Eagle pilots protest Connection flights at O’Hare

American Eagle’s (Dallas/Fort Worth) pilots are protesting an effort by AMR to move the AmericanConnection (operated by Chautauqua Airlines) feeder operations from St. Louis to the Chicago O’Hare hub. The AmericanConnection second party operation was an outgrowth of the TWA merger and previously contained to the former St. Louis hub. Trans States Airlines (St. Louis) continues to operate AmericanConnection flights at St. Louis.

Virgin Nigeria is now Nigerian Eagle Airlines

The first aircraft to be repainted at Shannon is this Boeing 737-33V registered 5N-VNF (msn 29341). The airliner was later routed from Shannon to Palma de Mallorca and then Lagos on September 17, having arrived in SNN in the old Virgin Nigeria colors on September 11. Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) has been fined $375,000 for alleged consumer protection violations, including those passengers bumped from flights.

American Eagle (Dallas/Fort Worth) has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Bombardier to exercise options for 22 additional CRJ700s (CL-600-2C10s).

FedEx Corporation (FedEx Express) (Memphis) reported fiscal first quarter (ending on August 31) net earnings of $181 million, representing a drop of 53 percent.

Olympic Air (3rd) (Athens) will take over as the new Greek flag carrier on September 29. Outgoing Olympic Airlines (2nd) (Athens) will operate its last flights on September 28.

Cathay Pacific to sell HAECO stake to Swire

Cathay Pacific Airways (Hong Kong) will sell its HAECO stake to its largest shareholder, Swire Pacific, to raise cash. Cathay will also sell and lease-back six new Boeing 777-300 ERs on order to raise additional capital.

Air France (Paris) will take delivery of its first Airbus A380-861 (F-HPJA, msn 033, ex F-WWSB) in a ceremony at Hamburg (Finkenwerder) on October 30. The new type is due to be introduced on the Paris (CDG)-New York (JFK) route on November 23, 2009.
