Delta to drop four more routes from Memphis

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) continues to dismantle the Memphis hub. According to The Commerical Appeal of Memphis, the airline will drop all service from MEM to Dallas/Fort Worth, New Orleans and Pittsburgh on January 5, 2015. The airline claims the MEM routes that are being dropped are “unprofitable” A fourth route, to Washington (Reagan National), will be dropped on April 7, 2015. 84 positions at the MEM station are being eliminated according to the report.

The routes are operated with Embraer 170/175s.

Allegiant Air is coming to New Orleans

Allegiant Air (Las Vegas) has announced new nonstop service to New Orleans, the carrier’s newest destination. Seasonal service between New Orleans and Cincinnati, Columbus and Indianapolis, and year-round service between Sanford (near Orlando), will begin in early February.

New routes announced include:

Seasonal service to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) from:

1. Cincinnati, Ohio – begins February 4, 2015 through May 5, 2015

2. Columbus, Ohio – begins February 5, 2015 through April 8, 2015

3. Indianapolis – begins February 5, 2015 through May 5, 2015

4. Sanford, Florida – begins February 5, 2015 through August 17, 2015

The new flights will all operate twice weekly.

Sunwing Airlines to operate weekly New Orleans-Punta Cana charters

Sunwing Airlines (flysunwing.com) (Toronto) starting on May 14, 2015 will operate weekly charter flights from New Orleans to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on behalf of Vacation Express per Airline Route.

Sunwing Airlines:

Southwest to drop three Caribbean routes from Atlanta

Southwest Airlines (Dallas) effective March 1, 2015 will drop two weekly international routes from Atlanta; Aruba and Montego Bay. The company will also drop the Atlanta-San Juan route on March 7, 2015 per Airline Route.

Effective on March 7, 2015 Southwest will add weekly San Antonio-New Orleans service.

Spirit Airlines moves up the start dates of five new routes

Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) will take delivery of some of its Airbus A320 “Fit Fleet (TM)” planes sooner than originally planned and has moved up the start date for daily flights in five routes.

The new Airbus A320 planes will arrive this fall and will be addedย to Spirit’s current fleet of 58 Airbus aircraft.

Spirit Airlines to add two new routes from Chicago and Detroit to New Orleans

Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) is adding nonstop service to New Orleans from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport and Detroit on November 6.

This is in addition to Spirit’s new nonstop service to New Orleans from Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood and Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport that will begin on August 1, 2014. With the addition of these new routes, Spirit will operate flights nonstop from five cities to New Orleans.

Additionally Spirit is also adding new service from Chicago (O’Hare) to Atlanta that will begin on November 2, 2014. Additionally, Spirit’s expanded service to operate year-round from Chicago (O’Hare) to Baltimore/Washington will also begin on November 6, 2014. With the addition of these new routes, Spirit operates flights nonstop from Chicago to 21 cities.

Alaska Airlines starts Seattle/Tacoma-New Orleans flights

Alaska Airlines (Seattle/Tacoma) yesterday (June 12) inaugurated round-trip service between Seattle/Tacoma and New Orleans.

The New Orleans service contributes to a plan to increase Alaska Airlines departures out of Seattle/Tacoma 11 percent by next spring. Alaska’s daily flights from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport will increase from 253 to 280, giving travelers more options to the places they want to fly most.

Other previously announced new service includes Albuquerque, New Mexico, Baltimore, Detroit, Tampa, Florida, and Cancรบn, Mexico.

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) will introduce the Airbus A319 to the New Orleans-Miami route on November 6 with four daily flights each way according to Airline Route.

Spirit Airlines announces new routes from Houston and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood

Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) continues to quickly grow its network. It is the growth airline in the United States. The ultra low-fare airline has announced that it is starting new service between Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and two new cities – Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood (FLL) and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) starting on August 1, 2014.

Additionally Spirit announced that it is starting new service between Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport and three other new cities, including Atlanta (ATL) starting on August 1, 2014, and to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood (FLL) and San Diego (SAN) starting on September 3, 2014. These new routes join new service from Houston to Kansas City (MCI) that begins on August 7, 2014.
