Spirit Airlines announces new seasonal summer routes

Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) has announced several new routes starting just in time for the peak summer travel season. Joining the list is new nonstop seasonal service between Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW). This new service will consist of one daily seasonal nonstop flight operating between May 22, 2014 and November 1, 2014.

Spirit recently announced seasonal service operating May 22, 2014 through November 1, 2014 from Chicago/O’Hare (ORD) to Baltimore/Washington, DC (BWI) and Portland, OR (PDX); operating May 1, 2014 through November 1, 2014 from Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) to Baltimore/Washington, DC (BWI) and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH); and daily year-round nonstop service between Chicago/O’Hare and Oakland/San Francisco Bay Area beginning May 1, 2014.

Frontier to convert the Denver-Durango route to summer season only

Frontier Airlines (2nd) (Denver) is suspending the Denver-Durango route on October 29, 2013 for the winter season. The intra-Colorado route is currently operated with Airbus A319s and will be restored next summer according to Airline Route.

Delta to fly to Aspen, Colorado this winter

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) will add new nonstop seasonal service to Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado with daily flights from Atlanta and Saturday-only flights from Minneapolis-St. Paul, effective on December 21, 2013.

The new service will be operated by Delta Connection carrier, SkyWest Airlines (Delta Connection) (St. George, Utah), using a two-class, 65-seat Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft, featuring nine First Class seats and eight Economy Comfort seats.

The schedule for Delta’s new nonstop service connecting Aspen to Atlanta and Minneapolis is as follows:

Sun Country to start Minneapolis/St. Paul-Washington Reagan National service on August 20

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) today announced new nonstop service between Minneapolis/St. Paul and Washington D.C. (Reagan Airport) starting on August 20. The airline will operate six nonstop flights and four flights via Lansing (LAN) each week.

Minneapolis – Washington D.C.

Monday through Friday nonstop flights depart DCA at 11:50 a.m. (1150) and arrive in MSP at 1:30 p.m. (1330). The return flight Monday through Friday departs MSP at 5:05 p.m. (1705) and arrives in DCA at 8:30 p.m. (2030). On Sunday the flight departs MSP at 6:45 a.m. (0645) and arrives in DCA at 10:10 a.m. (1010). The return flight departs DCA at 10:00 p.m. (2200) and arrives in MSP at 11:40 p.m. (2340).

Flights via LAN operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, departing MSP at 6:30 a.m. (0630), arriving in DCA at 10:55 a.m. (1055). On Sundays the flight departs DCA at 11:00 a.m. (1100) and arrives in MSP at 1:40 p.m. (1340).

Lansing- Washington D.C.

Nonstop flights depart LAN Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m. (0930) and arrive in DCA at 10:55 a.m. (1055). On Sunday the flight departs LAN at 7:30 p.m. (1930) and arrives in DCA at 8:55 p.m. (2055). The newly timed return flight departs DCA Monday through Friday at 10:00 p.m. (2200) and arrives in LAN at 11:30 p.m. (2330). On Sundays the flight departs DCA at 11:00 a.m. (1100) and arrives in LAN at 12:30 p.m. (1230).

As previously announced, the airline starts MSP nonstop service to Chicago (Midway) on July 1.

Delta to add three weekly routes to Central America in December

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) is planning to add three weekly routes to Central America starting on December 21, 2013 per Airline Route. The new routes will be Los Angeles-Belize City, Minneapolis/St. Paul-San Jose and New York (JFK)-Guatemala City. All will operate on Saturdays.

In addition, Delta will cancel the New York (JFK)-Milwaukee route on September 1 per Airline Route.

Sun Country is coming to Chicago Midway

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) has announced that they will be flying nonstop into Chicago-Midway from Minneapolis/St. Paul- Terminal 2. Flights will be operating twice daily. The new year-round service will begin on July 1, 2013.

Sun Country’s CEO Stan Gadek suddenly leaves the company

Sun Country Airlines‘ (MN Airlines dba) (Minneapolis/St. Paul) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stan Gadek, who brought the airline out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization into profitability, suddenly left the company on Wednesday (February 13) according to this report by the Star Tribune.

The company said Gadek was being replaced on an interim basis by vice president and general counsel John Fredericksen.

Southwest to start Kansas City-Minneapolis/St. Paul service on February 14

Southwest Airlines (Dallas) and its wholly owned subsidiary AirTran Airways announced today that they have extended their flight schedules for travel between February 14, 2013, and March 8, 2013. In the schedule, Southwest will begin new service between Kansas City and Minneapolis-St. Paul with two daily nonstop flights. Both carriers also will begin new seasonal routes as listed below.
