Emirates (Dubai) will begin Airbus A380 service on the Dubai-Frankfurt route on September 1 per Airline Route.
In other news,ย Emirates will launch its sixth daily service to Karachi from August 1.ย Emirates has served Karachi since it was founded in 1985, and in the past decade alone has transported over six million passengers on the route. Karachi is the capital of the province of Sindh, and the largest city in Pakistan. Located on the coast of the Arabian Sea, north-west of the Indus River Delta, this metropolis is Pakistanโs cultural, economic, educational and political hub, as well as the countryโs largest port.
The additional service will be operated by an Emirates Airbus A330-200 in a two class configuration, offering passengers a choice of its renowned Business Class and Economy Class product, as well as the being able to transport an additional 17 tons of cargo.

Arik Air (Arik Wings of Nigeria) (Lagos) will spread its wings again on July 28 when it launches a new route from Lagos and Abuja to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The new extension will be operated five days a week with its Airbus A330-200s.

Emirates (Dubai) will expand its Airbus A380 network to 28 destinations, when it launches a daily A380 service to Mumbai International Airport on July 21.
Flights EK 500 and EK 501 between Dubai and Mumbai will be up-scaled to a three-class A380 aircraft, representing with a capacity increase of 2,127 seats per week in each direction.

Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates (Dubai), has added Mexico City and Atlanta to its cargo flight schedule, further expanding its freighter network to more than 50 destinations around the world.
The once-a-week service to Mexico City starts in Dubai with a stop en route to Frankfurt, while on the way back the flight makes a scheduled stop in Houston and Copenhagen before heading back to Dubai. The freighter service to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport from Dubai, which is also a weekly service, has a scheduled stop in Frankfurt and on the return leg stops at Copenhagen. This multi-stop service provides customers with the additional benefit to move cargo between these cities.
On both routes Emirates SkyCargo uses its Boeing 777 Freighter aircraft, which is capable of carrying 103 tonnes of cargo, and with its main deck being the widest of any freighter aircraft, itโs able to uplift outsized cargo and carry larger consignments.
Emirates SkyCargo has a fleet of 12 freighters, 10 Boeing 777 Fs and two Boeing 747-400 ERFs, which from 1 May 2014 started operating from its new cargo terminal at Dubai World Centralโs Al Maktoum International Airport.

Emirates Airline (Dubai) will continue to serve all of its worldwide destinations during the 80-day period of runway upgrading works at Dubai International Airport (DXB) starting on May 1. However, it has had to reduce flights to over 40 destinations, and change timings on some of its flights.
These changes will not impact customers booked to fly between May and July, as the flight schedules have been planned and implemented months ahead of time. Customers or travel agents searching for flight options on Emirates will only see those flights that are available.

โAs the biggest operator at Dubai International accounting for about 50% of traffic, of course we have had to take the biggest hit in reducing flights. There will be an impact on our revenues to the tune of approximately AED 1 billion. However, we understand the need for this upgrading work to be done, and we support it wholeheartedly. It will add much-needed capacity to the airport, and having world-class infrastructure ultimately means a better experience for customers. So we have to take the long-term view and manage the short term pain,โ he added.
Emirates will ground 20 aircraft in May, 22 in June, and 22 in July, as Dubai Airports launches a comprehensive runway upgrade project which will see both runways at Dubai International close alternatively for resurfacing and other enhancement works.
During this time, Emirates has plans for its own upgrading projects, taking advantage of its โgrounded fleetโ to perform engineering maintenance and onboard enhancements, ensuring its award-winning fleet operates at top form. These works include phased upgrades to its GCS (Global Communications Suite), an initiative that requires approximately 2,200 man hours of mechanical and avionic work per aircraft. The parked aircraft also provides operational flexibility for an ongoing fleet-wide inflight entertainment system and cabin maintenance improvement campaign. In addition, the Emirates Engineering team will carry out its first-ever landing gear change to a Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft, the start of a program which will eventually involve over 70 other Boeing 777s. The landing gear change work occurs once every 10 years in the aircraftโs lifespan.
All Emirates passenger flights will continue to operate from Dubai International Airport (DXB) during the runway upgrading period from ย May 1 through July 20, while its freighter operations will move to Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central (DWC) on May 1 as planned.

Ethiopian Airlines (Addis Ababa) has announced the commencement of four weekly flights to Kano, Nigeria, starting on May 24, 2014.
The flights to Kano will be Ethiopian fourth destination in Nigeria, in addition to Lagos, Abuja and Enugu.
