Heavy rains disrupts operations at Dubai International Airport

Dubai International Airport has issued this statement:

Dubai Airports confirms that operations at Dubai International (DXB) continue to be hampered by the knock-on effects of water-logging caused by heavy rainfall earlier today which has resulted in a number of flight delays, cancellations and diversions. We continue to work closely with our service partners to clear the backlog, restore full operations and minimise the inconvenience to our customers. However, with additional rain expected later this evening, the disruption is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. Accordingly, customers are advised to check directly with their airlines for more specific flight information and allow additional time to get to the airport.

Emirates is coming to Bologna, its fourth destination in Italy

Emirates (Dubai) has announced plans to start a daily service to Bologna, Italy, from November 3, 2015.

The capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, Bologna will be Emirates’ fourth Italian destination bringing Emirates’ weekly flights to Italy to 56. The new route will be operated by a Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft in a three class configuration.

Emirates’ flight EK 093 will depart Dubai International Airport at 0845 and will arrive at Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport at 1220 the same day. The return flight will depart Bologna at 1440 and arrive in Dubai at 2330 the same day.

Emirates SkyCargo is coming to Orlando

Emirates SkyCargo (Dubai), the freight division of Emirates (Dubai), is set to expand its United States cargo network to 11 destinations, when the airline launches a daily service to Orlando, Florida from September 1, 2015.

The Dubai – Orlando route will be served by a Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft, which has a belly-hold capacity of up to 17 tons of cargo per flight. Emirates SkyCargo also has belly-hold cargo services to San Francisco, Seattle/Tacoma, Washington D.C., Boston, Dallas/Fort Worth, New York (JFK), Los Angeles, Chicago (O’Hare) and Houston (Bush Intercontinental), with the latter four cities also forming part of the air cargo carrier’s United States freighter network, along with Atlanta.

Emirates flight EK 219 will depart Dubai International Airport at 0350hrs local time and arrive at Orlando International Airport Terminal at 1140hrs local time. The return flight, EK 220 will depart Orlando International at 1420hrs and arrive into Dubai at 1230hrs the following day.

Emirates to bring the Airbus A380 to Copenhagen, double daily to Zurich

Emirates (Dubai) continues to add more Airbus A380 services. The fast-growing carrier has announced a second daily Airbus A380 service to Zurich.

Commencing on Thursday October 1, 2015, Emirates flights EK 85/86, currently operated by a Boeing 777-300 ER, will be upgraded to an A380. The first A380 was introduced on the route in January 2014.

Emirates flight EK 85 departs Dubai International Airport at 15.45 and arrives in Zurich at 20:20. The outbound flight EK 86 departs from Zurich at 22:15 and arrives in Dubai at 06:25 the following day.

Emirates also announced the launch of a daily Airbus A380 service to Copenhagen. As of December 1, 2015, the Danish capital will be the first in Scandinavia to boast a scheduled A380 service.

Emirates flight EK 151 will leave Dubai at 0820 and arrive in Copenhagen at 1220 the same day. The return flight EK 152 will depart Copenhagen at 1420 and arrive in Dubai at 2335 the same day.

Emirates is also adding a second daily A380 flight on the Dubai – London Gatwick route with the introduction of second daily A380 service on permanent basis.

In other news, Emirates will increase its capacity to the Indian Ocean Island of Seychelles, when it switches from the current Airbus A330-200 used on one of the two daily services to a larger Boeing 777-300 ER from June 1, 2015.

The introduction of the Emirates Boeing 777-300 ER, which operates as flight EK 705 from Dubai and as EK 706 on the return flight, will increase overall capacity on the route by 1722 seats per week and will make the route an all-Boeing 777 operation.

On the cargo side, Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, will soon be adding the Indonesian Island of Bali to its Asia Pacific network, opening up a new trade lane between the island and the cargo carrier’s network of more than 140 destinations.

Bali will become Emirates SkyCargo’ s 2nd gateway in Indonesia and 24th Asia Pacific point in its global network.

With the launch of its daily service to Bali, Emirates SkyCargo will offer 294 tons of cargo capacity per week both ways in the belly hold of a Boeing 777-300 ER which will be used on the route. The new Bali service will bring to four the number of daily flights Emirates SkyCargo has to Indonesia – three of which are to the country’s capital Jakarta.

Emirates to fly daily to Denpasar, Bali

Emirates (Dubai) has announced that it will launch a new daily service to the island of Bali in Indonesia, from June 3, 2015.

Bali will be Emirates’ 148th global destination, adding to the airline’s route network in the Asia Pacific region which currently spans 23 destinations in 13 countries. The nonstop service between Dubai and Bali will be operated by a Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft in a two-class configuration.

Emirates’ new daily flight to Bali will depart Dubai as flight EK 398 at 0820 and arrive at Bali’s Denpasar International Airport at 2140 the same day. The return flight, EK 399, will depart at 2340 and arrive at Dubai International Airport at 0500 the next day.

Emirates commenced services to Indonesia in 1992 with three flights per week via Singapore and Colombo, and since March 2013, the airline has been operating three nonstop flights daily from Jakarta to Dubai with a Boeing 777 aircraft.

Emirates announces two new Airbus A380 destinations

Emirates (Dubai) announced today the launch of Airbus A380 services to two European destinations: Dusseldorf and Madrid.

The addition of Dusseldorf and Madrid to the list brings the total number of European gateways served by Emirates’ A380 to 13. Emirates currently has 57 A380s in its fleet, flying to 34 destinations globally and wowing customers everywhere it flies with its industry-leading onboard features.

As of July 1, flight EK 055 will be operated by an Airbus A380, leaving Dubai at 0830 and landing in Dusseldorf at 1325 the same day, while flight EK 056 will depart Dusseldorf at 1525 and arrive at Dubai International Airport at 2355 the same day.

As of August 1, flight EK 142 will be operated by an Airbus A380, leaving Madrid at 1530 and landing in Dubai at 0045 the following day. The return flight EK 141 departs Dubai at 0740 and arrives in Madrid at 1340 the same day.

The Emirates A380 offers a total of 519 seats in a three-class configuration, with 429 spacious seats in Economy Class on the main deck, 76 fully flat-bed mini-pods in Business Class and 14 First Class Private Suites on the upper deck.

Flydubai Boeing 737-800 is hit by gunfire while on approach to Baghdad

Flydubai (Dubai) flight FZ 215 from Dubai to Baghdad, Iraq was shot at last night (January 26) while on approach to Baghdad International Airport with 154 passengers and crew members on board. The Boeing 737-800 was hit by three or four small arms bullets. As a result Air Arabia, Emirates and Etihad Airways have suspended operations to Baghdad.

Emirates to add a second daily Airbus A380 flight to Manchester

Emirates (Dubai) has announced that as of February 1, 2015, its EK019/020 service between Dubai International Airport and Manchester Airport, currently operated by a Boeing 777, will be replaced with an Airbus A380. The introduction of the second daily A380 means that half of Emirates’ 16 daily flights to the UK will be operated by an A380 from February.

The second daily A380 will increase Emirates’ capacity from Manchester by 13 per cent, with over 20 per cent of this increase in the premium cabins.

Emirates flight EK019 will depart Dubai International Airport at 1435 and arrive in Manchester at 1835. The outbound flight, EK020, will depart Manchester Airport at 2025 and arrive in Dubai at 0740 the next day.

Emirates to add a third daily flight to Birmingham

Emirates (Dubai) has announced a third daily service to Birmingham Airport, becoming the first airline to offer a direct First Class service to the region.

Commencing on Saturday August 1, 2015, Emirates flight EK 41, operated by a Boeing 777-300 ER, will depart Dubai International Airport at 0235 and arrive in Birmingham at 0705. The outbound flight, EK 42, will depart Birmingham Airport at 0910 and arrive in Dubai at 1910. The additional service adds seven more inbound flights a week to Birmingham, increasing passenger and cargo capacity on the route by 42 percent.

Emirates is going to four daily flights to New York on March 8, 2015

Emirates (Dubai) has announced it is planning to launch a fourth daily service from its home and hub, Dubai International Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York commencing on March 8, 2015.

The new service, flight EK 207 will depart Dubai at 14:50 hours and arrive in JFK at 20:35 hours. The return flight, flight EK 208 will depart JFK at 16:30 hours and arrive in Dubai at 13:15 the following day.

Thanks to Emirates’ code-share agreement with JetBlue Airways (B6) the new fourth daily service will allow good connectivity with JetBlue flights to points across the United States and Caribbean. At JFK, JetBlue operates from Terminal 5, while Emirates operates from the adjacent Terminal 4, allowing for fast and easy connections between flights.

Emirates and JetBlue’s partnership dates back to 2010 and has deepened over the subsequent four years, moving from an interline agreement to incorporating bilateral code-sharing, terminal co-location in Boston, and reciprocal benefits for each airline’s frequent flyers.

The fourth JFK service will be operated with one of Emirates’ fleet of Airbus A380 aircraft featuring 14 First Class Private Suites, 76 Business Class lie-flat beds and 399 Economy Class seats on the main deck. Its upper deck features Emirates’ iconic On-Board lounge for premium passengers and two unique Shower Spas for First Class passengers. All passengers on-board can enjoy access to up to 1,800 channels of films, TV shows, music and games through ice, the airline’s award-winning inflight entertainment system.

Emirates first flew to New York in June 2004 and since then has flown over 4.5 million passengers on the route. It currently operates two other nonstop services between DXB and JFK operated by Airbus A380 aircraft, and one service which routes via Milan, operated by a US-built Boeing 777. Passengers travelling in First Class and Business Class on Emirates-operated flights, as well as Skywards Platinum and Gold members, have access to the Emirates Lounge at JFK.
