EgyptAir to launch a new route to Manchester in June

EgyptAir (Cairo) is planning to start two new routes from Cairo in June 2013 per Airline Route. Cairo-Manchester will start on June 1 and will operate five days a week with Boeing 737-800s.

Service to Toronto will be via a code-share with Air Canada via London Heathrow (correcting our previous report).

Virgin America is coming to Newark

Virgin America (San Francisco) announced todayย will serve New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) as of April 2, 2013 with three daily nonstop roundtrip flights from both San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The addition of Newark to its network means Virgin America will now serve eight of the top ten business markets from both SFO and LAX.

The airline’s daily nonstop schedule from the West Coast to EWR is as follows:

Caribbean Airlines puts its first Boeing 767-300 into revenue service today

Caribbean Airlines (Port of Spain) put their newly-acquired Boeing 767-300 into revenue service today (November 3) from Port of Spain to Toronto (Pearson) as flight BW 610.

Air Canada to deploy the Bombardier Q400 on the Toronto – New York JFK route and in Western Canada

Air Canada (Montreal) is adding the Bombardier DHC-8-402 (Q400) on the Toronto (Pearson-New York (JFK) route starting on November 1. In addition, the carrier has announced that it is boosting capacity on regional routes across Western Canada this fall and winter to meet demand.ย  The airline will also be gradually introducing Bombardier Q400 aircraft operated by Jazz Aviation (Halifax) under the Air Canada Express brand on key markets from Calgary and Edmonton beginning next year.

Starting next February, Air Canada will be scheduling new Q400 aircraft on regional routes across Western Canada to replace smaller Bombardier CRJ200 aircraft.ย  Air Canada Express flights are scheduled to enable convenient, point-to-point same day business travel, as well as convenient and easy connections to Air Canada’s extensive domestic, US and international network at Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. ย Increased services this fall and winter compared to last year include:

 

Calgary-Fort McMurray 7 daily (from 6 daily) 350 daily seats (from 300)
Calgary-Grande Prairie 5 daily (from 4 daily) 250 daily seats (from 200)
Calgary-Yellowknife 2 daily (from 1 daily) 100 daily seats (from 50)

Edmonton-Regina 2 daily (from 1 daily) 100 daily seats (from 50)
Edmonton-Saskatoon 2 daily (from 1 daily) 100 daily seats (from 50)
Vancouver-Fort St. John 5 daily (from 4 daily) 250 daily seats (from 200)
Vancouver-Nanaimo 7 daily (from 6 daily) 350 daily seats (from 300)

As mentioned, in February, 2013, Air Canada will begin gradually deploying 74-seat Bombardier Q400 aircraft on routes within Western Canada, replacing 50-seat CRJ200 aircraft. ย The Q400s will initially be scheduled on the following routes:

WestJet to operate seasonal Toronto-Port of Spain service on November 16

WestJet Airlines (Calgary) will start daily seasonal flights between Toronto (Pearson) and Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on November 16 per Airline Route.

Philippines Airlines is coming to Toronto, Paris and Rome

Philippines (Philippine Airlines) (Manila) is planning to add Toronto (Pearson) before of the end of this year as the company adds more Boeing 777-300 ERs according to this report by the Manila Bulletin. The flag carrier is also planning to add Paris and Rome in February 2013.

Engine debris drops to the ground near Toronto Pearson, Air Canada Boeing 777 makes an emergency landing

Air Canada‘s (Montreal) flight AC 001 from Toronto (Pearson) (YYZ) to Tokyo (Narita) (NRT) yesterday (May 28) afternoon was forced to return to YYZ after an engine failure on takeoff. At least four vehicles were hit by small pieces of engine debris from the Boeing 777.
