flydubai showcases its first Boeing 737-8 MAX 8 at the Dubai Airshow

Dubai-based flydubai (www.flydubai.com) marks its fifth Dubai Airshow by unveiling its brand-new Boeing 737 MAX 8. This is the first aircraft to be delivered from the largest single-aisle Boeing aircraft order placed in the Middle East in the 2013 edition of the show.

The new aircraft, bearing the UAE registration mark A6-MAX, is the first of 76 aircraft on order from Boeing; all of which will be delivered by 2023. Six of these aircraft will join the flydubai fleet by the end of the last quarter of 2017.

flydubai’s new Boeing 737 MAX 8s will initially be deployed on the furthest points on the carrier’s network. Destinations including Bangkok, Prague, Yekaterinburg and Zanzibar will be among the first to be served by the MAX 8. The additional aircraft being delivered over the next few years will be rolled out across the fleet and will become available on most of the routes on the network.

Since the beginning of 2017, flydubai has launched six new destinations and grown its network to more than 95 destinations, increased the schedule to more than 1,700 flights per week as well as rolled out its new uniform worn by more than 2,500 uniformed staff.

flydubai expands its footprint in Moscow with new service to Sheremetyevo International Airport

Dubai-based flydubai has announced the start of its new daily flights to Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) in Moscow from November 29, 2017. This will increase the airline’s frequency to the Russian capital to double daily with the existing service to Vnukovo International Airport (VKO).

flydubai first started operating to Moscow in 2014 and has grown its network in Russia to 11 unique points. Makhachkala, Ufa and Voronezh being the latest additions with operations commencing in October 2017. Along with these newest points on flydubai’s network the airline operates direct flights to Kazan, Krasnodar, Mineralnye Vody, Moscow (VKO), Rostov-on-Don, Samara and Yekaterinburg.

The airline, which recorded a 45% growth in passenger numbers to Russia in the first half of 2017 compared to the same period in 2016 and is the first carrier to operate direct flights to Sheremetyevo International Airport from the UAE. The airport is one of the three airports serving the city of Moscow, along with Domodedovo International Airport and Vnukovo International Airport, and is one of the largest airports in Russia.

flydubai operates flights to more than 95 destinations in 44 countries offering passengers from Russia greater opportunity to connect onwards on the flydubai network to popular routes like Male (Maldives), Colombo (Sri Lanka) and Zanzibar (Tanzania) via Dubai’s aviation hub. Business Class and WiFi are available on flydubai’s flights to Russia.

Boeing delivers the first 737 MAX 8 to flydubai

Boeing and flydubai on July 31, 2017 celebrated the delivery of the airline’s first 737 MAX 8, making the Middle East carrier the first in the region to operate Boeing’s newest single-aisle airplane.

This delivery is the first of 76 737 MAX airplanes the airline will be adding to their all-Boeing fleet of Next-Generation 737s.

Flydubai currently operates a fleet of 58 Next-Generation 737-800s and has built a network of more than 95 destinations in 44 countries, from Russia in the north, Czech Republic in the west, Thailand in the east and Tanzania in the south.

Flydubai to add five more destinations in Iran

Flydubai (marketed as flydubai) (subsidiary of Emirates) (Dubai) has announced the launch of flights to Ahwaz, Hamadan, Esfahan, Shiraz and Tabriz in Iran. The announcement will see flydubai’s Iranian network grow to seven points, adding to the launch of flights to Tehran and Mashhad in 2014. Flights to Shiraz, Esfahan and Ahwaz will commence on March 8, 11 and 14 respectively. Hamadan and Tabriz will join the flydubai network on March 16.

Flydubai Boeing 737-800 is hit by gunfire while on approach to Baghdad

Flydubai (Dubai) flight FZ 215 from Dubai to Baghdad, Iraq was shot at last night (January 26) while on approach to Baghdad International Airport with 154 passengers and crew members on board. The Boeing 737-800 was hit by three or four small arms bullets. As a result Air Arabia, Emirates and Etihad Airways have suspended operations to Baghdad.

Flydubai to add three new routes in 2015

Flydubai (Dubai) has announced the addition of three new routes to its growing network. Flights to Hargeisa (Somaliland), Chennai (India), and Nejran (Saudi Arabia) will commence in the first quarter of 2015, further expanding the carrier’s footprint to 89 destinations in 46 countries.

From March 5, 2015, Flydubai will become the first carrier to operate to Hargeisa, Somaliland from Dubai with four weekly flights. Flydubai has expanded its network in Africa in 2014 to 13 points served by 60 weekly flights.

Nejran will be added on January 10, 2015 with four weekly flights followed by Chennai on March 31, 2015 with three flights a week.

Flydubai is coming to Bratislava, Prague and Sofia

Flydubai (Dubai) is expanding with new routes to eastern Europe. The fast-growing carrier will start three new routes from Dubai to Bratislava (twice-weekly starting on December 6), Prague (four weekly flights starting on December 5) and Sofia (twice-weekly starting on December 14) per Airline Route.

Flydubai (Dubai) has announced the launch of flights to Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Flights to the East African country will commence in October, expanding the airline’s network in Africa to 12 destinations.

In other news, Flydubai’s inaugural flight to Moscow landed today (September 23) at Vnukovo International Airport.

Previously Flydubai’s inaugural flight to Almaty landed at Almaty International Airport on September 16 and was met too by a traditional water cannon salute. This marked the start of the airline’s operations to Kazakhstan.

Flydubai adds three more routes, reaches 80 destinations

Flydubai (Dubai) has announced the addition of three new east African routes, bringing the total number of destinations in the carrier’s network to 80. With the launch of flights in September 2014 to Bujumbura in Burundi, Entebbe in Uganda and Kigali in Rwanda, Flydubai will fly to nine destinations in Africa.

In addition to operating between Dubai and these three new cities, Flydubai has obtained the rights to carry passengers between Uganda and Burundi.

Rwanda and Burundi are home to some of the most biodiverse places. Filled with numerous volcanoes, nature reserves and the second deepest lake in the world, the two countries also have one third of the world’s remaining Mountain Gorillas and one third of Africa’s bird species. While tourism is the largest contributor to Rwanda and Burundi’s economies, Uganda is considered one of Africa’s most progressive economies and is emerging as one of the leading commercial centres within Africa.

Within Africa, Flydubai currently operates flights to Alexandria in Egypt, Khartoum and Port Sudan in Sudan, Juba in South Sudan, Ethiopia’s Addis Ababa as well as Djibouti’s capital Djibouti.

Flydubai will operate seven flights a week between Entebbe and Dubai starting from September 28, 2014.

Flydubai to fly to Tehran and Mashhad in Iran

Flydubai (Dubai) today announced the launch of flights to Tehran and Mashhad, the carrier’s first two destinations in Iran.

Flights to Tehran will begin on August 11 and Mashhad on August 10. Flydubai will serve Iran with four flights a week, providing passengers with greater convenience when travelling between the United Arab Emirates and Iran. The carrier will be looking at expanding its network in the market as it continues to strengthen the trade and travel links from Dubai to the region.

The carrier, which took delivery of three new Next-Generation Boeing 737-800s in July (one is pictured above), has grown its fleet to 39 aircraft with more than 100 new Boeing aircraft on order.

Flydubai commenced its new services to Kandahar in July and Aden at the beginning of August. The airline is also set to commence flights to Moscow and Kazakhstan in September, Mumbai in October and to Sarajevo and Zagreb in December.
