LAN Airlines to operate the Boeing 787 on the Santiago-Easter Island-Papeete route

LAN Airlines (Chile) (Santiago) will operate the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on the weekly Santiago-Easter Island-Papeete (Tahiti) route starting on September 21 per Airline Route.

On the financial side, LATAM Airlines Group reported operating income of $267 million for the fourth quarter 2014 and $513 million for 2014.ย Net income reached $98.3 million in fourth quarter 2014, compared to a net loss of $46.1 million in fourth quarter of 2013.ย LATAM reported a net loss of $109.8 million for full year 2014, compared to a net loss of $281.1 million in 2013. These results include foreign exchange losses of $130.2 million in 2014 and $482.2 million in 2013 mainly resulting from the devaluation of the Brazilian real. In addition, this result includes the recognition of a $112 million provision during the first quarter of 2014 related to estimated penalties for anticipated aircraft redeliveries as a result of our fleet restructuring process.

AeroMexico to operate the Boeing 787 domestically between Mexico City and Monterrey

AeroMexico (Mexico City) has announced that it will begin offering four weekly flights in April connecting Mexico City and Monterrey with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Adding the Dreamliner to this route will also allow the airline to increase the seat capacity of its morning flights by 51%, meaning that more customers will be able to travel to and from Terminal B at the Monterrey International Airport, connecting to the other domestic and international destinations served by Aeromexico.

AeroMexico’s seven Dreamliners operate on routes to Buenos Aires, London (Heathrow), Los Angeles, Madrid, New York (JFK), Paris (CDG), Santiago and Tokyo (Narita) routes.

American Airlines Group to join the S&P 500

American Airlines Group Inc. (American Airlines and US Airways) ย (NASD: AAL) (Dallas/Fort Worth) will replace Allergan Inc. (NYSE: AGN) in the S&P 500 after the close of trading on Friday, March 20. S&P 500 constituent Actavis plc (NYSE: ACT) is acquiring Allergan in a transaction expected to be completed today.

American Airlines Group is the holding company for American Airlines and US Airways. Headquartered in Fort Worth, TX, the company will be added to the S&P 500 GICS (Global Industry Classification Standard) Airlines Sub-Industry index.

JetBlue Airways and Royal Air Maroc to codeshare

JetBlue Airways (New York) and Royal Air Marocย (Casablanca) have today filed an application with the U.S. Governments to enter into a codeshare partnership that will offer customers easy connections between the two airlines’ networks.

Under the proposed codeshare agreement, Royal Air Maroc will place its “AT” airline code on JetBlue flights between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and 22 destinations in the U.S., including Boston (BOS), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Denver (DEN), Los Angeles (LAX), Orlando (MCO), San Francisco (SFO), Tampa (TPA) and Washington D.C. (IAD).

Additionally, JetBlue and Royal Air Maroc customers will be able to easily purchase a single ticket with seamless bag transfers via Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) to Marrakesh and 15 other Moroccan destinations, as well as a further 24 destinations in West Africa.

Less than two weeks ago, Royal Air Maroc introduced its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft (above) on the Casablanca-New York/JFK route.

The airlines have successfully partnered on an interline basis since 2012, and look forward to the further cooperation this codeshare agreement brings.

Qatar Airways is coming to Durban, South Africa

Qatar Airways (Doha) has announced a major expansion in South Africa with the launch of a new destination Durban while simultaneously increasing its weekly frequencies to Johannesburg. The airline will also increase its weekly frequency to Cape Town going up from five flights a week to a daily service.

Effective from December 17, 2015, the airline will launch four new weekly flights to Durban via Johannesburg bringing the total frequency to Johannesburg up from 10 weekly flights to a double-daily service.

From October 1, 2015, Qatar Airways will be operating daily flights to Cape Town ahead of the busy 2015/16 winter travel season, an increase from five weekly flights this winter.

Durban will be Qatar Airwaysโ€™ third route to South Africa following Johannesburg and Cape Town, both of which started in January 2005. All three routes will be operated with its 254-seat Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

Royal Air Maroc to introduce the new Boeing 787 on the New York route on Sunday

Royal Air Maroc (Casablanca),ย the national airline of Morocco, marks a milestone with the launch of its first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

The airline continues:

The new, super efficient 274-seat aircraft will depart on its inaugural 6.5-hour flight from Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca (CMN) to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) on February 22.

This launch marks the first of two 787-8s that will be dedicated to trans-Atlantic flights between the U.S. and Morocco. Royal Air Maroc’s new planes feature 18 Business Class seats in a 2-2 layout, and 256 Economy Class seats in a 3-3-3 layout.

Hainan Airlines to fly to China from Boston and San Jose, California

Hainan Airlines (Haikou and Beijing) today announced it plans to begin three new nonstop routes between the United States and China. Service will be inaugurated from Silicon Valley’s Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport to Beijing on June 15, from Boston’s Logan Airport to Shanghai’s Pudong Airport on June 20, and as previously reported, from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to Shanghai Pudong on June 22.

Mainland China’s only certified Skytrax five-star airline will operate two-class Boeing 787 Dreamliners on between San Jose and Beijing five days a week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with early afternoon departure times. Service between Boston and Shanghai will operate thrice weekly: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with afternoon times. Between Seattle and Shanghai, using a two-class Airbus A330-200, the airline will operate four days a week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with midday departure times.

From Boston, flights will depart at 4:25 pm (1625) and arrive Shanghai at 7:35 pm (1935) the following day. Return flights will depart Shanghai at 11:45 am (1145) and arrive Boston at 2:25 pm (1425) the same day. Flight time is 15 hours ten minutes westbound and 14 hours forty minutes eastbound.

The new flights from San Jose represent the first ever nonstop service between Mainland China and Silicon Valley. Flights will depart San Jose International Airport at 1:10 pm (1310) and arrive Beijing at 4:40 pm (1640) the following day. Return flights will depart Beijing at 2:30 pm (1430) and arrive San Jose at 11:10 am (1110) the same day. Flight time is 12 ยฝ hours westbound and 11 hours 40 minutes eastbound.

Cargo service is offered on all flights.

Service on the existing Beijing routes to and from Boston, Seattle/Tacoma and Chicago (O’Hare) will increase to daily on May 1, 2015. Hainan Airlines also operates daily between Toronto, Canada and Beijing.

Avianca brings the Boeing 787 to Sao Paulo, outlines its upcoming 787 routes

Avianca (Colombia) (Bogota) landed for the first time in Guarulhos Airport in Sao Paulo on February 11 at 6:50 am. Coming from Bogota, Colombia, the aircraft is one of two that will make four daily flights between the two cities.

Avianca recently received four Boeing 787s, a total of 15 to be delivered over the next three years. The four new aircraft will serve routes that include, in addition to Sรฃo Paulo and Bogota, Buenos Aires, New York, Santiago (Chile), Mexico, and, from June, Madrid, Barcelona and London (Heathrow).

American Airlines announces its first Boeing 787 routes

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) has announced it will begin domestic service with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in May and international service in June.

The 787 initially will be deployed between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) beginning on May 7, before launching internationally between DFW and Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) beginning June 2. The new aircraft will also operate between DFW and Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE) in Buenos Aires beginning on June 4. American will deploy the 787 to additional markets in 2015 as it takes delivery of new aircraft.

Arranged in a two-class cabin configuration, American’s 787-8 features 28 fully lie-flat Business Class seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration. The custom-designed forward-and rear-facing seats provide direct-aisle access for every Business Class customer for more mobility throughout the cabin. The aircraft is equipped with satellite Wi-Fi capability to keep customers connected while traveling internationally. The premium cabin also features inflight entertainment selections on a 15.4-inch HD Panasonic touchscreen monitor positioned in each seat. Business Class customers will also be offered Boseยฎ QuietComfortยฎ Acoustic Noise Cancellingยฎ headphones and ear buds. Each seat is equipped with universal AC power outlets and a USB jack.

The Main Cabin will be outfitted with 48 Main Cabin Extra seats in a 3-3-3 configuration, offering customers up to six inches of additional legroom, and 150 Main Cabin seats also arranged in a 3-3-3 configuration. Every seat offers a 9-inch HD Panasonic touchscreen monitor with an assortment of movies, TV programs, games and audio selections. Each Main Cabin seat is also equipped with universal AC power outlets and a USB jack.

Other advanced features on the Dreamliner include larger dimmable windows, improved cabin humidity and improved sound quality. American’s 787-8s will also feature a walk-up bar stocked with snacks and refreshments for customers traveling in the premium cabin.

American has placed firm orders for 42 Boeing 787 aircraft, with the right to acquire an additional 58. American already has the youngest fleet of the U.S. global network carriers, with an average aircraft age of 12.3 years. In 2015, American plans to take delivery of an average of two new aircraft per week. These new deliveries will make American’s fleet even younger, more modern and more efficient and will provide a solid foundation for continued improvements in technology, products and services.
