LAN Peru and TAM Airlines add new routes from Orlando

The LATAM Airlines Group (Santiago) issued this statement:

Committed to strengthening connectivity internationally and connecting the U.S. to South America, LATAM Airlines Group affiliate LAN Peru and TAM Airlines are inaugurating brand new routes from Orlando International Airport (MCO) this month to Brazil and Peru, respectively.

TAM Airlines (TAM Linhas Aereas) (Sao Paulo) is kicking off a new service to Brasilia International Airport from Orlando International Airport today ( June 12, 2015). TAM also currently serves Sao Paulo from Orlando with 14 weekly flights.

Additionally, LAN Peru will offer the first-ever daily nonstop flights between Orlando International Airport and Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, Peru, starting on June 20, 2015.

TAM Airlines: Orlando to Brasilia

Brasilia serves as a hub for TAM’s domestic operations. This increase in international flights to Brazil’s capital, Brasilia, directly benefits passengers departing from the U.S., providing convenient access to over 40 Brazilian destinations, specifically connecting the U.S. to Northern Brazil.

The new route will fly daily from Orlando (flight JJ8049) at 10:30 p.m. (local time) and arrive in Brasília at 7:19 a.m. the following day (local time). The return flight will depart daily from Brasília (flight JJ8048) at 11:22 a.m. (local time) and arrive in Orlando at 6:30 p.m. (local time).

TAM Airlines will operate the route from MCO using Boeing 767-300 ER aircraft (above). The aircraft is configured with 191 seats in Economy class and 30 in Premium Business class, featuring seats that recline up to 180 degrees full flat.

LAN Airlines (LAN Peru): Orlando to Lima Route

Orlando is LAN Airlines’ fourth gateway in the U.S., joining New York, Miami and Los Angeles. Earlier this year, LAN Peru added two additional flights per week from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Lima. The airline expects to transport more than 80,000 passengers each year from South America to Orlando via Lima.

LAN Peru will operate the route on an Airbus A319 aircraft, which seats 126 passengers in Economy class.

Air Canada inaugurates new routes to Amsterdam and Mexico City

Air Canada (Montreal) has further expanded its global network with the June 5 arrival of flight AC824 in Amsterdam from Toronto (Pearson) and the departure of AC994 from Montreal (Trudeau) to Mexico City. The launch of these nonstop services marks a further advance of the airline’s international expansion strategy, which has seen its international capacity grow more than 50 percent since 2009.

New routes launched by Air Canada this year, in addition to Toronto-Amsterdam and Montreal-Mexico City, include: Montreal-Venice, Vancouver-Osaka, Vancouver-Comox, Calgary-Halifax, Calgary-Nanaimo, Toronto-Austin, Toronto-Atlantic City and Calgary-Terrace. Announced new routes still to launch include: Toronto-Dubai, Toronto-Delhi and Toronto-Abbotsford.

The Toronto-Amsterdam route will be operated with 211-seat Boeing 767-300 ER aircraft.

The Montreal-Mexico City route will be operated with 120-seat Airbus A319 aircraft.

Delta to add two new routes from Orlando

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) is adding two new routes from Orlando in December. The airline will add the Orlando – Sao Paulo (Guarulhos) four days a week route starting on December 19 per Airline Route. This new international route will be served with Boeing 767-300 ERs.

Delta is also adding a daily feeder route from and to Miami with McDonnell Douglas MD-88s. The flights will be timed to feed both ends of the new Sao Paulo route.

As previously announced, Delta is also adding the daily Orlando – Seattle/Tacoma route on December 19.

In other news, Delta is also adding the Los Angeles – Tucson route on December 19.

Delta’s pilots, represented by ALPA, reach a tentative agreement with management

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) and its pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract.

ALPA issued this statement:

On June 4, the Negotiating Committee for the pilots of Delta Air Lines, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), reached a tentative agreement with Delta management on an amended collective bargaining agreement, over six months ahead of the December 31, 2015 amendable date.

In a letter to the Delta pilots, Delta Master Executive Council (MEC) Chairman Captain Mike Donatelli wrote, “This agreement represents the culmination of tremendous effort on your behalf. We have been engaged in negotiation preparation and execution for a full year, with incredible dedication from our negotiators, professional staff, subject matter experts and your elected representatives.

As a function of process within the Delta MEC Policy Manual, your elected representatives will now have TA language in their possession for seven days. We will meet, and if they approve the agreement, it will be made available to the Delta pilots for membership ratification.”

The tentative agreement is in the hands of the Delta MEC, the union’s governing body, for consideration. Until that process is complete, the details of the tentative agreement will not be publically released.

Ethiopian Airlines spreads it wings to Manila

Ethiopian Airlines (Addis Ababa) will extend its current route to Bangkok to Manila in the Philippines on July 9 with 235-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft. Manila will bring the airline’s list of international destinations to 88.

SkyGreece Airlines arrives in Canada

SkyGreece Airlines (Athens) on May 23 started twice-weekly service to Montreal (Trudeau) and Toronto (Pearson) from Athens. The airline is also serving Canada from Budapest.

The new Greek trans-Atlantic Airline was founded by Greek expatriates from Canada and the USA. Operations commenced in 2014.

American and United support the Department of Homeland Security’s plan to expand preclearance to 10 additional gateway airports

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) and United Airlines (Chicago) have publicly come out in support of the announcement of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security of its intent to expand customs, immigration and agriculture preclearance to 10 additional gateway airports:

American Airlines issued this statement:

American Airlines applauds the announcement by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for their plans to enter negotiations to expand preclearance operations to 10 key gateway airports – seven of which are served by American.

“Expanding air preclearance is a tremendous step forward for improving the overall travel experience for our customers and welcoming more visitors to the United States,” said Robert Isom, chief operating officer for American Airlines. “Preclearance eases the congestion at our U.S. gateway airports and ensures our customers get to their destinations faster. We fully support Secretary Jeh Johnson and the Obama Administration’s plans for bringing more tourists to the United States, and we are excited to begin discussions on expanding preclearance facilities.”

American currently serves seven of the airports on the list for potential preclearance expansion – London Heathrow; Manchester, England; Tokyo’s Narita International; Spain’s Madrid-Barajas; Brussels; Amsterdam Schiphol; and Punta Cana International in the Dominican Republic.

At preclearance facilities, CBP Officers are stationed abroad to screen passengers and their accompanying goods or baggage heading to the United States. CBP Officers retain the authority to inspect these passengers after arriving in the U.S.

American will continue to work with DHS and CBP to ensure the negotiations are successful.

United Airlines issued this statement:

We have worked closely with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and support developments that provide more convenience for our customers. We thank Secretary Johnson and his team at the Department of Homeland Security and CBP for their engagement with United and the airline industry, and we look forward to partnering with them on this initiative to facilitate travel and reduce wait times.

Delta files to fly from Orlando to Sao Paulo, Brazil

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) has filed for regulatory approval to offer new nonstop flights between Orlando, Florida, and Sao Paulo, Brazil, beginning December 19, 2015. Delta expects to serve the two cities with four (4) weekly flights. The airline’s strategic alliance with Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes (Sao Paulo) extends the reach of this service to 20 interior Brazil destinations and provides seamless connections at Guarulhos International Airport.

The proposed service would be operated using a Boeing 767-300 aircraft, with 35 seats in Delta One, 32 seats in Delta Comfort+ and 143 seats in the Main Cabin.

Hawaiian Airlines is dropping service to Sendai, Japan

Hawaiian Airlines (Honolulu) on October 1 is dropping all service to Sendai, Japan. The airline is currently servicing the destination three days a week with Boeing 767-300 ERs per Airline Route.

Air Canada rouge arrives in Venice

Air Canada rouge (Toronto) touched down at Venice Marco Polo Airport on May 15, marking the start of new nonstop seasonal service from Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.

Service between Montreal and Venice will be operated by Air Canada rouge twice weekly through October 11, 2015 with a 280-seat Boeing 767-300 ER aircraft offering a choice of premium and economy cabins.

Air Canada rouge now serves Venice from both Montreal and Toronto during summer 2015 and offers the most seats of any airline between Canada and Venice during the peak summer season this year.

In other news, parent Air Canada, Air Canada rouge and Air Canada Express also inaugurated new services between Vancouver-Osaka, Vancouver-Comox, Calgary-Nanaimo and Calgary-Halifax.

Up to five times weekly Vancouver-Osaka flights are operated by Air Canada rouge this summer with 280-seat Boeing 767-300 ER aircraft offering a choice of premium and economy cabins. Up to ten weekly, seasonal Halifax-Calgary flights are operated by Air Canada rouge with 136-seat Airbus A319 offering a choice of premium and economy cabins.

Daily Nanaimo-Calgary and twice daily Comox-Vancouver flights are operated by Jazz Aviation LP under the Air Canada Express brand with 74-seat Bombardier Q400 and 50-seat Bombardier DHC-8-300 aircraft respectively.

Upcoming new routes which will be launching by this summer’s peak include: Toronto-Amsterdam, Toronto-Austin, Toronto-Atlantic City, Toronto-Abbotsford, Montreal-Mexico City and Calgary-Terrace.
