Boeing delivers the first directly purchased Boeing 737-800 to UTair of Russia

Boeing (Chicago) has delivered to UTair Aviation (Khanty-Mansiysk), one of Russia’s leading national carriers, its first directly purchased Next-Generation 737-800. Boeing 737-8LP VP-BUL (msn 41707) was handed over yesterday (October 9). The airline currently has 40 Next-Generation 737s on order to be delivered in the next several years.

UTair’s new 737-800 seats 162 passengers and features the new Boeing Sky Interior. This interior is the latest in a series of enhancements for both airlines and passengers. It introduces LED lighting and curved architecture that welcomes passengers onboard and creates a greater sense of spaciousness and comfort in the cabin. The interior also features modern, sculpted sidewalls and overhead bins that disappear into the ceiling, yet carry more bags.

The Next-Generation 737 family has won orders for more than 6,500 airplanes, while the whole 737 family has surpassed 11,000 orders to date.

Based in Russia, UTair is an integrated air carrier and aircraft services company with over 40 years of experience. Today, UTair operates one of the largest aircraft fleets in Russia and ranks among the top three largest Russian carriers by passenger volume.

Silk Way Airlines orders two Boeing 747-8 Freighters

Silk Way Airlines (Baku, Azerbaijan) and Boeing today announced an order for two Boeing 747-8 Freighters valued at $704 million at current list prices.

Silk Way Airlines currently operates Boeing 747-400 Freighters (see above) and 767-300 Freighters. It is considered as one of the leading cargo airlines in Central Asia providing full-fledged services to Europe and the United Kingdom and the Middle East, as well as the Far East including Korea, China and Hong Kong. In addition, it also serves international destinations through a network of alliances.

Aeroflot considers dropping out of SkyTeam because of Delta

Aeroflot Russian Airlines (Moscow) according to Reuters, citing a report in Kommersant, is considering leaving the SkyTeam alliance in the future. According to the report, the flag carrier is not happy with its development of routes in the United States due to the “high fares” charged by Delta Air Lines.

Silk Way Airlines signs MOU for four Boeing 747-800F freighters

Silk Way Airlines (Silkway Azerbaijan Cargo) (Baku) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Boeing for four new Boeing 747-800F freighters according to cargofacts.net.

MIAT Mongolian Airlines to start a new route to Shanghai on January 17

MIAT Mongolian Airlines (Ulaan Baatar) is expanding its route map (see below) with a new twice-weekly route radiating from Ulaan Baatar to Shanghai (Pudong) starting on January 17 according to Airline Route.

This airline should not be confused with the newer Mongolian Airlines operating Airbus A319s on international routes.

NordStar Airlines is coming to Beijing, China

NordStar Airlines (Norilsk) is planning to start a weekly flight linking Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, Russia with Beijing, China according to Airline Route. Krasnoyarsk is the third largest city in Siberia after Novosibirsk and Omsk.

Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport is attacked by a terrorist, at least 35 killed

Moscow’s Domodedovo International Aiport was attacked this afternoon by a terrorist. The suicide bomber blew himself up in the international arrivals terminal. At least 35 people were killed. DME is Moscow’s busiest airport.

DME, ICAO: UUDD) is an international airport located in Domodedovsky District, Moscow Oblast, Russia, 26 miles south-southeast of downtown Moscow. Domodedovo is the largest airport in Russia in terms of passenger and cargo traffic (22.25 million passengers in 2010, which is a 19.2% increase over 2009), and is one of the three major Moscow airports along with Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports.

Alrosa Tupolev Tu-154M RA-85684 crash lands in Siberia

Alrosa Mirny Air Enterprise (Mirny) lost its Tupolev Tu-154M RA-85684 (msn 90A-851) in Siberia on September 7. The airliner while operating flight 6R 514 from Polyarny to Moscow (Domodedovo) with 72 passengers and nine crew members suffered a complete in-flight electrical failure. An emergency landing was made at the closed Izhma Airport. The aircraft overran the overgrown runway on landing and was substantially damaged. All 81 people on board survived the crash landing. The aircraft is a write off since it will not be able to be recovered.

Etihad Airways to convert up to 10 A320s to an all economy configuration

Etihad Airways (Abu Dhabi) will convert up to 10 Airbus A320s into all economy-class configurations to compete against the growing number of low-cost carriers. The company will start with two A320s reconfigured to carry 42 additional passengers.

Vietnam Airlines joins the SkyTeam Alliance

Vietnam Airlines (Hanoi) officially joined the SkyTeam global airline alliance today (June 10).

As part of the joining ceremony in Hanoi, attended by Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, senior government officials and representatives from SkyTeam member airlines, Vietnam Airlines unveiled its first aircraft in the SkyTeam livery to commemorate its membership in the alliance.
