Corendon Airlines’ Boeing 737-4Y0 TC-TJF makes a short overrun of the runway at Amsterdam

Corendon Airlines’ (Corendon.com) (Antalya) Boeing 737-4Y0 TC-TJF (msn 26078) with 166 passengers and crew slightly overran runway 4-22 at Amsterdam while attempting to land at 1903 local time last night. There were no injuries and there was no damage to the aircraft.

Blue Bird Airways to acquire its first aircraft

Blue Bird Airways (Heraklion) is getting ready to take delivery of its first aircraft.

Established in 2008 the charter airline has been wet leasing aircraft from SkyExpress.

Continental Airlines and Brussels Airlines to code share

Continental Airlines (Houston) and Brussels Airlines (Brussels) announced plans to start codesharing on Continental’s trans-Atlantic flights between New York (Newark) and Brussels, as well as on selected flights operated by each carrier on both sides of the Atlantic.

Effective August 9, 2010, Continental will place its “CO*” code on selected Brussels Airlines-operated flights between Brussels and nine cities in Europe (Bologna, Italy; Bristol, London/Heathrow and Newcastle, United Kingdom; Hanover, Germany; and Lyons, Marseilles, Paris/Charles de Gaulle and Toulouse, France) and between Brussels and 12 cities in Africa (Accra, Ghana; Banjul, Gambia; Bujumbura, Burundi; Cotonou, Benin; Dakar, Senegal; Douala and Yaounde, Cameroon; Entebbe, Uganda; Kigali, Rwanda; Monrovia, Liberia; Nairobi, Kenya; and Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso).

At the same time, Brussels Airlines will place its “SN*” code on Continental’s daily flights between Brussels and its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport, as well as on selected flights to five U.S. destinations operated by Continental beyond New York/Newark (Cleveland, Dallas/Fort Worth, Fort Lauderdale, Houston and Orlando).

Alaska Airlines Group reports second quarter income of $58.6 million

Alaska Air Group (Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air) (Seattle/Tacoma) reported second quarter 2010 net income of $58.6 million, or $1.60 per diluted share, compared to net income of $29.1 million, or $0.79 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2009. Excluding mark-to-market fuel hedge losses of $37.6 million ($23.3 million after tax or $0.63 per diluted share) and CRJ700 transition charges of $3.4 million ($2.1 million after tax or $0.06 per diluted share), the company reported net income of $84.0 million, or $2.29 per diluted share, compared to net income of $26.5 million, or $0.72 per share, excluding special items in the second quarter of 2009.

Spanish upstart AlbaStar acquires its first aircraft

AlbaStar (Palma de Mallorca) is a new Spanish airline which has taken delivery of its first aircraft, a Boeing 737-400, formerly operated by Hola Airlines with the same registration (EC-LAV).

AlbaStar has been set up by former LTE and MyAir staff led by Michael Harrington, the former CEO of LTE. The new airline plans to base this first aircraft at Milan (Malpensa).

TUI Travel to sell Jet4you to Royal Air Maroc

TUI Travel PLC (London) has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Royal Air Maroc (RAM) (Casablanca) for RAM to take a majority stake in Jet4you (jet4you.com) (Casablanca).

Jet4you is TUI Travelโ€™s Moroccan carrier which operates low cost routes between Morocco and European cities.
