Transafrik International’s Lockheed 382E Hercules 5X-TUC crashes in Afghanistan

Transafrik International (Luanda) lost its eight crew members and its Lockheed 382E Hercules registered 5X-TUC (msn 4362) in a crash in Afghanistan yesterday (October 12). The cargo aircraft was flying for National Airlines (5th) (National Air Cargo) (Ypsilanti) on flight 662 from Bagram Air Force Base to Kabul. The freighter crashed as it approached Kabul. The Hercules once was operated by Southern Air Transport (1st) as N522SJ.

SkyWest Airlines’ flight 3074 makes a left main gear-up landing at Milwaukee

SkyWest Airlines’ (St. George) flight 3074 being operated under the AirTran Airways code was forced to make a left main gear-up landing at Milwaukee last night on a flight from Omaha. The Bombardier CRJ200 registered N498CA (msn 7792) with 36 passengers and three crew on board landed safely on runway 07R with no injuries. The regional jet skidded on the runway with the left main gear retracted.

Wind Jet’s Airbus A319-132 EI-EDM runs off the runway at Palermo on landing

Wind Jet’s (Catania) former Spirit Airlines Airbus A319-132 EI-EDM (msn 2424, ex N501NK) was operating flight LV 243 between Rome (Fiumicino) and Palermo with 123 passengers and six crew members. The airliner was approaching Palermo on its final approach with reported thunderstorms and windshear in the area. On landing the airliner veered off the runway. Both main landing gear collapsed after leaving the runway. The aircraft was extensively damaged. Reports varied on the number of minor injuries, ranging from three to 20 people.

conViasa’s ATR 42-300 YV1010 crashes on takeoff, 13 killed

ConViasa (Caracas) flight V0 2351 operated by ATR 42-300 YV1010 (msn 371) with 47 crew and passengers on aboard, crashed today (September 13) shortly after take-off from Cuidad Guayana, Venezuela while operating a domestic scheduled passenger flight to Porlamar, Margarita Island. The aircraft reportedly crashed into a steel factory with at least 13 people killed. YV1010 was delivered on September 5, 2006 and was destroyed.

Alrosa Tupolev Tu-154M RA-85684 crash lands in Siberia

Alrosa Mirny Air Enterprise (Mirny) lost its Tupolev Tu-154M RA-85684 (msn 90A-851) in Siberia on September 7. The airliner while operating flight 6R 514 from Polyarny to Moscow (Domodedovo)ย with 72 passengers and nine crew members suffered a complete in-flight electrical failure. An emergency landing was made at the closed Izhma Airport. The aircraftย overran the overgrown runway on landing and was substantially damaged. All 81 people on board survived the crash landing. The aircraft is a write off since it will not be able to be recovered.

UPS loses N571UP and two crew members at Dubai

UPS Airlines (United Parcel Service) (Atlanta and Louisville) yesterday (September 3) lost its Boeing 747-44AF N571UP (msn 35668) and the two crew members on board when it crashed on takeoff at Dubai.

FilAir let L-410 crashes in the Congo, 20 dead

FilAir’s (Kinshasa) Let L410UVP-E 9Q-CCN (msn 902422) yesterday (August 25) was operating a passenger flight originating from Kinshasa for Bandundu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. At 13:00 (1300) local time, the aircraft crashed into a house 1.2 miles short of the runway at Bandundu.ย The airliner hit a house but nobody was injured on the ground. Twenty people aboard the plane were killed leaving a single female passenger as a survivor. Radio Okapi reported that the aircraft ran out of fuel after being unable to land at Bandundu.

Henan Airlines Embraer ERJ 190 B-3130 crashes in China

Henan Airlines (formerly Kunpeng Airlines) (Zhengzhou) lost its Embraer ERJ 190-100LR B-3130 (msn 19000233) tonight in China. Theย jet broke apart as it approached the fog-shrouded runway at Lindu Airport near Yichun and crashed into a grass field,ย killing 43 people and injuring 53 others, state media said.

The airliner had departed from Harbin.

Kunpeng Airlines was originally founded as a joint venture between Shenzhen Airlines and the Mesa Air Group. In 2009 Mesa Air Group and Shenzhen terminated their agreement and Shenzhen announced that the airline would be renamed Henan Airlines.

Did malware cause Spanair’s McDonnell Douglas DC-9-82 (MD-82) EC-HFP to crash?

Spanair’s (Barcelona) flight JKK 5022 on August 20, 2008 operating from Madrid to Gran Canaria, crashed on takeoff. The airliner veered off to the right and into the ground while climbing immediately after lifting off from runway 36L at 1445 local time. The McDonnell Douglas DC-9-82 MD-82 with the registration of EC-HFP (msn 53148) was carrying 162 passengers and 10 crew. In the accident 154 people were killed, two were seriously injured and 12 were slightly injured.

The on-going investigation has discovered the central computer system used to monitor technical problems in the aircraft was infected with malware.

According to the linked article, an internal report issued by Spanair revealed the infected computer failed to detect three technical problems with the aircraft, which if detected, may have prevented the plane from taking off, according to reports in the Spanish newspaper, El Pais.

AIRES Colombia’s Boeing 737-73V HK-4682 crashes this morning on San Andres Island

AIRES Colombia’s (Bogota) ex-easyJet Boeing 737-73V HK-4682 (msn 32416) while operating flight 8250 from Bogota crashed on landing this morning in stormy weather at San Andres Island. One person has died and at least 114 people were injured. The aircraft broke up and was destroyed.
