America to cancel the #nerdbird flights between Los Angeles and San Jose on May 14

Virgin America (San Francisco) is dropping the short-lived service between San Jose, California (Silicon Valley) and Los Angeles on May 14. Started less than a year ago, the self branded #nerdbird flights did not apparently attract enough flyers.

Frontier Airlines to expand operations at St. Louis with new routes to San Francisco, Trenton and Portland

Frontier Airlines (2nd) (Denver) today announced it will be expanding service from St. Louis with the addition of nonstop service to San Francisco, California (SFO) (three flights per week) and Trenton, New Jersey (TTN) (three flights per week) beginning on June 13, 2014, and Portland, Oregon (PDX) (three flights per week) beginning on June 15, 2014.

When service starts, Frontier Airlines will offer nonstop service from St. Louis to a total of 10 destinations. Through its partnership with Apple Vacations, Frontier offers service to Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, Huatulco, and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and Montego Bay, Jamaica. Domestically, nonstop service is available to Denver, Portland, San Francisco and Trenton.ย 

Additionally, besides the new St. Louis route, Frontierย will expand its service at Trenton-Mercer Airport (TTN), in Ewing, New Jersey, with the addition of nonstop service to Milwaukee, Wisconsin (MKE) and Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota (MSP) beginning on June 13, 2014.

Volaris is coming to Ontario, California

Volaris (Mexico City) has announced the launching of a new international route that will connect the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco with Ontario, California. Operations will begin on April 12, 2014. Ontario will become the 13th destine in the United States.

Ontario is also Volaris’ seventh destination in California, in addition to: Los Angeles, Oakland, San Jose, San Diego, Fresno and Sacramento.
Schedules and frequencies:

Guadalajara, Jalisco โ€“ Ontario, California.
(Starting April 12th. Wednesday and Saturday)
Departing from Guadalajara at ย 22:40 hours., arriving to Ontario at 00:05 hours

(Starting April 13th. Thursday and Sunday)
Departing from Ontario at 01:20 hours., arriving to Guadalajara at 06:45 hours

Alaska Airlines gets ready to expand its ski flights network

Alaska Airlines (Seattle/Tacoma) is starting new nonstop flights between Portland, Oregon and Reno/Tahoe, California on November 8, between Seattle/Tacoma and Steamboat Springs, Colorado on December 18, and between San Diego and Mammoth, California, on December 19. This is addition to the airline’s increase in flights between Los Angeles and Mammoth, starting on December 1, and seasonal service from Seattle/Tacoma and Los Angeles to Sun Valley, Idaho, starting on December 14.

Several of the flights will be operated by Alaska Airlines’ regional partners Horizon Air (Alaska Horizon) (Seattle/Tacoma), using 76-seat Bombardier DHC-8-402s (Q400s), and SkyWest Airlines (Alaska SkyWest) (St. George, Utah), using 70-seat Bombardier CRJ700 regional jets.
