American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) has open reservations for six new routes to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and South America starting in early June according to Airline Route. The company will start the following new routes heading south:
Dallas/Fort Worth – Grand Cayman (weekly, starting on June 6, 737-800)
Dallas/Fort Worth – Managua (weekly, June 6, A319)
Los Angeles – Belize City (twice weekly, June 6, 737-800)
Los Angeles – Guadalajara (daily, June 4, A319)

EasyJet (easyJet.com) (London-Luton) today (February 3) unveiled its new livery on the pictured Airbus A319-111 G-EZDE (msn 3426). The airline issued this statement:
EasyJet, the UKโs largest airline, has launched a new aircraft livery – the first change to the look of the airlineโs iconic white and orange fleet since easyJet.com replaced the call center number on the fuselage in 1998.
There are two main design changes. EasyJet’s trademark orange has been extended from the tail fin on to the fuselage to create a larger space for the easyJet logo which is 15% bigger than before.
Secondly, an orange stripe reflecting the design language of easyJet’s advertising has been introduced on to the fuselage. This enables the easyJet logo to be reversed out of that color – in accordance with brand guidelines – and to give the plane a sleek, more modern look.โ Finally, the “.com” has been dropped.
The airline currently has a fleet of 226 aircraft โ a mixture of Airbus A319s and A320s. The new livery will feature on all new easyJet aircraft deliveries from April 2015. EasyJet has 197 Airbus A320 aircraft on order, the majority of which will replace older A319 aircraft currently in the fleet.
In addition, younger planes in easyJet’s fleet will have the new livery applied when they โare scheduled to be repainted, typically every six years. Taken together this means 29 aircraft will be flying with the new look by the end of 2015 and 50% of the fleet will sport the new livery by the end of 2017.
A specialist team is needed to repaint an aircraft which takes around seven days on average.
During easyJetโs 19 year history there have been only two aircraft styles. The first, seen in 1995 on easyJetโs first aircraft, was different to anything else flying as it advertised the booking number along the fuselage in giant lettering. The second, which entered service in 1998, displayed easyJet.com across the fuselage which reflected the important move the airline made to online booking.

VECA Airlines (San Salvador) is a new airline in El Salvador. The new airline commenced scheduled passenger operations on January 23 with two 144-seat Airbus A319s (N1235V and N1821V) leased from AerCap. The first route was from San Salvador to Guatemala City according to ch-aviation.
VECA Airlines is also planning to expand to San Jose and Panama City.

The new airline is owned by Sociedad Hasgar S.A. de C.V. and is El Salvador’s new flag carrier established on March 28, 2014. The hub is located in San Salvador at Monseรฑor รscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport. The new airline was previously planning to start operations on November 28, 2014.

Etihad Airways (Abu Dhabi) has announced its passenger numbers for 2014. The airline issued this statement and report card:
Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, carried a record number of passengers and cargo in 2014, marking its strongest operational performance to date.
Almost 14.8 million passengers flew with Etihad Airways last year, a significant increase of 23 percent over 2013 levels. The growth in passenger demand continued to outstrip the airline’s capacity increase, highlighting the strength of its long-term growth strategy.
In total, Etihad Airways carried more than 74 percent of the 19.9 million passengers who travelled through Abu Dhabi International Airport in 2014. With the addition of the airline’s equity partners that operate flights into the UAE capital, the combined total rises to a significant 82 per cent of passenger traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Etihad Airways introduced 10 additional destinations to its global route network in 2014, with new services launched to Medina, Jaipur, Los Angeles and Zurich in the first half of the year, and Perth, Rome, Yerevan, Phuket, San Francisco and Dallas/Fort Worth in the second half of the year. In addition, frequencies were increased on 23 existing routes across the world in 2014.
Building on its organic growth, the airline also expanded its codeshare and equity partnerships last year. These partnerships delivered over 3.5 million passengers onto Etihad Airways flights, an increase of 40 per cent over the 2.5 million passengers in 2013.
New codeshare agreements were launched with Air Europa, jetBlue, Philippine Airlines, GOL, SAS, Hong Kong Airlines and Aerolineas Argentinas, while Etihad Airways’ existing codeshares with South African Airways, Alitalia and Jet Airways were significantly expanded.
In August 2014, the airline announced a โฌ560 million investment in the new Alitalia to acquire a 49 percent shareholding in the carrier, a 75 per cent interest in Alitalia Loyalty, which operates the MilleMiglia frequent flier program, and five pairs of slots at London’s Heathrow Airport, which will be leased back to Alitalia. The transaction received European Commission merger clearance in November 2014 and became effective on 31 December 2014.
Alitalia is the latest addition to Etihad Airways’ equity partners network, which also includes airberlin, Air Serbia, Air Seychelles, Aer Lingus, Jet Airways and Virgin Australia. An investment is being formalised in Swiss-based Etihad Regional, operated by Darwin Airline.
In addition, Etihad Airways Partners was unveiled last year to offer passengers more choice through improved networks and schedules, plus enhanced frequent flyer benefits. The partnership also builds greater synergies for participating airlines, which currently include airberlin, Air Serbia, Air Seychelles, Etihad Airways, Etihad Regional, Jet Airways and NIKI.
Etihad Airways also reported strong cargo growth for 2014, with 568,648 tons of freight and mail flown in total, a 17 per cent increase year-on-year. The airline accounted for 89.6 per cent of cargo imports, exports and transfers at Abu Dhabi airport last year.
Over the course of last year, Etihad Cargo enhanced its global reach by offering bellyhold capacity on Etihad Airways’ 10 new passenger destinations and expanding its freighter services to new markets such as Dar es Salaam, Entebbe, Hanoi and Moscow. A freighter service was also launched from Milan to Bogotรก and from Bogotรก to Amsterdam, following an agreement with Avianca Cargo, the cargo division of Latin American carrier Avianca.
Etihad Airways’ fleet consisted of 110 aircraft at the end of 2014 (+24 per cent year-on-year), with an average age of 5.5 years. The airline took delivery of its first Airbus A380 and Boeing 787-9 in December, with both state-of-the-art aircraft offering new standards in cabin interiors, together with considerable fuel efficiency and environmental improvements.
An additional nine Airbus aircraft (two A330-200s, three A321s, three A320s and one A330-200F) and six Boeing aircraft (one 777-300 ER, five 777-200 LRs) were received in 2014, while further leased capacity was also added to enhance the airline’s rapid growth.

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) will add six new routes throughout Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America, further strengthening its position in these key markets. New service to Barranquilla, Colombia (BAQ), will add a new destination to the airline’s global network and customers will have increased options when traveling throughout the region. Expanded service includes new flights to Belize City, Belize (BZE); Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (GCM); Guadalajara, Mexico (GDL); Managua, Nicaragua (MGA); and Monterrey, Mexico (MTY).

American is taking delivery of more than 100 new aircraft this year, giving it the youngest fleet of any U.S.-based network carrier. Orders include the Airbus A320 and A320neo family, A350-900s, Boeing 737 MAX, 777-300ERs and 787s, which will make American’s fleet even younger, more modern and fuel efficient.

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) (Baku) has announced it is coming to Berlin. The airline will start twice-weekly Airbus A319 flights from Baku to Berlin (Tegel) on May 2.
The airline issued this statement:
The national carrier of Azerbaijan – AZAL – Azerbaijan Airlines announces the start of scheduled flights from Baku to Berlin commencing on May 2, 2015 and the opening of the ticket sales for this route from January 21. Flights to Tegel Airport (TXL) of the capital city of Germany will run twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays with departure from Baku at 07.25 and arriving to Berlin at 09.25 local time. The return flights from Berlin will be operated at 10.45 and coming to the capital of Azerbaijan at 18.40 at the same days of the week.

Holiday Jet (Zurich) is the name of the new joint venture of Germania (Berlin) and tour operator Hotelplan. In August 2014 Germania established a Swiss affiliate airline based in Zurich. In September 2014, Germania and Hotelplan joined forces to start operations with two 150-seat Airbus A319s starting in March 2015. The new airline applied for its own Swiss Air Operators Certificate (AOC) in September 2014.
Operations are scheduled to start on March 26.
According to the published schedules on their website, Germania will operate the Airbus A319s for HolidayJet from Zurich to Antalya (staring on March 26), Corfu (June 2), Crete (May 3), Dalaman (May 22), Djerba (March 30), Hurghada (March 26), Kos (May 9), Mykonos (May 22), Rhodes (May 3), Santorini (May 22), Sharm el-Sheikh (March 30), Zakinthos (June 2), Zypern (March 28).

Lufthansa Group (Frankfurt) has issued this statement:
The Lufthansa Group has made a successful start to the new year with the transfer of the DรผsseldorfโZurich route from Lufthansa to Germanwings (2nd) (Cologne/Bonn) today (January 8, 2015). One of the biggest structural projects ever undertaken by the company has thus been successfully completed on time.
The concept of the new Germanwings was presented in December 2012, followed by the market launch on July 1, 2013.
The transfer of the DรผsseldorfโZurich route means that the decision to operate all domestic and European routes under Germanwings, apart from at the Frankfurt and Munich hubs, has now been fully implemented as scheduled.
In all, Germanwings has taken over 115 routes from Lufthansa in recent months, with the biggest number of routes (52) at Dรผsseldorf Airport.
The new Germanwings service between Dรผsseldorf and Zurich will comprise 24 flights per week, making it one of the most high-volume routes from the North Rhine-Westphalian capital. The early morning flight will depart from Dรผsseldorf at 7.00 a.m. In addition to this, there will be a midday flight at 1.30 p.m., an afternoon flight at 5.05 p.m. and an evening service at 6.55 p.m.

Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) is addingย more flights to Boston Logan Airport, with new daily nonstopย service from Boston to Las Vegas, and seasonal service from Boston toย Detroit and Cleveland, beginning in April 2015.
With these additional routes Spirit Airlines will now operate nonstopย flights from Boston to ten cities. Current routes include: Atlanticย City, Chicago (O’Hare), Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood,ย Fort Myers, Myrtle Beach, and West Palm Beach. The daily service to Lasย Vegas and the seasonal service to Detroit and Cleveland will begin onย April 16, 2015.
