Joy Air‘s (Xi’an) Xian MA60 B-3455 (msn 0803) was involved in a landing accident on February 4 at Zhengzhou, China. The turboprop had arrived on a flight from Taiyuan when the nose collapsed on landing and aircraft contacted the runway according to Aviation Safety Network. There were no reported injuries.
Saudia (formerly Saudi Arabian Airlines) (Jeddah) leased Boeing 767-300 was damaged in a landing accident at Medina (Madinah-Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz Airport) today (January 5). The number two engine of Boeing 767-3W0 ER HS-BKE (msn 28264) leased from Orient Thai Airlines contacted the runway on landing after the right main gear failed to deploy. 29 people were injured according the the BBC. 11 were taken to local hospitals and 18 had minor injuries. This was the third attempt to land and the captain declared an emergency. The right wing, engine and landing gear of the aircraft were apparently severely damaged and the aircraft is probably an insurance write off.
According to reports, the Hajj charter flight was carrying 299 passengers and 16 crew members. During the Hajj annual pilgrimage, Saudia leases in additional aircraft.
This aircraft was formerly operated by MIAT Mongolian Airlines as JU-1012.

Alitalia’s (2nd) (Rome) Airbus A320-216 EI-EIB (msn 4249) while being operated on operating flight AZ 63 from Madrid to Rome (Fiumicino), the crew was forced to make an emergency landing at FCO late last night (September 29) after the right main gear failed to deploy. The 151 passengers and crew members safely evacuated the aircraft using the emergency chutes with no injuries.
Alitalia issued this statement (translated from Italian):
Rome, September 29, 2013:
This evening at 21:04, flight AZ 063, coming from Madrid, made an emergency landing in Fiumicino Airport due to failure in the right main landing gear.
No injuries also thanks to the skill of the commander of the flight, with over 15,000 flight hours in the Alitalia Group and previously as a military pilot.
The plane is an Airbus A320, constructed in June 2010.

Southwest Airlines’ (Dallas) flight WN 345 from Nashville to New York (LaGuardia) operated with Boeing 737-7H4 N753SW (msn 29848) skidded off the runway last night (July 22) on landing at LGA ending up in the grass. After touchdown the nose wheel collapsed on landing, pressing back into the fuselage. Three passengers and five crew members were transported to a local hospital due to back and neck pain. The incident closed the airport and caused severe delays.
Southwest Airlines issued this statement:
Southwest Airlines flight 345 landed at New Yorkโs LaGuardia at 5:40 PM Eastern Monday evening from Nashville. There were 150 people on board including Customers and Crew. Three Customers and five Crew Members were transported to local hospitalsโall have been treated and released.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, was last inspected July 18, 2013. The aircraft entered service in October 1999. Southwest is working with both the NTSB and Boeing in a preliminary investigation of this event.
Overnight, the aircraft was removed from the runway. Southwest has resumed full operations at LaGuardia.
We express our utmost gratitude to emergency responders and Southwest Employees who assisted us last night.
In other news, Southwest announced it willย introduce new service between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, beginning on February 13, 2014.
The new route is the next step in the integration process between Southwest Airlines and its wholly owned subsidiary,ย AirTran Airways.ย Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Internationalย is AirTran’s top airport in terms of daily departures, andย Reagan Nationalย ranks eighth. In addition to the once-daily Southwest flight betweenย Atlantaย and Washington, D.C., AirTran will continue to operate five daily nonstop flights between the cities.
Southwest is also introducing a new nonstop flight between Baltimore/WashingtonInternational Airportย andย Dayton International Airport on February 13. Seasonal service between Reno/Tahoe and Chicago (Midway), Las Vegas and Albany, and Long Island MacArthur and Ft. Myers will resume on February 13, 2014.
National Airlines (5th) (National Air Cargo) (Orlando) has issued this statement concerning the crash of flight NCR 102 at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan on April 29.ย Flight NCR 102ย was a cargo flight operated byย National Airlinesย betweenย Bagramย andย Al Maktoum Airportย inย Dubai. As we previously reported, the pictured former Air Franceย Boeing 747-428 BCF N949CA (msn 35630)ย crashed on takeoff from Bagram, tragically killing all seven crew members on board. Media speculation has arisen because of the dramatic video (below) by Live Leak which shows the Jumbo Jet diving into the ground on takeoff.
“National Air Cargo will not speculate as to the cause of the accident involving National Flight NCR 102. With our full cooperation, an investigation by appropriate authorities is under way, and we encourage everyone to join us in respecting that process and allowing it to take its appropriate course.
Here are some facts regarding the aircraft and its movements prior to the accident:
National Flight NCR 102 was en route to Dubai from Camp Bastian and had stopped to refuel at Bagram Air Base.
The cargo contained within the aircraft was properly loaded and secured, and had passed all necessary inspections prior to departing Camp Bastian.
The aircraft landed safely and uneventfully in Bagram.
No additional cargo or personnel was added during the stop in Bagram, and the aircraft’s cargo was again inspected prior to departure.
National Airlines lost seven colleagues on April 29, 2013 in the crash at Bagram Air Base.ย All seven were dedicated aviation professionals and served National and our country well.ย The flight, NCR 102, was carrying military vehicles out of Afghanistan.ย The crewmembers on NCR 102 were Brad Hasler, Pilot in Command, Trenton MI; Jeremy Lipka, Pilot in Command, Brooklyn MI; Jamie Brokaw, First Officer, Monroe MI; Rinku Summan, First Officer, Canton MI; Michael Sheets, Loadmaster, Ypsilanti MI; Timothy Garrett, Maintenance, Louisville KY; Gary Stockdale, Maintenance, Romulus MI.”

Lion Air‘s (Jakarta) flight from Bandung to Bali ย went into the water while landing at Bali today and broke into two sections. The 101 passengers and seven crew members were able to safely evacuate the aircraft. There were reports of 53 people with minor injuries.
The aircraft involved is this brand new Boeing 737-8GP PK-LKS (msn 38728) (below) which arrived at Lion Air on March 20, 2013 after a short stint with subsidiary Malindo Air.
A local report by the Jakarta Post quotes a Lion Air official stating the aircraft had not yet touched the runway before it hit the water implying the aircraft crashed short of the runway and was not an overrun of the runway as most media accounts claimed.

Follow-Up: Investigators are now looking at wind shear. The pilot reported losing control of the aircraft on its final approach according to this report by Reuters.
SCAT Airlines’ (SCAT Air Company) (Shymkent) Canadair CRJ200 (CL-600-2B19) UP-CJ006 (msn 7413) crashed today while on approach to Almaty, Kazakhstan. The regional jet was operating flight DV 760 from Kokshetau to Almaty with 15 passengers and five crew members. The aircraft was attempting a landing in fog and crashed in swampy terrain.

Air France‘s (Paris) tragic flight AF 447 will soon be put to rest but the safety implications are bound to last longer. The final French accident report has been issued blaming pilot error, defective pitot sensors, inadequate training and insufficient oversight spreading the blame to several entities. 228 people were killed on June 1, 2009 when the pictured Airbus A330-203 registered as F-GZCP plunged into the Atlantic Ocean.
Sukhoi Superjet 100-95 registered as RA-97004 (msn 95004) was found today in wreckage, strewn on the side of the dormant Mount Salak volcano near Jakarta, Indonesia. The Superjet had departed from Jakarta (Halim Perdanakusuma Airport) on a demonstration flight for Sky Aviation with 42 passengers and eight crew members on board. All are feared to have died in the crash (some reports differ on the number of people on board).
Sky Aviation of Indonesia signed a contract in August 2011 to acquire 12 of the Sukhoi Superjet 100s.

Aerocaribbean (Havana) flight 7L 883 was en route from Santiago (Cuba) to Havanaย when the crew reported an emergency at 5:42 p.m. (1742) local time Thursday (November 4). The ATR 72-200 crashed near the village of Guasimal in Santi Spiritus province. The flight was carrying 61 passengers and a crew of seven. All died in the crash.
Aerocaribbeanย was established in 1982ย as Empresa Aero and commenced operations on December 2, 1982. The airline was established by the Cuban government to supplement Cubana. It is wholly owned by the government.
