Thai Airways International (Bangkok) is currently now planning to retire its last Airbus A300-600 on July 31, 2014 (moved up from October 25, 2014) per Airline Route. The airline is operating the type of flights from the Bangkok hub to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen and Phuket.

Finnair (Helsinki) will increase its number of flights to Thailand for next winter.ย Fromย December 30, 2014 to March 27, 2015ย Finnair will supplement its double-daily winter service to Bangkok with three additional frequencies per week. The extra flights bring the number of Finnairโs peak-season weekly Bangkok services to 17, the most frequencies of any European carrier.
The additional flights are scheduled to departย on Tuesday,ย Thursdayย andย Saturdayย evenings. Flight AY 091 departs Helsinki Airport (HEL) atย 8:15 P.M. (2015) for arrival at Bangkokโs Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) atย 11:00 A.M. (1100) the next day. Flight AY 092 leaves Bangkok on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays atย 12:45 P.M. (1245) for arrival in Helsinki atย 6:55 P.M. (1855). The new evening frequencies, operated with Airbus A340 aircraft in a two-class Business and Economy configuration, offer excellent connections with other cities in Finland, Scandinavia, France and Germany. Together with the daily Bangkok flights AY 089 (departure atย 4:40 PM) and AY 095 (6:30 PM), the three extra flights constitute an intensive traffic program giving passengers a wide range of choices and increased connectivity throughout Finnairโs network.

Bangkok Airways (Bangkok Air) (Bangkok) and ATR today announced a contract for the sale of six firm ATR 72-600 aircraft and two options. Bangkok Airways has been operating ATR aircraft for two decades and currently operates a fleet of eight ATR 72-500s. The first new ATR 72-600s will be delivered later this year, allowing Bangkok Airways to start renewing its fleet.

Bangkok Air:ย
Nok Airlines Public Company Limited (Nok Air) (Bangkok) and Boeing (Chicago and Seattle) have announced from the Singapore Airshow a commitment to order eight Next-Generation 737-800s and seven 737 MAX 8s. The commitment, valued atย $1.45 billionย at list prices, will establish Nok Air as the first airline inย Thailandย to operate the 737 MAX.
Boeing will work with theย Bangkok-based airline to finalize the details of the agreement, at which time the order will be posted to theย Boeing Orders & Deliveriesย website. Whileย Nok Airย currently operates a fleet of 14 Next-Generation 737s, this will mark the airline’s first direct order with Boeing.

Ukraine International Airlines (Kiev) despite the current political turmoil in the Ukraine, will launch its first everย nonstop service from Kiev (Boryspil International airport) to New York (John Kennedy International Airport) on April 25, 2014. Starting June 23, 2014, Kiev โ New York nonstop scheduled flights will be operated daily.

Boeing (Chicago), Etihad Airways (Abu Dhabi), Takreer, Total and the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology today announced they will collaborate on a new initiative to support a sustainable aviation biofuel industry in theย United Arab Emirates.
BIOjet Abu Dhabi: Flight Path to Sustainability will engage a broad range of stakeholders to develop a comprehensive framework for a U.A.E. biofuel supply chain. This initiative will focus on research and development and investments in feedstock production and refining capability in the U.A.E. and globally.
Etihad Airways showed the promise of this homegrown effort yesterday with a 45-minute demonstration flight in a Boeing 777 powered in part by U.A.E.-produced sustainable aviation biofuel. The biofuel was partially converted from plants by Total and refined into jet fuel by Takreer, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (ADNOC). U.A.E. is now among a handful of countries that have produced and flown on their own aviation biofuel, which emits at least 50 percent less carbon dioxide than fossil fuel over its lifecycle.
Boeing and Etihad Airways are also among the founding partners of the Sustainable Bioenergy Research Consortium, hosted by the Masdar Institute inย Abu Dhabi. The consortium has been researching and developing salt-tolerant plants that would be raw material for the same refining processes used to produce renewable fuel for the Etihad Airways flight.
The flight and BIOjet Abu Dhabi announcement lead into Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and the World Future Energy Summit. These activities and Masdar Institute’s aviation biofuel research are aligned with the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, which seeks to develop sustainable energy sources to diversify the U.A.E. economy and increase workforce opportunities for Emiratis.
Etihad Airways is an airline industry leader in supporting the development of lower-carbon renewable fuels. A member of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Users Group (SAFUG), the airline operated the Gulf region’s first biofuel flight inย January 2011ย with a Boeing 777 delivery fromย Seattleย toย Abu Dhabiย powered by a blend of petroleum-based and certified plant oil-based jet fuel.
Boeing collaborates with airlines, research institutions, governments and other stakeholders to develop sustainable biofuel supply chains around the world, includingย the United States,ย Middle East,ย China,Brazil,ย Europeย andย Australia.

JAL-Japan Airlines (Tokyo) has grounded a Boeing 787-8 (JA834J) at Narita International Airport (NRT) near Tokyo today after white smoke was observed venting from the main battery yesterday afternoon (January 14). The battery showed signs of melting. The event happened during normal maintenance when the aircraft was on the ground.
JAL now operates 13 Boeing 787-8s.

Norwegian Air Shuttle (Norwegian Long Haul) (Oslo) is doing well with its new Long Haul Boeing 787 flights across the Atlantic Ocean despite the well-publicized early problems with the new type. The airline is now selling out these flights and has ordered more 787s to expand its long range flights according to this article by Bloomberg Businessweek.

Japan Airlines-JAL (Tokyo) has announced it will begin Boeing 787 operations on its daily nonstop service between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) andย Tokyo’sย Narita Airport (NRT) beginning on Monday, February 3, 2014. This inaugural flight will mark the first-ever scheduled arrival of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner to YVR.
JAL will introduce the 787-8 Dreamliner to the YVR-NRT route using a phased approach, beginning with one weekly flight on Mondays and extending to its daily flights byย March 2014.

Tigerair (formerly Tiger Airways) (Singapore) has issued this statement with Cebu Pacific Air (Manila):
Tigerair and Cebu Pacific Air, the largest budget carriers based in Singapore and the Philippines respectively, have announced plans to enter into a strategic alliance. Both parties will collaborate commercially and operationally on international and domestic air routes from the Philippines, thereby creating the biggest network of flights to the region.
The alliance will enable both parties to leverage their respective strengths and harness synergies to enhance their network coverage, flight frequencies and customer service, and jointly market their routes using interline arrangement.
Subject to regulatory approval, the interline partners will jointly operate common routes between Singapore and the Philippines. As part of the strategic alliance, Tigerair will divest its 40% stake in Tigerair Philippines to Cebu Pacific.
Group CEO of Tigerair Mr Koay Peng Yen said, โTigerair and Cebu Pacific share a vision for both airlines to join forces and create the largest budget airline network between Asia and the Philippines.
