JAL Express is merged into Japan Airlines

JAL Express (Tokyo-Haneda) today (October 1) was merged into its parent JAL-Japan Airlines (Tokyo) as planned. JAL Express operated its last flight yesterday. The JAL Express titles are being removed from the aircraft.

JAL Express started operations on July 1, 1998 as a low-cost subsidiary.

Japan Airlines to restart Osaka (Kansai)-Los Angeles flights on March 20, introduces “JAL Sky Suite 787” service

JAL-Japan Airlines (Tokyo) will resume the Osaka (Kansai)-Los Angeles route on March 20, 2015. Additionally the carrier will resume Nagoya (Chubu Centrair)-Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) route on December 20, 2014.

The airline issued this statement:

JAL Group (JAL) has announced revisions to its international network, flight frequency and fleet plans in the second half of fiscal year 2014, the year ending March 31, 2015. The airline will launch two routes between Nagoya (Chubu) and Bangkok, as well as between Osaka (Kansai) and Los Angeles. Additionally, the airlineโ€™s fully revamped JAL SKY SUITE aircraft will be expanded onto more international routes. JAL is implementing adjusted flight frequencies and fleet plans in accordance with the needs of its customers. JAL is embracing new challenges to expand its network, and to enhance the quality of products and services in order to improve customersโ€™ convenience.

The following flight schedules and fleet plans are subject to relevant authoritiesโ€™ approvals and changes.

1. Expansion of International Network

JAL will advance the implementation of an expanded international network outside of Japanโ€™s Tokyo Metropolitan Area, which was originally scheduled for FY2015. The airline will launch Chubu = Bangkok route from December 2014, and Kansai = Los Angeles route from March 2015. These are JALโ€™s first international flights from Chubu Airport in ten years, and concurrently its first international flights from Kansai Airport in six years. JAL becomes the only Japanese airline to operate nonstop flights on these two international routes. The airline is positively contributing to the economic development of the Chubu and Kansai regions, as well as to the improvement of customersโ€™ convenience.

Chubu-Bangkok route

The Bangkok route will be initially operated with a Boeing 767-300 ERs, and from January 2015, the aircraft is scheduled to be replaced with the Boeing 787-8s in order to provide customers with a more comfortable in-flight experience. JAL will operate five daily flights between Japan and Bangkok after adding the Chubu – Bangkok service, which re-positions JAL as the leader in flight frequencies to and from Bangkok. Additionally, JAL customers arriving from Japan can transit at Bangkok to an additional 13 destinations beyond, including Myanmar and Cambodia, by using JAL codeshare flights operated by Bangkok Airways (PG).

Kansai=Los Angeles route

In addition to JALโ€™s daily Tokyo (Narita) – Los Angeles flight (*3), JAL will launch the Kansai – Los Angeles route, the only nonstop connection between Los Angeles and the area with Japanโ€™s second largest economy and population, starting March 20, 2015.
(*3)Two daily flights are available between Narita and Los Angeles including the codeshare flights operated by AA.

The Kansai – Los Angeles route will operate utilizing the Boeing 787-8, which offers an improved in-flight experience because of the aircraftโ€™s advanced technology, especially on long-haul routes. Additionally, in cooperation with American Airlines (AA), JALโ€™s partner airline for trans-Pacific joint business, customers can reach 37 additional destinations from Los Angeles, via AAโ€™s network.

Additionally, Boeing 787-8s will be introduced on the Narita – Bangkok and Kansai – Bangkok routes from December 2014, as well as the Chubu – Bangkok route from January 2015, enabling JAL to provide fully-flat seats or shell flat seats in Business Class cabins on all medium and long haul routes to and from Southeast Asia and Honolulu.

Additionally, smaller aircraft will be introduced on select Chubu = Shanghai, Narita = Shanghai and Narita = Beijing flights. The airline will also utilize the Boeing 787-8 on its Narita – Delhi route from December 2014 and concurrently decrease flight frequency on its Narita -Seoul (Incheon) route. In other news, JAL is also introducing a new “JAL SKY SUITE 787” service on its new Boeing 787-8 on the Tokyo (Narita)-Frankfurt route (JL407/JL408) starting on December 1, 2014 and on the Tokyo (Narita)-New York route (JL004/JL003) on January 1, 2015.

Japan Airlines to introduce the Boeing 787 from Tokyo Haneda to Beijing on October 26

JAL-Japan Airlines (Tokyo) will introduce the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on the Tokyo (Haneda)-Beijing route on October 26 replacing a Boeing 767-300.

In addition, the company will introduce the 787-8 on the Tokyo (Narita)-Delhi route on December 1 replacing a Boeing 777.

JAL signs a Letter of Intent for 32 Mitsubishi Regional Jets

Japan-J-Air MRJ (JAL)(LR)

JAL-Japan Airlines ย (Tokyo) and Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to order thirty-two Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) aircraft, as the next-generation regional jet for the JAL Group. JAL plans to deploy the MRJ on domestic routes from 2021, operated by J-Air, the group’s 100% owned regional airline subsidiary.

Mitsubishi Aircraft has made steady progress on the development of the MRJ, Japanโ€™s first passenger jet, which is scheduled first delivery in 2017. As a network carrier that also operates regional jets, the JAL aims to contribute to the birth of this passenger jet that Japan boasts to the world, by not just operating the MRJ, but also providing comprehensive support.

Equipped with newly-developed Geared Turbofan engine, the MRJ will achieve significantly lower operating costs than current regional jets. JAL will operate the MRJ as the core aircraft on its regional routes, and remains committed to improving products and service quality from the passengersโ€™ point of view and developing more convenient networks. The MRJ will support JAL explore a new era of air travel.

JAL to add 15 Embraer E170s and E190s for J-Air

Embraer S.A. has signed a firm order with JAL-Japan Airlines (Tokyo) for a total of 15 E-Jets comprising the E170 and the E190 jets models, as well as for an additional twelve E-Jets family options.

All aircraft will be operated by Japan Airlines’ wholly owned subsidiary, J-Air (Osaka-Itami Airport). This order is added to the existing 15 Embraer E170s that the airline currently flies. New deliveries of E-Jets are scheduled from 2015.

J-Air currently operates 176 daily flights across its network of 21 cities that include Osaka-Itami, Sapporo, Sendai, Kagoshima, Miyazaki, and Fukuoka.

JAL to introduce domestic Wi-Fi service on July 23

JAL-Japan Airlines (Tokyo) will be the first Japanese airline to introduce the in-flight Internet service, called “JAL SKY Wi-Fi” on domestic routes. This new service will be on board its revamped “JAL SKY NEXT” aircraft, operated between Tokyo (Haneda) and Osaka (Itami), Fukuoka as well as Hakodate from July 23, 2014.

Under the theme of “A standard that’s a step ahead”, in addition to the introduction of new cabin interiors, the new in-flight Internet service will support onboard passengers to have seamless connectivity with the ground. JAL SKY Wi-Fi will be progressively expanded to 77 domestic aircraft including JAL’s Boeing 777s, 767s and 737s through FY2016.

American Airlines today launches new service between Dallas/Fort Worth and Hong Kong and Shanghai

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) today launches daily nonstop service between its Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) hub and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG)

The new daily service between DFW and Hong Kong will be operated with a Boeing 777-300 ER, marking the first time American will deploy its flagship aircraft to Asia. The aircraft features a three-class cabin configuration with fully lie-flat seats in First and Business Class, international Wi-Fi, and more customer and cargo capacity than any other aircraft currently in American’s fleet.

The new service between DFW and Shanghai will be operated with a Boeing 777-200 ER aircraft. American will be retrofitting its entire fleet of 777-200 ERs to include fully lie-flat Business Class seats, each with aisle access; new seats in the Main Cabin; in-seat entertainment; and international Wi-Fi capability. The new fully lie-flat Business Class seats on American’s 777-200 ERs will afford travelers among the largest living space of any 777 Business Class seat offered by any U.S. carrier.

The service to Hong Kong will add a new destination to American’s international network, and the service to Shanghai complements American’s existing service from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD).

Japan Airlines-JAL (Tokyo) has announced it will operate charter flights departing from Tokyo (Haneda) to Rome and Milan (Malpensa) starting on July 2, 2014. The charter flights will be operated with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners.

Japan Airlines will launch JAL SKY NEXT on May 28 from Tokyo Haneda to Fukuoka

Japan Airlines (JAL) (Tokyo) will launch its first JAL SKY NEXT service between Tokyo (Haneda) and Fukuoka on May 28, 2014. A total of 77 aircraft are scheduled to be revamped sequentially and will be progressively introduced on domestic routes.

JAL SKY NEXT will provide updated cabin interior with all-leather seats and LED lighting. Additionally, the in-flight internet service-JAL SKY Wi-Fi with new in-flight entertainment website will be introduced on domestic routes to deliver more comfortable travel experience and convenience to customers.

The first type with the new service standard will be the Boeing 777-200.
