Norwegian launches its U.S. flights to Martinique and Guadeloupe

Norwegian Air Shuttle’s (Norwegian.com) (Oslo) inaugural flight from Boston to the French Caribbean island of Martinique will take off today, while the first flights from New York and Baltimore/Washington to Martinique and Guadeloupe also departing this week.

Norwegian will be the only airline to offer free WiFi and live TV service between the U.S. and Caribbean using its Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which already operate on 29 routes from the UK to Europe.

In other news, Norwegian retired its last Boeing 737-300 Classic in November.

Republic Airways Holdings disputes Delta’s complaint

Republic Airways Holdings (Shuttle America) (Indianapolis) has issued this statement disputing a reported lawsuit by Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) claiming the carrier failed to fly its full contracted schedule according to the Indianapolis Business Journal:

Republic Airways Holdings Inc. has been made aware of a complaint filed by Delta. The Company has not been served and has not received the full complaint and therefore cannot comment further on the matter at this time. Republic can confirm that the Company is not in breach of any of its capacity purchase agreements with any of its mainline partners, including both Delta Connection Agreements.

SAS is coming to Boston from Copenhagen with a PrivatAir Boeing 737-700

Scandinavian Airlines-SAS (Stockholm) is launching yet another year round service between the US and Scandinavia. From March 29, 2016, SAS will operate daily nonstop flights between Copenhagen and Boston. As such, SAS will be the first carrier to fly directly to Boston from Scandinavia.

SAS is now launching a year round nonstop daily service from Copenhagen to Boston. In 2016, SAS will offer approx 500 flights between Boston and Copenhagen and 6,600 flights between Scandinavia and the US – a total of 1.6 million seats between USA and Scandinavia.

The route will be operated by an 86 seat Boeing 737-700 BBJ (Boeing Business Jet).

The route opens on March 29, 2016 and will be operated by PrivatAir with a Boeing 737 configured with 20 Business and 66 Go seats. Departure and arrival times are scheduled to connect with flights to and from Copenhagen to major airports in Scandinavia and Northern Europe.

SAS currently offers long haul flights from Scandinavian to New York, Washington DC, Chicago and San Francisco and recently launched new direct routes to the US in 2016: From Stockholm to Los Angeles, from Oslo to Miami and from Copenhagen to Miami.

JetBlue Airways to add Nashville on May 5, 2016

JetBlue Airways (New York) has announced service to Nashville International Airport (BNA) will begin on May 5, 2016. The airline will operate two daily nonstop roundtrips between Nashville and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and one daily roundtrip between Nashville and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

JetBlue announced it was adding Nashville to its growing list of destinations in July as part of its commitment to growth in both Boston and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood. In Boston JetBlue will operate more than 130 daily flights and nearly 100 daily flights in Fort Lauderdale this year.

All Nashville routes will be operated on Airbus A320 aircraft.

WestJet announces new winter routes to Florida, Mexico and Costa Rica, WestJet Encore to fly to Boston

WestJet (Calgary) has announced it is launching new nonstop service to Florida, Mexico and Costa Rica, as well as adding more than 85 flights across its growing domestic and international network as part of its winter 2015-2016 flight schedule. WestJet’s regional airline, WestJet Encore (Calgary), will also begin service three times a day to Boston, its first U.S. destination.

WestJet will launch new nonstop service between Toronto (Pearson) and West Palm Beach and Toronto (Pearson) and Sarasota/Bradenton, as well as between Toronto (Pearson) and Boston and Halifax and Boston.

The airline will also introduce new service to Mexico between Toronto (Pearson) and Huatulco, Toronto (Pearson) and Merida, and Toronto (Pearson) and Cabo San Lucas, as well as additional service to Costa Rica between Toronto (Pearson) and San Jose (SJO). WestJet already serves Liberia.

Guests flying from the Region of Waterloo International Airport and Charlottetown Airport will see new weekly nonstop flights to Orlando.

WestJet is also increasing service from a number of destinations within Central and Eastern Canada including Toronto (Pearson), Halifax, St. John’s, Deer Lake and Charlottetown, as well as from Toronto (Pearson) to Liberia, Turks and Caicos, Puerto Plata and Punta Cana.

The airline will also add new nonstop flights between Calgary and Florida, Costa Rica and Mexico, and between Vancouver and Orlando.

Delta to extend the seasonal Boston-Paris (CDG) route to year-round service

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) will extend its seasonal daily nonstop service between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Boston Logan International Airport to a year-round operation, beginning on October 25.

The route will be operated in conjunction with joint venture partner Air France (Paris) and will become Delta’s 10th U.S. gateway offered year-round from Paris. Delta will operate the service on a Boeing 757-200 aircraft.

Norwegian to launch London Gatwick – Boston service, expands in Spain

Norwegian Air Shuttle (Norwegian Long Haul) (Oslo) has announced it will launch four weekly flights from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to London’s Gatwick Airport (LGW) in May 2016.

Last month, Norwegian announced flights from Boston to Guadeloupe and Martinique, which will commence on December 3, 2015, with twice weekly service to both destinations.

Flights between Boston and London will be served by the new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The airline will start taking delivery of the new Dreamliners in 2016, with 35 seats in Premium and 309 seats in Economy.

Norwegian currently offers 25 nonstop routes from the U.S. to London and Scandinavia with its current fleet of Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners (above), providing more European routes than any other European airline.

Service from Las Vegas will commence on October 31, 2015; service from San Juan, Puerto Rico, will commence on November 1, 2015; and service from St. Croix, U.S. V.I., will commence on November 5, 2015.

Additionally, Norwegian will begin service from Boston, Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and New York/JFK to Guadeloupe Islands’ Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport(PTP) and to Martinique Aimé Césaire International Airport (FDF) on December 3, 2015.

In other news, Norwegian’s international expansion continues. For the first time the company launches domestic flights in Spain from the Spanish major cities of Madrid, Barcelona and Malaga to the Canary Islands.

From October Norwegian will offer seven Spanish domestic routes between the mainland and Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Fuerteventura for a total of 56 flights a week.

From Madrid, Norwegian will fly daily Boeing 737-800 flights to Gran Canaria and Tenerife. From Barcelona it will operate several flights a week to Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Fuerteventura. From Malaga it will fly two flights a week to Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Norwegian will offer 56 flights a week between the mainland and the Canary Islands starting on October 25.

Norwegian to fly from Boston, Baltimore/Washington and New York to Guadeloupe and Martinique this winter

Norwegian Air Shuttle (Norwegian.com) (Oslo) continues its expansion, this time from an un expected area for next winter.

During the upcoming winter season Norwegian will fly from Boston, Baltimore/Washington and New York (JFK) to the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. Norwegian will offer 31 nonstop routes from the US.

Norwegian already offer nonstop flights from the Scandinavian capitals and London (Gatwick) to the Caribbean.

Norwegian will operate its Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the routes. According to the airline, “Norwegian thereby becomes the only airline that offers free WiFi between the US and the Caribbean”.

According to the airline; “Norwegian pilots and cabin staff in Europe will now have the opportunity to work on the company’s temporary bases in Guadeloupe and Martinique in the winter months. Recruitment of pilots and cabin crew to bases in the Caribbean begin immediately. Captains, first officers and cabin crew from Norwegian’s European operations (the Nordic countries, the UK and Spain) with the ability to break abroad for four months are encouraged to apply.”

Norwegian’s new routes between the US and the Caribbean starts in early December, with three flights a week from New York (JFK) to both Guadeloupe Pointe-a-Pitre Airport (PTP) and Martinique Aimé Césaire International Airport (FDF).

Norwegian will fly twice a week from both the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Guadeloupe and Martinique.

Martinique and Guadeloupe are both part of France. Both islands are French territory and therefore is considered part of the EU.

JetBlue to introduce Mint service at Boston, will also add Boston-Nashville

JetBlue Airways (New York), already the largest airline in Boston, has announced plans to enhance service at Logan International Airport.

As part of the expansion, JetBlue will introduce Mint service to San Francisco and Los Angeles. JetBlue will also add Nashville as its 60th nonstop destination from Boston and will increase service frequency on more than a dozen existing routes to U.S. and Caribbean destinations.

Mint service will take off between Boston and San Francisco beginning in March 2016 with up to three daily roundtrips. Mint service to Los Angeles is set to begin in fall 2016 with up to three daily roundtrips.

Additionally, JetBlue will offer Mint seasonal service to the Caribbean beginning in March 2016 with a weekly Saturday roundtrip between Boston and Barbados, one of the airline’s most luxurious leisure destinations.

All customers traveling on the additional flights will benefit from JetBlue’s new Airbus A321 aircraft (above).

JetBlue also announced its intent to serve Nashville International Airport (BNA) from Boston with two daily roundtrips.

JetBlue also plans to launch daily nonstop service from Nashville to its Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood focus city. Service will begin in spring 2016.

All flights to Nashville will be operated on JetBlue’s Airbus A320 aircraft.

In addition, JetBlue will soon offer even more flights from Boston to 12 cities in its route network.

In January 2016, JetBlue will offer an average of 118 daily departures in its winter schedule with even more frequencies in the peak travel season – up to 140 daily departures in summer 2016. This is up from 54 average daily departures in 2008 when the airline began to significantly grow its presence in Boston.

The increase comes from a series of added flights on existing routes. Many of the flight frequency additions will be to JetBlue’s Florida and Caribbean focus cities and to other popular destinations in these regions. Additional flights are being added to the following destinations in the U.S. JetBlue network:

Orlando, Ft, Lauderdale, Tampa, San Juan, Raleigh/Durham, New York (JFK) and Cleveland

Additional weekend flights between Boston and:

JetBlue has helped connect more international carriers in Boston through agreements with 15 carriers. El Al to Tel Aviv and Hainan Airlines to Shanghai are two of the newest routes. Emirates also plans to introduce a second daily flight to Dubai this fall.

Over the last three years JetBlue has attracted five new international partners to Boston including El Al, Emirates, Hainan Airlines, Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines.

JetBlue’s impressive list of airline partnerships grew from its very first agreement with Massachusetts-based Cape Air in 2007. Cape Air is one of the largest independent regional carriers in the U.S. and enhances the JetBlue network with easy connections from San Juan and Boston to destinations in Cape Cod and the Caribbean.

Hainan Airlines to launch three U.S.-China routes this month

Hainan Airlines (Haikou and Beijing) today launched the first of three new nonstop routes between the U.S. and Mainland China, part of the airline’s large-scale expansion of its service in North America. Hainan is inaugurating service between San Jose, California (Silicon Valley) (SJC) and Beijing on June 15, between Boston’s Logan International Airport and Shanghai (Pudong) on June 20, and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Shanghai-Pudong on June 22.

The Silicon Valley and Boston routes will be flown by Boeing 787 Dreamliners, making Hainan the airline with the most nonstop 787 Dreamliner routes between China and North America. Hainan currently offers daily nonstop service between Beijing and Seattle/Tacoma, Boston and Chicago (O’Hare). Hainan first launched U.S. service in 2008 with nonstop flights between Seattle/Tacoma and Beijing.
