Bahamas celebrates Frontier Airlines inaugural flight to Nassau from Orlando

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation made this announcement:

Live Junkanoo performances and a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday at the Orlando International Airport celebrated Frontier Airlines inaugural flight from Orlando to Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau.

The four-times weekly service brings passengers directly to the nation’s vibrant capital with fares as low as $69. The Islands of The Bahamas welcome Floridian travelers with open arms, turquoise water and plenty of sunshine.

There are a host of new developments, hotel reopenings and experiences happening throughout Nassau and Paradise Island, Grand Bahama Island and the beloved Out Islands, making  The Bahamas one of the Caribbean’s top must-visit destinations:

  • Margaritaville Hotels & Resorts recently opened an all-new 300-room Margaritaville Beach Resort Nassau, complete with 11 distinct dining options and an on-site waterpark.
  • Six-time James Beard Award-winning chef Marcus Samuelsson debuted his new restaurant, Baha Mar Fish + Chop House, at Baha Mar, sourcing the freshest local ingredients and Bahamian seafood, complete with a vibrant dining room and rooftop cocktail bar.
  • Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach, an all-inclusive resort located in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, reopened, boasting an oceanfront pool, watersports and 4,000 feet of beautiful white-sand beaches.

The new nonstop route will operate once daily every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Bahamasair (Nassau), the national flag carrier of Bahamas, has placed a firm order for two ATR 72-600s and three ATR 42-600s, thus becoming a new ATR customer.

Bahamasair’s first ATRs will be delivered before the end of 2015.

The new generation ATRs will allow Bahamasair to upgrade its fleet allowing the airline to solidify excellent passenger experience on both domestic and regional routes from the airline’s main base at Nassau. The 70-seat ATR 72-600s are the perfect solution to bolster and complement the airline’s current Boeing 737 fleet, while the 50-seat ATR 42-600s are very well adapted to connect Bahamas Islands.

Delta to start winter seasonal service to both Montego Bay and Nassau from Minneapolis/St. Paul

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) will start weekly seasonal service from the airline’s hub in Minneapolis/St. Paul to Montego Bay, Jamaica on starting on January 18, 2015 and Nassau in the Bahamas, starting 0n January 17, 2015. Flights will be operated on Airbus A320 aircraft with 150 seats, including 12 seats in Business Class, 18 Economy Comfort seats and 120 economy seats.

Frontier Airlines to start bi-weekly Trenton-Nassau flights on November 20

Frontier Airlines (2nd) (Denver) will start the first international route from Trenton, New Jersey. The airline will launch twice-weekly service from TTN to Nassau in the Bahamas starting on November 20. The new route will be operated on Thursdays and Sundays on 138-seat Airbus A319s. The announcement was made by the airport.

Sun Country Airlines to add new winter season service to Nassau, Bahamas

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) starting on January 16, 2015 will add a new seasonal route to Nassau in the Bahamas from Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP). The new route will initially operate weekly and then increase to three roundtrips a week starting on February 12, 2015.

Southwest to serve Cancun and Los Cabos starting on August 10

Southwest Airlines (Dallas) has announced the next phase of its international service by offering Customers new Southwest Airlines flights to both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts of Mexico, as well as other new domestic and international flying, as the carrier extended flight schedules through October 31, 2014.

Beginning August 10, 2014, Southwest Airlines will operate daily, nonstop flights between:

  • Cancun, Mexico, and Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington, and (Saturdays only) Milwaukee
  • San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos, Mexico, and Santa Ana/Orange County
  • Nassau, Bahamas, and (Saturdays only) Atlanta

As the planned conversion of wholly owned subsidiary AirTran Airways’ destinations continues, Southwest intends to serve five countries previously served by AirTran by the end of this year.  Southwest previously announced service to Aruba, Nassau, and Montego Bay, beginning on July 1, 2014, and throughout this booking window is adding domestic connectivity through international gateway cities to many of the more than 80 cities served by Southwest Airlines across the United States.

Southwest’s phased rollout of international nonstop with domestic connecting service also brings new options for Denver customers who have made Southwest Airlines the largest air carrier in Colorado.

Beginning in October 2014, Southwest Airlines will offer nonstop service between Denver and:

  • Cancun, with daily roundtrip flights beginning on October 7, 2014; and
  • San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos, with Saturday-only service beginning on October 11, 2014

Some flights will be operated by AirTran Airways which is being slowly integrated into Southwest Airlines.

JetBlue to operate the new Airbus A321 to Nassau and San Diego in the fall

JetBlue Airways (New York) is planning to introduce the new Airbus A321 from New York (JFK) to both Nassau and San Diego (two new A321 routes) starting on September 3 per Airline Route. It will also continue to operate A321 flights from JFK to both Barbados and Las Vegas as well as Mint service to Los Angeles.

SkyBahamas is expanding with new routes and has larger aspirations with larger aircraft. The company also wants to become a maintenance, repair and overhaul facility.
