“We are pleased to announce that the first of these two new Boeing 787-9s leased to Hainan Airlines will be ALCโ€™s very first Boeing 787-9 delivery. As the longest-range wide-body aircraft in Hainanโ€™s fleet, these 787-9s will offer additional range and capacity capabilities beyond the airlineโ€™s Boeing 787-8 aircraft already in operation. This placement marks our third and fourth aircraft placed on long term lease with Hainan, following two 737-800s in 2010. We look forward to the continued growth of our relationship with this world-class airline,โ€ said Jie Chen, ALCโ€™s Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Asia.

United logo-1

United Airlines (Chicago)ย plans to suspend winter service to Stockholm (Arlanda) and Oslo from its Newark hub between September 5, 2015 and May 4, 2016 according to a report by Reuters quoting a statement by the carrier.

United also expects to suspend one of its two daily flights between Newark and Paris from October 25 through March 26, 2016.

In other news, with additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner (below) deliveries, United will start to assign the new type to the Houston (Bush Intercontinental) hub on its routes to Latin America and Europe, replacing older Boeing 767-300 ERs.

Air Tahiti Nui finalizes its order for two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners

Air Tahiti Nui 787-9 Artwork

Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) and Air Tahiti Nui (Papeete) have finalized an order for two 787-9 Dreamliners, valued at $514 million at current list prices.

The flag carrier for French Polynesia, a new 787 customer, has also leased two additional 787-9s through the Air Lease Corporation (ALC)(Los Angeles).

The new 787-9 Dreamliner complements and extends the super-efficient 787 family. With the fuselage stretched by 20 feet (6 meters) over the 787-8, the 787-9 can fly more passengers and more cargo farther with the same exceptional environmental performance โ€” 20 percent less fuel use and 20 percent fewer emissions than the airplanes they replace. The 787-9 also leverages the visionary design of the 787-8, offering passengers features such as the industry’s largest windows, large stow bins, modern LED lighting, higher humidity, a lower cabin altitude, cleaner air and a smoother ride.

Air Tahiti Nui links the South Pacific with four continents as the leading carrier to French Polynesia, with daily non-stop service to Tahiti from Los Angeles.

The new 787-9s will replace the current Airbus A340-300s.

Coming in the fall: ANA to introduce a R2-D2 Star Wars Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner logo jet

All Nippon Airways (ANA) (Tokyo) announced today it will introduce Star Wars livery, with the iconic R2-D2, on its newest aircraft 787-9 Dreamliner (drawings show the upcoming Boeing 787-9 JA873A, msn 34530) to mark the beginning of a five-year ANA Star Warsโ„ข Project and agreement with The Walt Disney Company (Japan) Ltd.* This marks the first time a Star Wars character will appear on the exterior of a commercial aircraft. The R2-D2 design was unveiled to Star Wars fans today at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California, just months prior to the characterโ€™s appearance on international flights** in autumn of this year.

ANA 787-9 Star Wars 1 (ANA)(LR)

The Star Wars livery is in line with ANAโ€™s strategy to further enhance its international presence. Last spring, the carrier significantly expanded its international flight network from Haneda and Narita airports in Tokyo. With demand increasing around the world for flights to Japan and routes linking the United States with Asia, ANA is committed to raising the profile of the ANA brand in the global market through innovative partnerships and branding opportunities. The partnership with Star Wars, beloved by audiences in Japan and around the globe, is a perfect match as Japanโ€™s largest airline seeks to connect travelers around the world through this project.

ANA 787-9 Star Wars 2 (ANA)(LR)

“Weโ€™re excited to be involved in this collaboration with ANA, one of the world’s leading 5-star airlines,โ€ said Kayleen Walters, Vice President, Marketing for Lucasfilm Ltd. โ€œWeโ€™re proud of the innovative R2-D2 design, and we look forward to witnessing the first-ever flight of a passenger aircraft featuring a Star Wars character. Weโ€™re confident that Star Wars fans around the world will absolutely love this design.”

ANA 787-9 Star Wars 3 (ANA)(LR)

“ANA boasts an extensive international network, along with convenient connections between the U.S. and a wide variety of destinations throughout Asia,โ€ said Takashi Shiki, ANA Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing. โ€œAlthough itโ€™s a lofty goal, we hope that like Star Wars, ANA will become well known and loved across all borders and generations. The R2-D2 motif works well with ANAโ€™s blue logo design on the aircraftโ€™s fuselage, and many people associate R2-D2 with competent and reliable serviceโ€”also hallmarks of ANAโ€™s 5-star service. We are particularly delighted to introduce this collaboration now as we prepare to launch our new international service from Tokyo to Houston in June, making it our 10th North American destination. Through the introduction of the new Star Wars livery we hope to welcome more passengers from around the world to experience ANA as the Inspiration of Japan.”
