FedEx Express takes delivery of first Boeing 777F

FedEx Express (Memphis) yesterday (September 22) took delivery of its first Boeing 777F freighter (777-FS2, N850FD, msn 37721). The 777F will fly between the United States and Asia. The 777F will be capable of flying 5,800 nautical miles, 2,100 nm further than the McDonnell Douglas MD-11F it will replace.

Colgan Air (2nd) (subsidiary of Pinnacle Airlines Corporation) (Manassas) and its pilots, represented by ALPA, will begin contract negotiations on September 23.

QANTAS’ 75th 737 arrives in New Zealand

QANTAS Airways’ (Sydney) 75th Boeing 737 arrived yesterday (September 21) at Auckland with a special decal. Boeing 737-838 ZK-ZQA (msn 34200, ex VH-VZF) is also named for New Zealand aviator Jean Batten and will be operated by subsidiary JetConnect on trans-Tasman services.

Continental Airlines (Houston) has selected AAR (Indianapolis) to install Aviation Partners Boeing Blended Winglets on 16 Boeing 757-300s.

Alwafeer Air to start charter operations

Alwafeer Air (Jeddah) is a new Hajj and Umrah charter airline with an ex-Malaysia Airlines Boeing 747-4H6 registered HZ-AWA1 (msn 27672, ex 9M-MPI) which was delivered on September 10, 2009. Arik Air (Lagos) may have to change its “Wings of Nigeria” sub-titles if they follow through on their current threat to move to another country. Arik Air is upset about the Nigerian government’s order to move from the domestic terminal at Lagos to the international terminal.

SkyWest Airlines (United Express) (St. George) will start three new United Express routes for United Airlines starting on December 17. Two will be from the Chicago (O’Hare) hub to Asheville and Duluth. The third will be from the Denver hub to Midland/Odessa all with CRJs.

Air Libya paints 5A-DKV in full colors

Air Libya (Benghazi) has brought on line and painted this ex-Air Algerie Boeing 727-2D6 registered 5A-DKV (msn 22374) in the full 2003 colors. Air Libya is privately owned and was originallyย established in 1995 as Tibesti Air Libya (Tripoli). The company now operates charter flights in support of the Libya oil industry. 5A-DKV is used on passenger charter operations and is part of a diminishing network of passenger operators of the trijet.
