AeroMexico restores the Monterrey-Houston route on November 3

AeroMexico (Mexico City) is resuming two routes from Monterrey on November 3; to both Torreon and Houston. The Monterrey-Houston route was last operated in January 2011 per Airline Route.

In other news, AeroMexico previously announced a fourth weekly flight between Merida and Miami effective on November 8. This new service will operate on Saturdays and, as the current three frequencies, will be operated with a 99-seat Embraer 190.

SAS arrives in Houston from Stavanger, Norway

Scandinavian Airlines-SAS (Stockholm) is now connecting Houston, Texas, with Stavanger in Norway through six days a week nonstop air service. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen the economic and cultural ties that already exist within the oil and gas industry in the regions. The route will be operated by a business version of the Boeing 737-700 aircraft and will have a SAS Long Haul Business Class concept on board with just 44 comfortable business seats, in-flight entertainment and full-service meals.

Departures from Stavanger will be daily, except Tuesdays, at 4:00 pm arriving in Houston (Bush Intercontinental) at 7:40 pm (1940) the same day. SAS will depart from Houston to Stavanger daily except Tuesdays at 9:35 pm (2135) arriving the next day in Stavanger at 2.20 pm (1440). SAS will be the only airline with nonstop service between Scandinavia and Houston.

In addition to the Houston-Stavanger route, SAS also operates nonstop service from Newark to Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm, from Chicago (O’Hare) to Copenhagen and Stockholm, and from Washington, D.C. and San Francisco to Copenhagen.

SAS:

Emirates to bring the Airbus A380 to both Houston and San Francisco starting in December

Emirates (Dubai) is adding passenger and cargo capacity in San Francisco and Houston on December 1 and 3, 2014 respectively when it switches from operating the routes with a Boeing 777-300 ER to its double-decker Airbus A380.

The A380 will offer an additional 135 seats to San Francisco and 137 to Houston, representing a 38 percent increase in overall passenger capacity, and 80 percent more seats across the premium cabins. In addition to offering a choice of 14 First Class Private Suites and 76 lie-flat Business Class seats, the aircraft offers 399 spacious Economy Class seats to San Francisco and 401 to Houston.

The Emirates service from San Francisco operates daily as flight EK 226, departing San Francisco at 3:30 PM (1530) and arriving in Dubai the following day at 7:25 PM (1925). Flight EK 225 departs Dubai at 8:50 AM (0850) and arrives at San Francisco International Airport at 12:50 PM (1250) the same day.

Emirates’ daily flight EK 211 to Houston departs Dubai at 9:30 AM (0930) and arrives at 4:05 PM (1605). The return flight, EK 212, takes off from George Bush Intercontinental Airport at 6:25 PM (1825) and lands in Dubai at 7:05 PM (1905) the next day.

San Francisco and Houston will be Emirates’ 4th and 5th U.S. gateways serviced by an A380, joining New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas/Fort Worth which is due to commence on October 1. This latest announcement means that by December, Emirates will be serving both its Texan destinations with an A380 service.

United Airlines to return to Santiago, Chile

United Airlines (Chicago) will start Houston (Bush Intercontinental)-Santiago, Chile daily service on December 7. The route will be flown with Boeing 767-300 ERs.

Additionally the company will also operate a weekly Houston (Bush)-Punta Cana route starting on December 20 with Boeing 737-800s and a weekly Chicago (O’Hare)-Belize City route also starting also on December 20 with Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

On Monday, June 16 United issued this statement:

United Airlines has announced the company will introduce service to Santiago, Chile, from its hub at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, beginning on December 7, 2014, subject to government approval.

Houston-Santiago, Chile

Flight UA 847 will depart Houston daily at 9:05 p.m. (2105) and arrive in Santiago at 9:40 a.m. (0940) the next day. Return flight UA 846 will depart Santiago daily at 10:45 p.m. (2245) and arrive in Houston at 5:40 a.m. (0540) the following day. (All times are local.)

The flights are timed to provide convenient connections from Houston to 111 airports across the United States and to more than 60 international destinations.

United will operate its Houston-Santiago service with Boeing 767-300 aircraft with a total of 214 seats – 30 flat-bed seats in United BusinessFirst and 184 seats in United Economy, including 49 extra-legroom United Economy Plus seats.

Additional New Service

United also is boosting its Central America and Caribbean connections, beginning December 20, 2014:

Houston-Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, with year-round service on Saturdays and service on Sundays during periods of expected higher demand

Chicago-Belize City, Belize, subject to government approval, with Saturday service scheduled through early May 2015

This winter, United also plans to expand its Houston-Aruba service. The airline currently offers Saturday Houston-Aruba flights that are scheduled to continue through mid-August 2014. On December 20, the company will resume Saturday service that will continue through early May 2015 and begin service on Sundays for periods of expected higher demand.

Delta to restore Atlanta-Ottawa flights on December 20

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) will restore Delta Connection service between its Atlanta hub and Ottawa, Canada on December 20, 2014. During the Christmas-New Year holiday period it will operate daily with Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft and then to weekly flights according to Airline Route.

A near miss involving two United Airbus A320s at Houston on May 9

United Airlines (Chicago) had two Airbus A320s involved in a near miss while departing from Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) on the evening of May 9. Flight UA 601 was departing from runway 9 to Vancouver, British Columbia while UA 437 was departing on runway 15L bound for Mexico City. The two A320s came within 400 feet of each other according to KHOU Channel 11 in Houston. The FAA is investigating the incident.

United to connect the oil patch of Williston, North Dakota to Houston starting on August 19

United Airlines (Chicago) will start nonstop United Express service from its Houston (Bush Intercontinental) to the oil patch area at Williston in the western part of North Dakota starting on August 19. The new route will be operated by ExpressJet Airlines (Atlanta) and was announced by Senator John Hoeven of North Dakota. ExpressJet already flies the Williston-Denver route for United Airlines (see the map below).

Additionally, United will also commence nonstop United Express service from its Denver hub to Lafayette, Indiana also starting on August 19 per Airline Route.

The carrier will start daily nonstop Houston (Bush Intercontinental)-Hartford/Springfield Embraer 175 flights starting on October 15.

Korean Air lands in Houston

Korean Air (Seoul) is now operating daily nonstop service between Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Incheon International Airport in Seoul. America’s largest Asian airline officially launched its Houston service on May 2, with the morning arrival of its Boeing 777-200 aircraft.

Nonstop flights connecting the two destinations will depart from the Terminal D facility at George Bush Intercontinental Airport every morning at 10:40 a.m. (CST Houston time), with the return flight departing Seoul at 9:10 a.m. local time at Incheon International Airport.

Korean Air, a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, already operates nonstop flights to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Sao Paulo, Toronto, Vancouver and Washington, D.C.

Spirit Airlines announces new routes from Houston and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood

Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) continues to quickly grow its network. It is the growth airline in the United States. The ultra low-fare airline has announced that it is starting new service between Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and two new cities – Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood (FLL) and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) starting on August 1, 2014.

Additionally Spirit announced that it is starting new service between Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport and three other new cities, including Atlanta (ATL) starting on August 1, 2014, and to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood (FLL) and San Diego (SAN) starting on September 3, 2014. These new routes join new service from Houston to Kansas City (MCI) that begins on August 7, 2014.

Spirit Airlines:

United Airlines launches Houston-Munich flights

United Airlines (Chicago) yesterday (April 24) launched daily nonstop service between its Houston hub at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Munich, linking the fourth-largest city in the U.S. with the capital of Bavaria.

United will operate the service with Boeing 767-400 aircraft with 242 seats – 39 in United BusinessFirst and 203 in United Economy, including 70 Economy Plus extra-legroom seats.

Flight UA 104 departs Bush Intercontinental daily at 4:10 p.m. (1610) and arrives at Munich’s Franz Joseph Strauss International Airport at 9:50 a.m. (0950) the next day. On the return, flight UA 105 will depart Munich at 9:30 a.m. (0930) and arrive in Houston at 2:20 p.m. (1420) the same day.

The new Munich flights complement the daily nonstop service between Houston and Frankfurt that both United and its joint-venture partner Lufthansa offer today.

United is the leading U.S. carrier to Germany, operating year-round nonstop flights to five German cities from hubs in Chicago, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington.
